It's amazing to me that anytime you drive by a "UAW shop" auto plant at quitting time, you see the people leaving wearing UAW jackets & hats, but not the logo of the company they work for. Their loyalty is to the union, NOT the company that actually pays them. Unions are a dinosaur that is in need of a meteorite to get rid of them.
This is NEWS, because I bet a majority of people who, either were NOT taught this, or, while in school, didn't pay attention, don't realize the beauty of the electoral college. By having such a design, this gives states with a low population, a stake in the election. Otherwise, you would only see those running for office, spending all their time in NY, Illinois, Florida, Ohio, California, Texas and a couple other states. USA, contrary to popular belief, is NOT a democracy, but a representative republic. It's more of the checks & balances that the founding fathers put in to our form of government.
I bet those rocket designers from the 50's to the early 70's are laughing their butts off. They tell them in the mid 70's, we are going to abandon a PERFECT launch vehicle, and replace it with a glider. If the shuttle had been build AS DESIGNED, it would have been much safer than strapping a couple solid rocket motors and millions of gallons of hydrogen/oxygen.
Now some 30 years after the last Saturn V launch, they are building a crew module/escape rocket that looks like a grown up version of the Apollo Command/Service module.
a "triangle shaped" reentry vehicle is a cheap, perfect design to get people into & out of space.
If they REALLY want to get into space faster, just have James T. Kirk do another time warp and bring the Enterprise back with him. Now that "transparent aluminum" is coming to reality, it's time that the warp engine come into being.
Apparently you are not old enough to remember the saccharine scare of the 70's. Diet sodas were introduced, containing that chemical. Then, some nanny state idiots came along and said it causes cancer in lab rats or mice. After all the panic, people boycotting diet soda, someone did a little
digging into the research. Come to find out that the lab rats were fed the equivalent amount which
would require a human to consume 500 or more 12 oz
diet sodas a day!
Mice do NOT equal humans, as much as researcher would like you to think. If a study of humans, who have alzheimers, finds that their diet was rich in fast food & sugar, then you might have a case. As for getting the government to put a food tax on something, I say NO! The government runs enough of my life now, and in 09 will more than likely be running more of it, so no thank you for a food tax.
I find the problem with nutrition in America like this. We eat too many preprocessed foods than we did when I was a kid. Most people "grew their own" food in gardens, which gave us minerals, enzymes, and antibodies that we no longer get now that everything comes prepackaged.
I'm thinking about dumping it next year. Now that the merger is over, the Sirius "jocks" WON'T SHUT UP! The main reason I went with XM radio 5 years ago was NO TALKING, NO COMMERCIALS. The decades channels and some of the rock channels have "DJ's"
which have to talk over the music, yack yack yack.
If I wanted that, I could listen to FM for free.
Fix that, I'll keep it, don't, and I'm outta here.
Back to FM, CD's & MP3's
Something similar back in the 60's with something
like 48 engines? They never could get them to fire in sequence properly, and if one or so failed, it would throw the whole vehicle out of balance.
I guess 9 would be easier than 48, but I think they should just restart (and update) the Saturn V. That baby NEVER failed. Even after getting hit by lightning on Apollo 12, and center engine cutout on the 2nd stage, they just flat worked. (Not to be confused with the Apollo CM which blew apart on Apollo 13).
What bothers me about all of this "get the lead out" BS is that if a substitute is used, will it perform as well as what it replaced? Look at all the good banning R12 did. R134A does not work as well, plus, 20 years after banning it because "it harms the ozone", now we find out, OOPS, my bad...R12 isn't that bad after all. Tell that to the dead crew of the Columbia Space Shuttle. The foam on the external tank was built, thanks to the enviro-nazis WITHOUT any Freon, and it blew off in chunks, ultimately dooming the shuttle. If the lead is taken out of electronics, how long until a "mission critical" sensor, actuator or other device fails, just to make a bunch of 60's hippies feel better? If the replacement works as well or better than the lead version, fine, but, if it doesn't then leave it alone.
I've been in the electronics business for almost 40 years, and I can tell you from personal experience, that "lead free solder" (usually "silver solder") does NOT work as well as the lead/tin alloy that was used for over a hundred years.
But Captain......I can't change the laws of physics!
Just keep the matter & antimatter separate or you'll have a BIG problem. You'll have to dump the warp core!
Is because the democrats won the election. Had the election gone the other way, you would be hearing stories 24/7 about: voter fraud, intimidation, rigged machines etc.
Google the old NASA Dyna-Soar research vehicles of the 60's. This is nothing more than a lifting body.
Computer controlled, but still nothing more than a lifting body, add wings and you would have a mini space shuttle.
I thought I read somewhere that the "trade group" or whatever group does the standards for wireless phones, voted to make "miniusb" the standard for charging/data?
I know I won't buy a phone anymore that does not have a mini usb. My HTC/AT&T tilt has one, and it is so nice not having to carry a cable around everywhere I go, just to connect it to download something.
NASA should get out of the manned rocket business, turn that over to private developers, who can most likely do it better, faster and cheaper. NASA has become an overbloated government agency.
I pass on two reasons. #1, I'm left handed,
two, the receiver is the size of a normal flash drive! I use a Logitech nano, because you can leave the fricking receiver in the laptop all the time without having fear of snapping it off.
Sometimes I wish we could throw away technology, and go back to the old days...less stress. Just as long as they don't take my cell phone, wi-fi, internet, DVD's LOL.
Anyone that has an amateur radio license doesn't need to know this info. They already know that if voice communications fails, 99% of the time, you can send Morse code.

Billy Mazes here for you. How would you like to improve your gas mileage 20%, that's like getting a free take of gas after your fourth fillup! You can get it for 19.99, but, if you act now, we'll send you another one free! That's two fuel savers for only 19.99, you just pay shipping and handling on the 2nd one. And we'll send you a new one each year for LIFE, you just pay shipping and handling.
Oh come on...you know that it will be on those obnoxious commercials one of these days.
I work in a business that supports photocopiers, printers, fax machines etc. We are factory trained for brand X & brand Y. The the stupid sales genius idiots will go out and get new business, and then tell them "oh yeah, we'll wrap your brand Z machine into the contract with the new machine for servicing. Of course, do we have the parts, manuals and training on these brand Z machines? Hell no.
I think Vista is getting a bad rap. I'm not a gammer, so I can't speak of it in that regard. I use my laptop, Dell E1505, dual core, 2 gig ram, ATI video card, sata drive, 6-10 times a day, it runs pretty much 12 hours a day, in and out of sleep mode, on wi-fi spots all the time. Photoshop, MS office, and a couple of custom built apps. No problems since March of 07. If you have the hardware, at least for me, it's been a pleasure.

Here we go...more pop culture BS! Who gives a rats ass?

Oh the hackers will have a field day with this!

Typical of blood sucking lawyers...find ANYTHING you can sue over, and run with it all the way to the bank. Blood sucking pigs.

Unless they solve the noise problem, I doubt this will go very far. To much induced noise will splatter every radio, commercial, amateur or other.

Between the cooling fan on the Nvidia video card, and, the cooling fan on the water cooler...I only have to ask WHAT hard drive noise?

And here I thought the box I've been running for 5 years with a Corsair Hydrocool was pushing the nerd knob a little high.
I pass on two reasons. #1, I'm left handed, two, the receiver is the size of a normal flash drive! I use a Logitech nano, because you can leave the fricking receiver in the laptop all the time without having fear of snapping it off.
Wow....almost 8am central time (USA) and no comments? Is trek that dead?
