Apple seems to be a good job of predicting (if not causing) future trends - first mainstream computer with a 3 and a half inch floppy, first PC to ELIMINATE the floppy (original iMac), and now first computer to get rid of the CD altogether (Macbok Air)
If zero is a fraction, then yes, companies WILL pay you just a fraction of what you are worth Interns = Free Labor in many (But not all) organizations.
Could be worse - my first programming language was APL (yes, THAT APL). Believe it or not, that was the programming language that my high school tought back in 1979.
The Martian Chronicles was a school reading assignment in 6th or 7th grade - that book really fired my imagination and got me into science fiction for the first time. Of course, that was the early 70s when it looked like we would have people on mars by the 90s so the book seemed a bit more "realistic" than it might today.

I agree. And, i was always turned off by the clip art of the 22 year old hipsters on the covers of that series.
I'm in the same age bracket as you - I still watch TV, but havent watched commercials in years. When a commercial comes on, I just change the channel and watch something else for a few minutes.
I have both Dell and Mac laptops - the dell gets replaced every 2 years, while my Apple laptop has lasted 4 (without any upgrades). Need to have the complete picture.
Huh? The reason they would move jobs back to the US is because the products would actually become CHEAPER to make here, versus make there and ship. Thats a win-win. Welcome to the USA, the new third world country.
As one of hundreds of thousands of former Pittsburghers living in "Exile" due to the lack of jobs in our once fair city, this is welcome news indeed! Too bad I don't think it will ever come to fruition - the former steel mills are either vacant, contaminated lots or cheesecake factories and movie theatres. The infrastructure just isn't there to bring back a steel industry in any meaningful way without spending billions and billions (then again, thats the cost of just a couple days in Iraq....)
Mod parent up as funny/sarcastic! I assume you mean that most slashdot readers DO program their own rules and run their own smtp servers. At least a good many of them....
Since Seinfeld always had a Mac on his desk in his show. In fact, if you look closely he had the latest model new Mac every year.

Yes. Yes it was.
The Microsoft Library has a copy. Although it is currently checked out.
No, the inhabitants of Legoland are minifigs. It was a typo.
Moon Landing 1969. Fakes are nothing new.

That explains how New England lost!
Hmmm my car cost $36,000 yet I wear $25 dollar shoes from DSW. Guess it's a matter of priorities.
Average salary for programmer - $60k/yr. Avereage salary for city bus driver - $100k/yr. I'm not sure I would encourage anyone to go into programming.

Not really - if you are wardriving looking for Chryslers!
Only one problem with that - there ARE no more mills. The "good news" is about 20-30 years too late.

Not to mentione the Red New England Patriots losing to the Blue New York Giants in the Superbowl.
Buy him a Wii - and get him OUT of the chair!
