  1. heres the Issue on How Cheap Can A PC Be? · · Score: 1

most average users, read non slashdot, non geek users. only use their computers to browse the internet, type a paper, build a spreadsheet, play solitare, and watch a few movies. all of these can be achieved by a system with a 400 mhz cpu and 32/64 megs of ram, if you drop the movie requirement probably 100 mhz cpu with 16/32 megs of ram. this is all assumming the right OS not necesarily Linux, windows, MacOS as well as well written applications. I always laugh when I here the online crowd say a system needs to be at least 1 ghz, 2ghz etc, because that is only taking into account bloatware apps. what I'd Like to see is a simple dummy proof piece of hardware with modem/ethernet with OS, word processor, spread sheet, web/email, multimedia player, maybe a couple simple games, all stored in say 256 megs of flash.provide a dvd/cd-rw drive with a simple app to be able to treat the rewrite capability of the drive as easily as it were a floppy. and provide a simple way to get system updates. I know it sounds like set top but no one company seems to make settop with all these features in simple to use package at a sub 150 dollar price tag. market it to schools, libraries, third world countries, etc and someone could make bundle if done well

if you can answer this then I will give the argument to you, when has america been popular with the world? yankee dollars does not count, as Clint Eastwood said (not a quote) the ak-47 assault rifle is the favorite weapon of the "I hate Americans", and there are a hell of a lot of ak-47 , even in america. the problem is people don't like the boat to be rocked and america for better or worse likes to stick its nose into other peoples business. though I don't know if I'd call the Economy that bad there still is a goodly number of jobs available, even with the unemployement rate. any problems can be laid on the Investors being chicken. I made a good bit of cash investing in this Economy.

care less about sun beating on Red Hat if they have adopted Red Hat over Sun Or Microsoft its
probably because they have weighed the options
and found that Linux, in this case RedHat is the best solution to their needs, and if Sun succeeded in this gambit then a distro change probably is not the hardest fix, but a change of OS/OS,Platform would probably be a bitch to implement. Sun might succeed in hurting or Killing RedHat but then they would need to switch over to attacking SUSE, then Mandrake, then oh dear I hope they have deep pockets, and forgiving investors

I read a book several years ago about the whole cold fusion debacle and as it was explained the electrochemist (read, not physicist) who purportedly developed had fraudulant and questionable backgrounds already. the actual result of excess energy was explained, Paladium like the other metals in its group such as platinum absorb hydrogen freely and as the electrodes liberate Oxygen some of which dissolves in the water then heat the water, creating bubbles of oxygen albeit small bubbles. when these form near the heavy hydrogen rich paladium hydride which are also hot there are bound to be small mini explosions the book also went on to show that the same happens with regular water substituted for heavy water so don't hold your breath for cheap simple fusion power just yet
