Check out the videos, first with Steve going through the test report and saying how shoddy it seems and the second he actually rocked up to the company who did the benchmark tests for Intel and interviews them.
The current crop of android phones from Motorolla are great and very good value for money. Now that Samsung's are POS due to their Andoid UI usability 'enhancements' I prefer Moto's by a mile.
Christ slashdot comments have become a pile of shit because of you. It's one thing to come in to a thread specifically about some bullshit gender politics and hear people whining about "the left" and "SJWs" ruining everything (and why don't well a just go back to the 50s where being white and male made one instantly higher status than anyone else because I live with my parent's and can't get a girlfriend and blah blah blah and millennial snowflakes whine too much!)...
But we can't even talk about hollywood making shitty movies and probably blaming it on piracy without a bunch of you fuckwits crawling out of the woodwork? Jesus Christ, fuck all of you.
Oh FFS, that is not what Feminism is about at all. Let me fix that for you:
According to feminism, maintaining a household, raising children are not considered to be a woman's job specifically. It's up to her as a *person* to decide, along with her partner how to work as a team and how to share work & responsibilities.
Honestly for a community who generally consider themselves rational and able to research stuff, there are an awful lot of uninformed idiots on slashdot these days especially when it comes to feminism. It's not that hard boys, it really isn't. SMH
Bullshit. I've worked with (and led) a lot of engineers over the past 2+ decades and many men & women. I have never needed to tiptoe around women in tech development groups. I've had drama with both women & men at about the same amount. Same for ability & effectiveness. The one difference I have found is that male engineers are much more likely to overestimate their competence than female engineers. This means if I have two engineers where everything else was equal except gender I think I'd tend to prefer working with the woman.
There are as many women as men on my mental short list of engineers that I've worked with and would call up if I were creating a dream team. Now, I have worked with 3-4x as many male engineers in my career so that also says something I think.
I'm wondering if maybe your experience says more about you and the way you treat women, than it says about the women you've worked with?
I find that Spotifys discover weekly is a great way to discover new music. Usually get a few songs I like from the list each week - sometimes a dozen. I then listen to each artists back catalog to see if I like anything else. Often I don't but sometimes I do, and 9 times out of 10 I've never heard of them.
I now have a 600+ song playlist after 6 months or so, containing none of my usual suspects - which I am generally bored of.
Now if only they would improve their Linux & Android apps!! But the breadth of music is really good.
Thank you for some sanity around here.
(I mean it's hardly a mystery worthy of Sherlock Holmes now is it, yet from what I can see it's confusing those with prejudiced starting points an awful lot)
I didn't want a smart TV and still don't want one. However I do have one. It was cheap and a really nice upgrade from the very old (and second hand) 32" CRT.
Watching netflix on it is nice, cos on Tivo it's horrible. I still would probably rather have a dumb TV though.
I've not bought a mainstream game all year (although I'm just about to buy the MI remake) whereas I've usually bout 5+ per year for the last 2 decades. Basically because there's been nothing I've wanted to play. Maybe I'm too old to be the target market for mainstream publishers now, but more and more I'm looking to indie games. Gonna buy the Penumbra trilogy which has just been released for Linux, another indie.
Heh, pretty much I guess, although I think of it more as priorities. You're quite correct that if I really wanted to get it working I would - never had anything beat me when I was determined. (just like any self respecting geek)
I was just looking for an easy step by step link because it's not important enough to me to prioritise over all the other stuff I have to do. At least I know it is possible, and maybe I'll find the time someday.
Well maybe I did, but I was working overtime at work, decorating the house most weekends & evenings and have a wife and three kids to attend to - so my lame excuse is time... I just couldn't justify any more time on it. I think I spent 30+ hours or thereabouts.
So, got a step by step link?;-)
Thanks for the reply Fulg, as I said I did get OSX up and running. It just broke when I tried to install the dev tools. Having invested a lot of time already, I gave up and I'll not be attempting it again unless there's a step by step guide including the dev tools.
I did try using a dedicated drive but the biggest spare I had was 8Gb which wasn't enough.
"You can build a cheap Intel box out of spare parts and run a hacked copy of Mac OS X on it."
You can? Care to give a link to some instructions from someone that's done it? See, I tried to do this about 6 months back. Managed to get OSX installed in a partition on my PC multibooting with XP & ubuntu, but as soon as I installed the iPhone dev kit the mouse stopped working. I can boot it and use the keyboard, but I can't seem to find any evidence that the dev kit was installed, although I've never used OSX before this so I'm not very familiar with the key shortcuts.
I had album covers disappearing before Jailbreaking my iPod, just with 1.4 firmware & iTunes 7.
Since jailbreaking I've not had and issues, but then I've not installed most of the crap out there. Mostly just a few games. (of which iZoo has got 99% of the usage)
hyades1,
I also get a lot of crashes with FF3. Usually find it's crashed when I get into work in the morning. (I leave my work PC on overnight)
It actually took out an hours work on a company wiki page that I forgot to save before being distracted by other more urgent things. Next morning it was gone because FF3 had crashed. Quite ironic that the main reason for upgrading for me was that FF2 used to balloon to 1Gb+ after running for a couple of weeks so I had to restart it every few days... seems this is now automatic.;-P
It's a real shame, I'm a lifelong gamer (Amiga->PC) and all three of these games are of interest to me and I'd most likely buy them if it were not for the DRM. Lets hope that some sense is seen before Spore is released, but I'll not hold my breath.
It really annoys me, because I often download cracked games to try, if I'm not sure whether I'll want to buy it. Two reasons for this, firstly demos are crap these days & I bought a couple of games on the strength of the demo which I was bored with shortly after, and secondly game reviews are completely worthless these days.
If I'm still enjoying the game after playing half of it, then it gets ordered from Amazon - otherwise it gets uninstalled. These games I'll not even download as there's no way I'm supporting this DRM on games with my money.
oodaloop, how about putting some reasoning behind "we are not anywhere near peak oil, nor are we going to begin running out of oil anytime soon, not in our lifetime not in our children's lifetime."
Excellent post. So many people miss the effect of societies respect for a profession - it's huge.
One of the reasons that UK schools find it hard to get good teachers... our society has respected them less and less over the past several decades.
I just got all my old space lego sets down from the loft and gave them to my 8 year old son for christmas. One of the sets is the large space explorer in the picture that I got at a similar age - kept that box for 28 years! Unfortunately there are a few pieces missing, but all the more recent sets were 99.9% complete and I intend to get hold of the bits we need for that memorable set.
We spent 2 days at Christmas time building which was a lot of fun. Happy Birthday Lego!
Exactly - spot on in a sea of FUD.
Mod parent up!!
(My father is a independent mortgage adviser who knows what he's talking about so I can say this for sure)
They agreed that they would lend anything up to a huge amount of money - IF Northern Rock needed it. This was a case of NR doing the diligent thing and covering the potential disaster, even though it wasn't sure, or even that likely. Turned out they wouldn't need the money, except the amount of dis-information and media scare mongering made it into a crisis. Read, understand, think, react!! Is that really so damn hard for the 99.9% of the population who seem to go: read, jump to conclusion, react?
It was and still is a very viable business, although it would be in a much better state without the tabloids and hysteria.
Check out the videos, first with Steve going through the test report and saying how shoddy it seems and the second he actually rocked up to the company who did the benchmark tests for Intel and interviews them.

Not much else needs saying, other than what a ridiculous move from Intel. How dumb do they think people are... oh, right. :-)
As far as I am concerned, wouldn't buy Intel before and double wouldn't buy em now.
The current crop of android phones from Motorolla are great and very good value for money. Now that Samsung's are POS due to their Andoid UI usability 'enhancements' I prefer Moto's by a mile.
Intel's business practices should be all you need to decide to support their competition.

A-fucking-men!
Jeez this guy thinks he got fired for starting a reasonable discussion. SMH.
I think this pretty much covers it for anyone who is confused why this was so controversial.

I've not used Pandora for 15 years (since it got restricted to US only) but I now find Spotify discover weekly is as good if not better.
I find that Spotifys discover weekly is a great way to discover new music. Usually get a few songs I like from the list each week - sometimes a dozen. Produce good games and I'll be a customer again!.
Thank you for posting a reasonable and rational summary. People who are so greedy like these studio execs make me want to believe in Hell !!
