Not sure if you were joking or not, but Kazaa is a de-centralized network... the files you get come from other users on the network (also known as P2P), not from a central server... That's why the RIAA can't shut down Sharman so easily, Sharman technically isn't infringing on any copyright if they don't actually distribute the content themselves.
How very ironic... I just bought an ATI All In Wonder 7500 for the exact same intention (and late night frag sessions ofcourse)... Just get a video card with a built-in TV tuner... The one I bought was under $100!!!!
I just took a look at the Kazaa Lite homepage and found a new app on the list I haven't seen since my last check a few weeks ago.... It seems "Soul Seek" (that name bothers me) is the replacement they are now offering... One catch, IT'S A CENTRAL SERVER! So why hasn't the RIAA ran after this?
<conspiracy mode=1>
Maybe the RIAA has paid off the makers of K++ and made this new "app" as a honeypot for people to use instead so to collect data on users who request songs that are copyrighted... What kept K++ anonymous was its decentralized system, why would the RIAA not go after something that is directly hosting copyrighted files? Unless some news about the RIAA going after Soul Seek comes up, I am gonna steer clear of it...
What I find interesting is that this didn't start way back when the original walkman was in use...
On a seperate note, why do they specifically use the iPod in the article and not MP3 players in general, that's the point of a UNIVERSAL headphone jack isn't it?
Leave the toying with children thing to Michael Jackson, RIAA... It's his job to poke around in their pockets not yours.
Seriously though, the RIAA doesn't care who you are so long as you've got their material without paying for it. Instead of this whole big campaign against people who share their material, why not use it to pay the artists in compensation for the money they "might" be losing?
I disagree... Why not just have the firmware inside the router programmed to read all incoming bits. Instead of just passing them, it would physically read the data coming through and just use the ISP as a relay to see if in fact this code is viral or not? The latency wouldn't be much of a big deal so long as the ISP puts up nice "big block" machines to handle the request loads...
Seriously, Family Guy was the best thing to hit FOX since The Simpsons... I am still curious as to why they cut it in the first place, never actually got a straight answer but I would asume that it was due to it's... strong presentation.
How exactly do you expect people to pay for something that's used several million times a day and at the moment doesn't cost a cent?
To tell you the truth, there is no way anything like this can be pulled off, think about all the free services MS, Yahoo, and many others provide... What happens when someone writes up another virus that mass mails everyone in a contact list... And now for the icing on the cake.
If they do decide to implement something this ludacris, who is to say we can't get our email sevices from another country THAT DOESN'T CHARGE TAXES? I thought so...
But there in lies the problem. How many people save passwords and other means of authentication for personal use into their local computers without giving any thought to what information may be derived from it when another person in the vicinity may gain access to said computer?
Actually, it has been common knowledge for a little while now that Microsoft is backing SCO to pull off all this garbage... There are the obvious reasons as to why MS would be behind SCO on this but the most insulting one is the fact that they are trying to build a monopoly all over again along with the help of the monkey boy named SCO... If SCO hadn't started all this BS about having a part of Linux to themselves, it wouldn't have escalated to such proportions...
Open Source and free software can't die... There is a simple, logical reasoning to this: For free software, if it was designed to make money for the programmer it would have been sold/released that way... Programmers ask for contributions as thanks for their hard work and they get them... Every time their material is distributed, it is spread another step further to someone else who will donate to a decent programmer. As for open source, you can't kill what you don't control... as long as the source is available, it can be re-created, re-designed, and re-made to keep up with the tasks which they were deisgned to do, there is no one who can decide "development of open source project X has ceased" since they do not control the code... That is what makes me love open source and America, they are both free!... Scratch the part about America, Big Brother is watching...
I have always wondered something... I know that there are ways of converting heat to electricity, and I know that electricity can generate heat... I am just wondering if there is a reason why no one has used this mutual connection to investigate enhancing battery technology based on this simple cyclic loop... Can anyone explain?
But hey, at least in the event of spontaneous combustion, I'll be partially protected.
Ummm, which part exactly...
Taking a look at the video, I noticed a compact flash card in a stripped reader... This must be where the Mantis gets it's instruction set from...

Riker: It seems to be a solar eclipse sir
Piccard: All hands embrace for impact!
Non-messy geek?.... The mother of all oxymorons....

If you're interested in participating in the Ebola clinical trials, the NIH needs 27 volunteers.
And thus "slashdotting" takes on a whole new meaning...
I still think the White Space language is more dynamic...

I can see it now...
Father: Hey son, come take a look at all the new pictures we took from our trip
Son: Ummm, dad that may not be such a good idea.
Father: Hmmmmm, there seems to be another memory stick in the area, it's probably from your mothers camera, let's have a look...
Son: NO DAD DON'T!
Father: Son, where did this picture of our dog taking a bong hit come from?
Son: Ummmmmm.... it's moms camera, ask her...
**Son runs off and moves out of the country**

So when will our friend Lance Bass be leaving?
