I have used WP8 for Linux for years. I can't open any of these documents in OO. What good does this LINUX WordProcessor do me when I can't open LINUX documents?
I will stick to Abiword, the footprint is small and it does what I want.
so XFree86 = usage stattistics?

The End Of Minix?

since when were you required to run XF86 when you ran any Unix-based OS?
Just b/c they feel that there have been no users since 1996 (which is probably the case, but not the point) that means the end of Minix?
At least get some real proof it is dead before you put such scandalous headlines on the frontpage;)
sadly (as I have posted before under this topic) that's not the case.
From my experience, people would pay for HSD service (45.95+) just to use AOL. They would call up asking why AOL wasn't working. How they could make AOL come back.
These people were complaining about how poor the service was and how much they paid for it, yet they were *also* subscribing to AOL. Two services that do exactly the same thing, yet they MUST use AOL.
AOL won't die as long as people are dependent on it.
from what I found working as a tech rep for an ISP was that most people don't understand that the web is more than one or two pages.
They are VERY confused when they get a new computer and see MSN.com as their homepage and not www.attbi.com (in this case). When ATTBI made the switch from excite, people were NOT pleased that home.excite.com no longer worked. I had TONS of calls during the "changeover" and most of them were people wanting to know where "the Internet went".
So, whether or not some parts of AOL/the Internet went, most AOL users probably won't even know its missing.
These people are comfortable w/in-house content it seems.
Hell, most of the people wanted cable modems just to use AOL faster. That's it. Scary.
they need to send "screener" copies to many people so that they can give good reviews on the movies. I would say that these copies are the ones that are most generally leaked to the Internet.
See TMD's copy of My Big Fat Greek Wedding (which had a counter running in the top corner of the screen the entire movie), or Signs which had a red line moving from top left to bottom right every so often. Other movies I have seen that were found on the Internet have long scrolling messages from the MPAA about reporting if you have purchased or found this release anywhere except an offical source...
I absolutely *refuse* to watch CAM versions of movies that have been put on the net. I would rather wait for the DiVX copy of the DVD or the screener.
Most of the problems occur internally, not at the theater. They are just being annoying.
sure they could but it is unlikely that masses of people are going to move to the 64bit platform. Apple still lacks the software base that MS has (unfortunatly I suppose) and the hardware will be out of the price range that most people will be looking to spend (I just purchased a second PC for $500 including monitor, I have no desire to pay as much as the PPC platform will cost).
Dreams in this case will most likely remain just that (no matter how bad I want them to come true:)
I agree. In no way, shape, or form, is the "vi" interface a good one.
"Steep learning curve" does not make the UI fast. It makes it slow.
Some people noted that after using the program (and having the manual) any break in usage would result in them completely forgetting what they needed to do.
Perhaps the "side projects" that have sprung up will be worked on more now that the project is open to everyone.
I was reading through some of the previous articles b/c as we all know, the server is/.'ed.
I found a lot of complaints about the UI of the program (see one here)
Any of the hardcore Blender users planning on actually doing some development on the UI (and some features which other programs have, ie default lighting?)
I am really interested in doing some of my own editing soon and I would love to see an easy to use program that isn't referred to as "the vi of 3D modelling"
Just some thoughts until we can see the actual article.
I must point out that most people have NO idea when they are infected with a virus, especially email borne ones.
These people think that mail sent by the viruses that are being returned to them are actually others accessing their computer and emailing from it. They have no idea that they have contracted a virus at all.
explain to me what you were thinking when you didn't do this w/escrow? I will not pay for anything over $100 w/o escrow. It's worth the charges.
I purchased some Nakamichi cassette decks. Both were over $100 IIRC (the BX-300 especially). They went smoothly and I got the decks just fine. What happened after I received them is another story...
I'm starting into the "real-world" at 23, nearly 24. I had some jobs prior to this one that I will be starting early Nov. but none that were "real".
The starting pay absolutely blows. If I were to have 100k "stashed-away" by the time I am 32, I would have to save 1/4 of my earnings for 10 years. Now, explain to me how you are supposed to: buy a house, pay for your car, keep out of debt, and still fucking have 100k saved by the time you are 30s?
I am worried about making it on the meager allowance I am going to have. I have a hard time understanding how most places you supposedly can afford a two bedroom living unit and support a family on 11.00/hr. I worked for 9.80/hr and I couldn't afford to live in my apt w/a roommate and support myself.
What I don't understand about the whole lawsuit is how Nissan (motors) can prove that they own the rights to that name. Uzi was apparently around before Nissan became any sort of MAJOR advertising spender ($400 million last year).
The judge decided that the Internet wasn't that big of a deal in 1994, so the 5 year span between the registration of nissan.com and 1999 when they sued was ok. WHAT? Explain to me how this is ok? Uzi had it first, tough shit if they didn't decide that the Internet wasn't all that important.
Early bird gets the worm. Money should have no bearing on who gets what domain.
If I were Uzi, I would tell them to use nissancomputer.com for themselves.
When I heard Parents I immediately thought of people that are not technically inclined.
So, if we are looking to market an electronic device why the hell would you want to market it to people who are going to write their shopping list on the back of last week's grocery receipt?
And to market to kids? My calculator was stolen when I was in 5th and 6th grade (maybe 6th and 7th). Granted I wasn't taking the best care to make sure it wasn't in plain view outside of math class. Who's to say that this PDA should be brought to school?
They already banned TI-85 gaming, why wouldn't they ban PDAs as well? Holy cheating Batman.
If they are truly marketing towards Parents and Children, they are making a huge error.
While Mr. Naimark acknowledged that he had some ethical discomfort about his project because his information could be useful to terrorists, he decided to go ahead.
"My interest and motivation is to provide the creative community with some stimulating and provoking stuff," he writes. "These are stimulating and provoking times."
I have ethical problems w/these devices being put into place to watch me. They have absolutely NO place in public areas. I do NOT like the fact that people are there watching what I do.
VMS sites in PA have bothered my for some time. They are going to "only watch traffic patterns". Oh fucking bullshit. They are going to say that until they are in place and in use for an undetermined amount of time. Once the devices are there they are going to use them to track speeders and other lawless individuals.
We do NOT need machines tracking us or doing the job of the police. If the cop isn't paying attention, or isn't there when I blow by their hiding spot in the middle of the road at 105, tough.
There's NO reason to have feelings against radar jamming (the cops cheat to find out how fast you are going, why shouldn't we cheat and not let them know how fast we are going?), blocking out video taping in public places of people, etc.
I am less likely to purchase a PDA at $300 when the website is mostly "Under Construction".
It has great features like MS Office compatible Office Suite (that I have never heard of), ability to Sync w/several OSs, and import info into PIMs like Outlook.
Problem is I didn't see a CF card slot (for wlan and extra storage) and the site itself being pretty much scary.
I would rather spend the money and purchase a new iPaq. Those are rock solid and have a long history of serving their users well.
personally, I didn't like watching TV on 9/11/02. They were repeating the same garbage all day long. The reporters were rather boring and the news coverage the same.
I preferred to read/. (as most other news sites were unreachable due to traffic) b/c of not only the news but also discussion w/others. It was interesting to read what other people were feeling, especially those that were not in the US.
sure, we use that here. Due to interference, WindowsXP wlan support sucking (don't argue w/me, I have proven that it is XP), and the expense of running 802.11 there's no real reason to worry about it, especially if you have 100 fucking wires behind your stereo anyway.

off the bat integration of movies.
you better be able to. If VeriSign is going to continue to profit from it, why should we not be able to?
