Don't want Slashdot to change into Reddit. Large audience do not equate to quality. Go to Reddit if you want to see all the cute cat pictures- please don't change Slashdot into Reddit. Slashdot has its downsides- but it still (even after Dice bought it) remains the one website that I need to browse once a day. Also happy April's Fool day.
Almost all big computer technology companies have a.cn website- for their Chinese consumers. When I was in China, I tried to open Apple's website in Chinese and it would often not work or crawl. If I open the same website using an open proxy, it would work smoothly.
Actually I did. And I did not find ANY reliable and trustworthy link between the two. Between somebody who makes grandiose claims and somebody who asks some proof of the claims, who is the bigger troll?
I have Archos Internet Tablet 5. They sold quite a few here in the States. Unfortunately, the device is buggy as hell. When they came out with the tablet, Archos promised Android 2+ update but so far it is still stuck with Android 1.6 (Donut). The "official" market for the tablet is a tiny subset of the market by Google. There are random reboots and hangups. For some reason the wireless is really crappy. To its credit,Archos has released a number of firmware updates. But even after all this updates, the random reboots and hangups have not been fixed. The sound quality is good but I would not recommend it to anybody.
Incitement to murder (even if it was a joke) should not be a free speech matter. The councilor said publicly that this writer should be killed. Joking about killing somebody in public, particularly when you are in a elected position, is not funny and should be illegal.
I don't know why this post is moderated down. The Guardian "retraction" points that the literal translation is "the regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time". IMHO, the sentiment issued is not far from "wipe Israel from the face of the earth".
Citation needed. Who modded this shit +5 insightful. WSJ, or at least the editorial page, is very right wing, and have been known to spread outright lies , lies and more lies. The paper is owned by the "impartial" owner of Fox news, Rupert Murdoch.
Good luck with that. It works for the WSJ because the WSJ reports actual news; investors will not tolerate op-ed rants being passed off as news because it would make the WSJ worthless for financial analysts. The NYT (and subsidiaries like the Boston Rag, er, Globe) pass off op-eds as news and ignore stories which don't support their biases - such lack of objectivity is not something you are likely to succeed in selling online to people in business. People at home will just tune to CNN and FauxNews for their daily dose of op-eds rather than sit in front of a browser to pay for their spoon-fed propoganda.
Mod Parent up. One of the most insightful posts in the discussion. I see rants about immigrants coming to "overpopulated" countries. I see rants about cultural purity. Half of the posts that I read here are basically racist and xenophobic. Then I stumble into this gem. A open world is better for everybody- restrictions on human movements are basically against human rights. Humans should have the right to go where they want to.
I am currently in China and the Internet censoring is not as bad as I had thought. I can open most websites, including BBC and New York Times. Most online proxies work. I can read any article from wikipedia- including that of Falun Gong,Tibet and Human Rights. The most notable failures are Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch websites. Maybe I can read most websites because they are in English?
1.First think of something negative (but valid -and not incendiary or provocative- like lack of experience for Obama and openness for Hillary) about the two candidates.
2.Register on their websites so that you can post your comments. Obama Hillary
3.Post your comments in answer to any of their blog postings.
4.Check the blog to see if your postings appear or not. Give some time.
Having gone through all these, I have to say-a better candidate should not(and does not) censor anything which is a valid criticism.
As much as I would hope that what you say is true, my personal experience tells me a completely different story. There is a general antipathy against immigrants and non-white foreigners. You may remember the attack on a pensioner carried out by two immigrants. The right wing mass selling bild prints as much tripe against immigrants and foreigners as possible. Being a black, I can tell you that many places in East Germany are still no go areas. There is serious danger of physical attack on immigrants in East Germany. And I personally believe that the 2 million number is probably an underestimate. Most Germans are hostile towards non-white foreigners. At least that is the experience that I got when I was in Germany.
Copyrights do have its caveats but you must agree that one of the reason such high quality music is coming out is because of copyright and the chance copyright gives to the musicians/singers/bands. Copyright protection is paying them money, which is a big incentive. Now , if you have talent it is more likely that you would be in center stage somehow or you will be spotted. 100 years ago, it was more that likely that your talent would go to waste. Copyrights and money have created todays musical world with countless genres, good musicians and quality music. If copyright would not exist:half of the singers/musicians will disappear,as the most powerful incentive of all, money will be gone.
India becoming a superpower,Heh don't make me laugh.I know what India could become and what India is already in terms of being a superpower. It is a superpower all right,a superpower (or is it a pooh-power of corruption,(Everybody agrees India is a,corrupt land),genocide, dowry deaths(bride burnings bride burnings, losers, and a country of losers.

Agreed. I like the idea of a cleaner design but I cannot stand for the low-contrast text. Like I always say, if it works, don't change it.

Twitter, like Google, has been close to Obama. [Citation Needed] Please refrain from saying something like this without actually backing it up.

Beijing does not have a Maglev train line. Probably you are referring to the Shanghai Maglev.

In my school, somebody just waved to me signifying something new in my google wave. Guess I have to start using "wave" again.
Humanity is Dead. Here comes the Death-ray.
Chrome keeps telling me that the flash plugin has crashed. So I don't have to look at some weird guy when I open a page. Not bad.
Chromium OS is the development version of Chrome OS which, when released during 2nd half of 2010, is also going to be completely open source.

I am waiting, waiting, waiting for something interesting. Like the Linux Journal http://www.linuxjournal.com/ now changing into BeOS journal. Or the Google's plan http://www.google.com/virgle/index.html to send us all to Mars. I am waiting.

Why is the related story to this story is the story itself? How is related stories added? What/who determines related stories?
You can know the date of the article by the URL. For example http://meta.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=07/10/04/1319239 is published in 2007 October 4.
Soccer is the most popular game in the world, no doubt. But have you seen the monkey chantings and racist chants prevalent in most soccer games. World Series and Super Bowl may not be the biggest sporting event in the world ,but it is certainly without
complete Ku-Klux-Klan style sport or
a sport of intolerance towards blacks and immigrants.
WTF,I was just about to relieve the stress and duress of my everyday life as a geek by playing some online game. One message, Fuck You.
