why are you waiting for this? It is VERY likely this is going to be yet another bullshit ruling that allows them to do whatever the hell they please.
IMHO there is a simple solution to their actions. They are to release their code into public domain, they are to refund 100% of the funds that they gained from Windows to the users that actually bought it (no receipts required, just the package and the key), and they will no longer be able to profit from any of their CURRENT products.
This will never happen and anything short of this is worthless.
Plus his statement that it has only taken 3 SPs? Who the hell cares how many it has taken? As long as it is getting closer to being secure. People run Windows. People who use Windows are less likely to know-how, or care-to-know-how to install patches for their OS.
Be thankful that MS does SOMETHING to repair SOME holes.
Stop w/the little jabs at the end of every fucking Microsoft related article, I really can't stand it.
the contradiction is: when the poster said, "How about forbidding American corporations from trading censorware goods or services to these "repressive governments," wouldn't that be a good start?"
educate people who are getting infected? Come on. Your not serious...
These people think that when they install virus scan software they are safe. I recently re-installed Windows on my gf's computer. She had V-Shield on there from 1999. She had no idea that she would need to update it.
At least my roommate, my parents, and my gf know (from me) not to open attachments. But educate a WIDE group of people? That's just not going to happen and you know it.
At the local video store here I pay $6.00 for 3 DVDs. Sure, it's only for 24h, but that's three movies, a 6 min round-trip drive, and 24h.
Instead, w/this god-awful idea, I would have to waste X-amount of hours downloading a movie, sit on my COMPUTER and watch it, and then it is still only good for 24h.
Ok. I download a TON of DVD-Rips from Kazaa. I have a TV-out card to my VCR's RCA inputs. I *could* tape these... Why? I can download the movies faster, rent them faster and CHEAPER.
This is doomed. They have one idea in mind... Blaming us for it failing...
this really isn't funny. It's an interesting point. Do most people really care that Linux is at version 2.6 or 3.0? No, not really.
They want to push for 3.0 as a marketing tool, yet most companies that would even consider deploying Linux wouldn't be concerned w/the kernel version #'s. They are going to be concerned w/the distribution version #'s.
After all, their support is probably going to come from the distribution manu, not IRC or a mailing list.
The poor ranking of the United States (17th) is mainly because of the number of journalists arrested or imprisoned there. Arrests are often because they refuse to reveal their sources in court. Also, since the 11 September attacks, several journalists have been arrested for crossing security lines at some official buildings.
Crossing security lines at official buildings is illegal. I don't see how being prosecuted for this is such an important factor in the descision.
While I feel that reporters should not be prosecuted for refusal to reveal sources, the crossing of SECURE LINES is ridiculous.
I would also like to point out that the US is in the 10th position as the other countries were tied for their spots.
Not to say that the US doesn't deserve its rating, just pointing out some things from the article.
resume nuclear testing b/c we really don't know what they do...
Nuclear testing is sorta pointless. Nuclear weapons cause long-term irreversable destruction and human death.
I really don't see a need to restart testing.
These countries that have nuclear weapons programs currently, aren't going to be deterred by us testing them. They are going to be deterred by us using them (which is really not going to happen in the forseeable future).
The article says that the bill was DESIGNED to ease the financial burden on small webcasters, but in all reality, it probably would not have.
They were to be charged.07 per person per song in royalties. Instead, at this point they can pay $500/yr (from 1998 to present, IIRC) to cover their costs.
The small webcasters themselves had not been consulted when the original law was drafted and therefore felt that they would be put out of business by these "small" fees..07/per song+person could raise some HEFTY fees.
right. I am going to patent "left arms". Any mutation of the "left arm" is going to also be owned by me (including Mr. Universe contest winners, Baseball player's achievements, etc).
I have a $100 stereo hooked to the DVD player. It includes surround sound speakers...
I have a 27" TV (hand me down, about 10-12 years old).
I MUCH prefer this theatre to the one in Maumee, OH which would set me back about $9.00/ea ticket.
My couch is FAR more comfortable than the theatre chairs, I don't get a nose bleed from the stadium seating, and I don't have to listen to the asshole teenagers blabbing the whole time (then who tell someone 10 years older than them to STFU, on a side note: When I was 12 I wouldn't THINK of talking to a 21+ year old, nevermind talking back to them)
Again, 2.99/ea or $6.00/three DVDs rental. $9.00/ea (18.00/total) for movies.
exactly. Why would I NOT rent the DVD for $2.99/ea or $6.00/three? I am going to goto a VERY expensive movie theatre (to get the same sort of experience that I would at home) for $9.00/ticket?
$6.00 for three movies (at my convienience) or $18.00+ for one?
No matter what the hardware that the movie theatre has, it does NOT justify a $9.00 ticket price.
Yeah, he replaced MANY parts of the HVAC equipment in the facility he currently works at.
First of all, he had to determine the amount of power that the current units were consuming. Then he had to figure out what the new units would consume. After that he had to present this material to the reviewers.
Now. Let's say he gets paid $X/yr. The people under him get paid $Y/yr. They are going to have to replace Z amount of fans at such and such a price.
Now. How many hours these changes will have to take coupled w/the cost of the changes, is going to save HOW much?
When you become a certified HVAC mechanic w/30+ years of experience, you can come talk, until then, please express your views to someone else.
my father is a HVAC mechanic. He currently works as the Maintenance Supervisor at an animal testing facility in NEPA.
He says that such devices are practically non-sense. Changing CERTAIN devices related to HVAC will save you $200 to $500 over a 10-15 year period. There is NO way to save much more in large buildings (which this device seems to).
You are going to have to pay for new equipment to save then you are going to have to watch the savings over the years after the equipment is changed.
it's really not as great of a device as they say it is.
It's pretty much on the front page b/c of free advertising at least IMHO.
I use Enlightenment. I have no icons. I have a menu that comes up on the left mouse click w/my favorite programs.
I use Brushed Metal for my theme. It's clean. I have no graphics in my background (a holdover from my 256 color, 800x600, 8 bit days using a laptop). I have 2 virtual desktops. One's for Mozilla, the other's for whatever else (again a hold over from when I was using dual heads).
I don't need keyboard shortcuts, and I can easily cut and paste back and forth between the web and my other windows.
I like it simple, but "ratpoison" reminds me of Desqview/X (which went away for a reason).
I will keep screen on the console where it belongs and use X like *I* believe it was supposed to be used.
I have a handheld GPS unit. I also have a mouth. I stop and ask directions (I know, I know, blasphemy for a male). I have a road map of just about everywhere I could possibly be (girlfriend's idea in case the GPS isn't working or something).
I will own my first cell phone in a few weeks. I have to have it. It will be off 100% of the time I am sure.
I travel quite a bit. I have NEVER had the need to use a phone.
when I checked the "poll" it had 0 reporting and 0% for yes and 0% for no.
/.'d I dunno.
Whether or not that had anything to do w/the database being

There is nothing to see here.
too difficult to implement across many different distributions.
apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade works fine for me.

I think the point is that a typically "easy to use" distribution is going to come w/Office working out of the box.
It's just one step closer to what SOME of the Linux community want, easy to use desktop, easy transition from Windows, full Office support.
Downloading a product, installing said product, and getting it to work, are not the easiest things for most to do. This is what you are missing.
the contradiction is: when the poster said, "How about forbidding American corporations from trading censorware goods or services to these "repressive governments," wouldn't that be a good start?"
you have to dump the proxy. It's only for registration purposes. Otherwise you will get the error "you are being blocked by the SAS proxy".
They have NO proxies, in fact, they prefer that you don't use any at all (even your own).
when I connect w/the driver's face after he hits me b/c he was too busy talking to someone else instead of paying attention to where he was going.

sorry but I use Chicago Style notation. RTF does NOT handle these correctly. Thus, RTF is broken and not what I want to convert my docs into.
IMHO OO should convert WP8 for Linux files just fine.
