  1. Retired!!! on In Leaked Email, NASA Chief Vents On Shuttle Program's End · · Score: 1

We have combat airplanes and ships that receive a heck of a lot LESS stress than the shuttle receives, and we replace them in less than 30 years. The cost per flight is outrageous on the shuttle. They basically REBUILD THE SHUTTLE every flight! Engines stripped down and overhauled, tires, flight control hydraulics, etc. You just can't dump out the port-a-potty and put it back on the launch pad like was originally designed. If the shuttle worked as it was designed, it would be one thing, but just as with every government program, it is behind schedule, over priced, and under used.

  2. Follow the Money$$$ on Is the US Ready For the Switch To DTV? · · Score: 1

This big push for DTV in the USA, is nothing more than a money grab. I'm on cable, so the switch isn't going to impact me one bit. I'm all for big business, but this one stinks. A. TV manufacturers, who will sell thousands B. Some businesses who want that bank of frequencies such as wireless phone companies. C. The federal government, who will rake in the $$$ when they sell off the old analog(e) frequencies.

  4. live longer on Laboring Longer a Growing Trend For Americans · · Score: 1

EXACTLY! But, you won't hear that in the drive by media. It will be all gloom & doom. What's bad for America is good for liberal democrats. When the social security garbage was designed, the lifespan of Americans was in the upper 60 range, which meant if you made it to 65, the government would at best be paying out for a couple of years. Now, ROUTINELY, you have people living beyond their 80's! I plan on working until they push the dirt over me, not because I have to, but because I LIKE TO WORK. Something lost on a lot of people these days! They want an 8 hour day, tons of time off, and a 5 figure salary with no experience. Working your way up the ladder is lost on a lot of these spoiled brats.

  6. NOTA on A Look At Joe Biden's Tech Voting Record · · Score: 1

I still say we try voting "None Of The Above" this year. I know constitutionally, you can't, but it would be interesting to see how well the country would run if we had NO ONE in DC. Just go back to the way the constitution says. Put the government in charge of the military & making treaties, and let the states run everything else. Make people more responsible for their own lives.

When they built their 2nd house, on an undeveloped lot, the utility company wanted the transformer in the FRONT yard...easy access and everything. She told them flat out, you plant that thing in the front yard, I will plant thick rose bushes around it. They put it in the back yard. When they built their third and last house, the sub division was already done, which meant the transformer was in the front, year the curb. She planted that thing full of rose bushes, and a ton of other plants, which has grown up to pretty much hide it from view. A little planning and you can hide those things from view.

  8. Apollo/Saturn WORKED! on NASA's Orion Mock-Up Fails Parachute Test · · Score: 3, Insightful

Why not refer to the Apollo/Saturn program? IT WORKED. Whey they canceled Apollo/Saturn, those on that program said it was the worst thing they could do. Those rockets were cutting edge, and WORKED. Not ONE Saturn launch vehicle ever failed (the CM doesn't count). The problem is that now, all of those engineers are either long gone or retired. Those engineers didn't have the "beauty" of a CAD/CAM system to design it. Those guys used slide rules and gray matter. I'm sure eventually they will iron it out, it's just a shame that they threw away 30 years of success in the Apollo/Saturn program with the disaster called the Shuttle Transportation System.

  9. I thought it on Why the Olympics Didn't Melt the Internet · · Score: 0, Troll

Who knows what DNA or steroid manipulation is being done in weightlifting, the basketball teams are (at least the USA) from the ranks of the NBA....so, who cares, it's not "sport" as much as it use to be. Plus you have China faking a 9 year old singing, fake fireworks and who knows what else.

Yeah, and land area of Japan is smaller than the land area of the state of Texas. I wonder if that might have a little to do with it? Gee...you think? Japan has ONE time zone. USA has (continental U.S.) four. Japan has one telephone company. The U.S. has local, long distance, wireless etc... So, the article is moot, because there are too many variables.

I build (actually use to) scale plastic models, and sometimes the clear plastic parts are scratched from bouncing around the box. Depending on how deep the scratch, I will dry sand 400 grit, then wet sand 400 grit, and then switch to wet sanding 800 grit, taking it all the way down to (they call it) 1200 grit. After that I take some plastic polish (but you can use a light abrasive toothpaste), and polish with that. Then I'll usually give it a coat of Future floor wax. 99% of the time, the skips go away.

So, given China's population, I bet they have more internet users, but, they don't have the FREEDOM to see the TRUE internet.

  16. "going" to the movies is a lost business model on WB Took Pains To "Delay" Pirating of Dark Knight · · Score: 1

When you have at home movie/entertainment systems coupled with the high gas prices, coupled with the OUTRAGEOUS prices they charge for concessions, coupled with the price they charge you FOR the movie, coupled with the idiots who can't/won't SHUT THE H&LL up, it's no wonder more people are opt'ing out of "going" to the movies, and waiting for the movie to hit pay per view & the DVD rental/purchase to actually watch the movie at home, when they choose to. They can watch it at their leisure, make their own INEXPENSIVE concessions, watch it in their jammies if they want to. Some home entertainment systems other than the 3 story tall screens, rival what you see in the theater. The business model of getting a large percentage of the population to run out and see a movie is dying out, but the movie industry doesn't see it that way. Look, take a "typical" family of four seeing an opening run movie. Take 8 bucks as an average... that 16 bucks for the adults, say 4-5 bucks for the kids, add say 10 bucks, now you are up to almost 30 dollars just to get in the door! You know the kids are going to want something to munch on, so even if you get one of those family pack things, kick in another 10-20 bucks, split the middle, that's 15 bucks. Now you are at 45 bucks. Add in what it costs for gas, and you are on a conservative side of 50 bucks JUST TO SEE A MOVIE! Now, figuring you can watch it on pay per view usually for 9.99 and have your own popcorn soda, nachos or whatever and it's a no brainer! Stay at home and watch it.
