    I'd assume the requirement it doesn't fit would be the "rocky, lunar-style landing site". I seriously doubt that even a heavily modified version of the "light the fuse, wait for it to burn out, then glide to earth" SpaceShip One would be suitable for the challenges of a lunar lander.

    Yes, but hypothermia still only covers 28% of the deaths. The majority are accounted for by other causes.

    Personally, I'm going to stay well away from any area with extreme cold temperatures where there's almost a 75% chance that I'll die from something other than the cold. Sure, I'm not likely to die in a plane crash while climbing a mountain on foot, but you can't be too careful!

    Bioware's good about asking permission from the mod developers too, and making clear what parts were from community modders. Thank goodness they changed the EULA from the horrid one that was floated before release, though.

    North America and South America are two continents. There is no continent of "America", though the two continents are sometimes referred to collectively as "The Americas".

    And, considering that the only way NASA gets any funding at all is by impressing politicians, and half of the decisions get forced on them by those same politicians in attempts to enrich the people who will get those politicians re-elected, and those politicians have been cutting funding for years while pumping incredible amounts into military spending... who are the hooligans taking the rest for the ride again?

    There are several monitoring programs you can use to control what you're talking about... You would probably want to look into keepalived (for basic monitoring of responses from the real servers) or lvs-kiss (for more in-depth monitoring of various stats).

    In a lot of cases, just using an algorithm that watches the number of connections on the servers will cover this... the swamped machine will end up with more pending connections, causing further requests to be balanced out to the other servers instead. Use one of the available monitors to fine-tune it and handle failing out a server if needed, and everything should be pretty balanced.

    If software is distributed with source code and no license or copyright notice, you have the right to do whatever you want with it.

    You may want to re-think that.. copyright is currently automatic in many countries, you do not necessarily need a copyright notice or license included in some cases. GPL software does indeed grant rights beyond the rights granted by default in the majority of situations.

    The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) said it was taking action against 33 UK net users accused of illegally sharing music.

    Somehow I get the image of an RIAA PR flunky cringing every time I see that. I mean, how are they possibly going to get their way if media outlets start using phrases like this? They should be using the safe, loaded names for it like "piracy"! At the very least, it should be "illegal copying" so it is related to something every schoolkid is taught to be wrong. Even preschool kids know sharing is supposed to be a good thing!

    And how many missions have those five craft flown on before this loss happened? Care to name a vehicle that has launched as many times as one of the shuttles with absolutely no incidents? (Not a type of vehicle, an individual vehicle. Apples to apples, and all that..)

    Overall, the shuttles have quite a good record considering the use they're put to and the fact that we still have a lot to figure out about spaceflight. Their record has been good enough that a good portion of the glamour and risk of spaceflight has vanished.

    If we can come up with a better, safer design (and convince Congress to stop cutting NASA's budget and actually fund them enough to build that design) then sure, that'd be better. But going completely back to the drawing board at this point and forgetting space flight until that design is built would likely kill the space program at this point.

    Guns don't (yet) have DMCA-style laws.

    Your "enterprising youth" had better have some solid legal funding... he would be hit with a lawsuit for trafficking a device to circumvent copyright protection in the blink of an eye.

    The case might be just what would be needed to finally neuter the DMCA, but only if he was able to fight it out. Even then, it would depend heavily on what mix of judges he got. And, since the broadcast flag rules specify that devices have protection against that kind of tampering, it would be pretty clear that he was directly breaking those rules... he'd be setting himself up against the movie industry, TV broadcasters, *and* the FCC all in one shot.

    Odd.. I'm currently at a little over 20M, with four tabs open. And I've been using the browser constantly for the last 12 hours, opening and closing new tabs and browsing all over the place.

    This is on 1.0.. I don't have a lot of extensions installed, but there's an RSS reader and gmail checker constantly running. What version are you running?

    It's interesting to that a number of manufacturers are putting out glowing press releases about their involvement with this, including Transmeta. There's a bit more information on Transmeta's site about the actual specs of the wearable system itself.

    And, yes, it can run Linux.

    There's another rather large difference. Typically, the victims of identity theft are having money directly stolen from them and credit cards taken out in their names. Their identity is *literally* being stolen, as credit agencies and banks lose trust in that individual. Recovering from identity theft can take large amounts of time and money, and there can easily be effects that cannot be erased.

    Copyright violation, on the other hand, usually only deprives the copyright holder of something they didn't have and may not have gotten anyways.

    And, frankly, the only reason I rationalize copyright violation at all is because of the media industry's attempts to put things that obviously *aren't* copyright violations into the same category of actions. What I do with my legally purchased media within the privacy of my own home is my own business as long as I'm not giving copies out to other people, thank you very much.

    You can, however, pan around to an area and then get directions to or from the center of the section that is on-screen. Or even get an area on-screen and search for businesses near that area.

    It would be nice to specify a spot for the directions, but once you know about this bit it's not so bad. I'm more concerned about the pizza places that were put in the wrong locations when I searched for them in my area, but then moved to the right places when I got directions..
