Werd, however you know that the NSA is on your ass dude! hehe but seriously, think about how much money the government wastes on bullshit (aka $1 trillion war). Each state would be better off on it's own, or perhaps with a weak federal government.

    Divided we stand, better!

Japan is one of the most forested countries on earth, it is true. According to Jared Diamond (the book 'Collapse') they shifted their consumption of wood to New Guinea and the tropical rainforests of SE Asia.

We must take great care that, in preserving our own resources vis-a-vis taxes we do not encourage those countries with currupt or uncaring central governments to exploit their own resources for short-term profit.

In short: We must be careful not to off-shore environmental destruction.

  7. Re:The orgy must end on Siberian Permafrost Melting · · Score: 1

I think we need to ask ourselves what the eventual goal should be. Our standard of living is endlessly doubling, but to what end? We all need to examine what is important in our lives. When we do that, the consumer lifestyle falls aside naturally. It is a lifeless husk, there's nothing of substance to it.

So yes, build your catamaran and view your quickly vanishing world.

Revel in your desire to destroy trees and consume shite.

And when you climb into bed at night, notice how hollow and meaningless your life is.

I actually appreciate that 14 year olds, or any age, can get on the net. I was exposed to an amazing array of information near that age that I might not have had access to if I hadn't started to explore the net.

I would really have to say that worrying about "agism" on slashdot is a waste of your time. The net, at least to me, is the domain of geeky teenagers, maybe you dont know it yet. That might be because of non-tech savvy older generation can't compete, but in any event the net provides for most kids a greater degree of autonomy then is possible in their everyday lives. So in that sense I think teenagers should be given more leeway then adults, they deserve it. You know-youth culture *always* supercedes the older generations.

Let the kids roam, its good for the ecosystem. In fact, script kiddies are good for the ecosystem too as well as people who program and teach people to program. Hellz, there's plenty of room for all.
