I have a Dell 600m and I have to say, that laptop LCD displays have improved 10 fold over the last few years. A couple years ago I would never want to play a First Person Shooter on a laptop due to the horrible refresh rates.
On this laptop I can play Enemy Territory with no problems. The display is excellent and even seems clearer then my NEC MultiSync CRT. The laptop has a Radeon 9000 (64mb) which can handle RtCW:ET with no problems (and the new Linux ATi drivers are very good).
Using a USB mouse, there is not much difference in gaming on a laptop then the desktop. The big plus is that there is a lot less to lug around to a LAN party.
I haven't tried new games like UT2004 on it, and will admit I'm afraid to due it being underpowered for a game like that, but overall they do make decent gaming platforms.
Metrosexual male looking to remove Virii from his Boxen that has all the latest BlingBling attached. I've Google'ed for Open Solutions but the Vortal interface conflicted with the Teledildonics.
Bill Gates is on Crack
He's got it backwards, software will be free but the hardware (with the encrypted firmware) will cost an arm. OSes will be embeded into the hardware.
I wonder what it's like to be in Billys head, must be an icky place to be...unlike the twisted chaotic world that is in my head
Having a couple Russian female friends, I have to say that they talk just like you read there. Only the female Russian accent is truely beautiful, to bad we were all married, and not to each other...that accent is such a turn on!
Unless you plan on playing chess wirelessly, it's not really good for LAN parties. It's 802.11b for goodness sake.
Some people are truely spoiled...I play ET over my wireless all the time and it is just fine
But you do have a point as more people join on the AP, 802.11b does have a 11 Mbps limit (which is still enough for a decent 10 player game)...so just upgrade it to 802.11g and you can get ~5x more out of it
Hmm, last time I called HP for a support issue with a HPUX server, I had a support person that used the words "dude" "Winblows" and "Microsux" quite often. Quite refreshing to hear personaly on the business side =)
If HP is outsourcing, then it is in their home/printer department...I doubt they are outsourcing Linux support.
Whoohoo! Quoting responses time! If you say "this box is full of money" so I take it, and it turns out to be a bomb, you're somehow not responsible since I willingly took it after you lied to me about what it is? Click here for up to date, unbiased news and the final authority on internet/computer law!
if you expected to get something you didn't from that link, sue me. You took something for granted and did not get what you thought it was Ignorance is no excuse
Cracks aren't necessarily illegal.
True, but why get them from an unknown source when Game Copy World has more trustworthy content?
The theft of services occurs when the program is run. Any system resources used by the program as essentially "stolen."
Then stop pinging me, thief!! Those are MY packets your using!
So it's ok to commit computer crime if you don't agree with the way someone is utilizing their time?
It's not ok at all, finish the original post. I disagree with installing programs/applications on people, period. But a simple pop-up and a quick message to a server saying "This guy just ran this" is not illegal. If it is, then we all can sue the pants off of Microsoft, Valve, Yahoo, Google, phpBB, vBulletin, Mozilla, Red Hat, Gnome.org or whatever else you can think of that uses a form of tracking in their programs.
You: "Yes, your honor, I stole his car, but only after I found out he had a stolen bag of Cheetos in the trunk.."
Judge: "Case dismissed!"
I'm not taking anything, THEY are taking IP Addresses. Downloader's are taking complete software packages. Again, when did collection IP Addresses become immoral and unethical? As I stated before, if these are collected to blackmail someone, then THAT is illegal. But just have someone's IP Address is not illegal.
I enjoy being "short-sighted", especially when it involves the "everything should be free" thinking.
Microsoft offers their crumby OS for $200+, people complain, whine and cry over this. but it still sells because people the product. If you don't want to pay for it, don't buy it. Just because it is overpriced, that does not justify the action of taking something without paying for it
I think the whole "I'm not taking anything, I'm making a copy" falls into the "This is copyrighted, copies are not allowed" rule. As with artists that do not wish to have their work reproduced (or copied) the same applies for software. If you can not respect the work of an artists drawing/picture, I expect you'd feel the same about software.
Does that mean Batman is really the bad guy?
Batman goes out and takes the law into his own hands, instead of letting the cops know where/what is going on...he does it himself. Because he knows he can do a better and more effective job then the police.
It was the downloader's
1. time to begin with, they chose to make the download
2. Who really trusts downloaded illegal content anyway? Sue them for false advertising
3. The disk space was already planned out for using the illegal download, this "Trojan" probably saved them tons of space (since UT2004 is 6 CDs)
4. The bandwidth was already wasted in trying to get retail products for "free", it's the downloader's waste to begin with
5. time the downloader could of spent working for a paycheck to purchase the desired product...again, nothing wasted but the resources someone was using to distribute and use illegal products.
I don't stand up for it installing spyware, but if it just pops up a message with a black pirate flag and says you have been logged...the only thing that is harmed is the privacy of a criminal.
If they start using this information for blackmail...that is illegal!
Anyone else think that these personal comments at the end of news posts are irrelevant and should be marked -1 Redundant?
Of course this marks the start of a new trend, Red Hat just beat Mandrake to it. After the announcement last month about XFree86's license change and the very negative response for everyone, this was expected. It's only surprising because it happened so quick
I enjoy turn based statagy games a lot. In Fallout Tactics it has the option for real-time or turn-based, I always play the turn based which makes managing 6 solders much easier then trying to do 6 things at once.
NOT being turned based is what completely ruined Baulders Gate for me. It is a great game, but I can not manage 6 charactores doing 6 different things at once (telling you fighters to pull back as the mage is casting a fireball and the archers to target something else...all at once!)
And I still love the Heroes of Might and Magic games due to the turn based gameplay.
Disapointing? How so? It is identical to the Windows version...there are zero differences.
If you were disappointed with the 'Linux' version, most likely you were disappointed with the game in general...

But there is no way I'm paying $3000+ for one!!
No more harming then what Frank Zappa did to his children...

Now they did it...good thing they are not in France or they'd be called terrorists and taken to court
This is so cool! I'm signing up right after my labotomy!
Next thing you know AIM will be charging for the use of emoticons in their IMs...
Maybe Bill is trying to convince us that he's gone crazy and that we should trust Steve in leading us into the next digital revolution?

Anytime...anywhere
That and MS doesn't have a strangle hold on the OEMs anymore
It won't fail for HP because Linux has a much larger marketshare now then when Dell tried it 5 years ago.
