I have also found brown noise to be the best for me... a one hour processed brown noise track is my top played track on iTunes. You can see what works for you at http://whitenoisemp3s.com/.

"We thank the late Lynn Margulis for infecting us with her microbial enthusiasm — she would have savoured the notion of sauropods as walking methanogen vats.
They went to the ocean, scooped up some water, and the sequenced it. In environmental genomic sampling, you target an environment for sequencing (biofilm, soil, water, the human gut etc) and not a specific genome (corn, rice, humans etc).
It is really strange that you would think that Monsanto had IP rights to the corn genome. You are quite wrong. The corn genome project was funded by public dollars. http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2004/nsf04614/nsf04614.pdf
You can browse the maize genome or even download the data yourself: http://www.maizesequence.org/index.html
I have multiple copies of this data on my hard drive now.

Much of what we know about plant genetics and breeding is due to what we learned from corn. The corn genome is not just cool, but a fundamental model system. It provides insights into the genomes for the cereal plants that contribute most of the calories you eat every day.
From the article the research was "led by Professor Keizo Tomonaga at Osaka University in Japan". The article that Cedric wrote was just an opinion piece discussing the research by Dr. Tomonaga.
I have had my reviews not published on Overstock when they were negative. I tried multiple times to get the review online, and I quit buying anything from overstock without first finding external reviews. I have never had a review not accepted from Amazon, even when they were negative.
I am doing a Google Summer of Code project this summer. I have found it a really great way to join an existing Open Source project. This may be too late for you since you are in your last year of school, but other folks should check it out.
No s--t, if I were at the scene and knew the full situation I would have acted. The problem is that when you come on a situation like this and don't know the full story, it is hard to decide what the proper action is to take. Powerfull video.
The abstract with a link to the full pdf is available online. The pdf is available on campus from many universities.
It is interesting that this is already in the news. This is not technically in print form yet, and was just posted to the journal's advance articles web site.
I am listening to Pandora now. I would love to see a movie genome project get underway. It is quite possible to build one as an open source community collaboration project. I am surprised that no one has done this yet.
Developments such as these will allow lesbian couples to give birth to children that are the genetic descendents of both parents. Two eggs can be combined to give rise to a female child. This will probably happen within 20 years. Lesbian conception will really throw a wrench into arguments that gay couples can not marry due to their inability to have children.
This flower is among a number of animals that have been 'rediscovered' from extinction in the past few weeks. The funny thing is that if they are legally declared extinct under the endangered species act, they hae no protection under the act.
Photosynthesis is definitely the top for me. It changed the chemistry of the entire planet. Of course the human brain has done the same, but we will soon be extinct and out impact rather small compared to photosynthesis.
If the advertisers payed for the spot should I have to look at advertising in my bathroom when I get up to take a leak when the adds run on the tv? Advertisers 'paying for a spot' that may or may not be viewed is not a valid argument for forcing people to watch adds which they pay a Tivo Tax to avoid.
My lab does research on plant genomics, and we are involved in research concerning the duplication of genes in the plant discussed in the article. Many of the genes that a plant has exist in multiple copies and that is not a new idea. We can follow the evolutionary history of these duplicated copies and show that they often arise from duplication of the entire genome followed by selective genome loss. We also frequently find that single genes are duplicated by themselves, or that entire segments of a chromosome may be duplicated by the process of 'segmental duplication'.
The interesting thing here is that the scientist believe that a second copy of the gene does not exist as a DNA copy, but as an RNA copy. That is an interesting hypothesis, that will need to be explored further.
They list the Zenith Space Command TV Remote from 1956 as the first wireless remote. This was a great remote that gave us the word 'clicker' due to the way that it used ultrasonics to send the signal to the tv. However, the Philco Mystery Control from 1939 is the first real 'wireless' remote that was made. It
operated much like a rotary telephone control and sent its signal by radio. (Links go to google cache).
The Encyclopedia of Life is geared more toward the public http://eol.org/. The cool thing about the effort in the open tree of life ( http://opentreeoflife.org/ ) is that it is open data and open source driven. You can check out the code on github. https://github.com/OpenTreeOfL...

Wow dude. You need to get on your meds. The corn genome is quite cool.
I would think that the cosmic radiation dose you get on the airplane is much more deadly than even that.

You know, if this stage of your relationship lasts more than a week, I am legally allowed to stab you both.
If this works and someone can not get through for a 911 call, is fake Steve Jobs going to real jail?

I agree. At $100 I really wanted one, but at $1500 it is going to have to come with a happy ending for me to get one.
