I don't think this is neccessarily a valid connection. These are(mostly) huge bands that have been around for a long time, which means that they a) are likely to charge a lot more per ticket than a newer band and b)appeal to an older audience which(arguably) is more willing to spend a lot of money for the occaisonal concert.

Wouldn't a company have even more to gain than just money from NASA by using similar technology to win America's Space Prize? Maybe someone can correct me here, but it seems like it would be feasible to complete the two missions with similar enough technology that the two applications might offset the cost.

We've spent billions of dollars on levees for New Orleans, yet one small category 3 hurricane is all it takes to breech them.

Actually, the levee's in New Orleans broke because they were underengineered and poorly maintained (see here)

Furthermore, just because those particular levees broke doesn't mean the entire technology is impossible or infeasible.

In fact, it would seem levees are used in quite a number of places and have been for a long time, with relatively high success rates.

Why is it the retailer's job to watch what the kiddiez are doing? It isn't that hard to pay attention to ones kids' enough to know when they buy a new game and to check it out. One might even do something crazy and *gasp* spend some time with them doing something they like, like playing their games. Then you'll know exactly what you're kids are playing and can make an informed decision, rather than relying on someone else not only to make the decision, but enforce it.

I haven't tried it myself, but I hear they work pretty well. You could probably even find information on the windows versus linux debate there too.

I, for one, am tired of hearing the constant flamewars about windows on slashdot. We get the point, you like Linux better, it in some ways is better. 'nuff said, move along.

Even if the license (oddly) prohibited redistribution, supplying the source code to software with the software itself will always be better that not. Closed source is a dead end. I cheat in online games, I'll admit it. And I'm also a jerk to everyone in the game whenever possible, and I'll tell you why.

I LOVE to see peoples rage. I love it when the people who are playing honestly and seriously explode at me, "OMFG MODOR N00B CHAETER". I love watching their inability to spell anything right in their rage. I love ruining the thing they hold so dearly and take so seriously. And I love mocking their seriousness with my friends.

I also love how superior to me it makes them feel to proclaim that "OMG U SUX SO U R A MOTOR" and how they've been playing that game since they were an uncombined sperm and egg, and that if I had been too I wouldn't be a "MODER N00B".

I love their assumptions that I am cheating because I lack skill. I do lack skill, sure, but I know that cheating doesn't make me skilled, nor does it make it up for my lack of skill. I don't care, that's never been what it's about for me.

Finally, I also love their contradictory proclamations of how great they are, which are followed by strings of one-letter online abbreviations. (i.e "U R a...") And their string of non-sequitirs mixed with ad-hominems regarding a wide range of topics. (i.e, my mother's sex life, my sex life, my lack of skill, my lack of intelligence(I can't count how often I've been called "DMUB" or "RETRADED"))

This thing about finding pr0n sites unoffensive is really an interesting topic, and in a way, is really what this whole issue boils down to. So then, this begs the question, who gets to set the standards for the rest of the world, those who are easily offended or those who aren't?
