From an academic point of view I can quote say Encyclopadia Brittanica article on the charango from the 1995 edition.
Is it possible for me to date my wikipedia references in the same way? Particularly when the articles *are* likely to change often, and the review process before publication ('changes are visible immediately' comes up when I have a go at editing) is just not there.
For finding out about stuff wikipedia is fine - but I would prefer to quote something which has been published and can be got at 10 years later for review.
Yes, I realize this is the way things are done in this country, however I don't see music as a necessity of life, do you?
Well many things the state pays for or contribute towards are not a neccesity of life. University Education, trains and railways, Christmas lights in the city centre, armoured tanks, space shuttles and submarines. But they enhance the quality of life if not directly for you than for society in general. Without state funding and grants for many of the projects, there would be many artists across many fields - performing and visual arts - in the UK who would just never get a chance to show what they are capable of. And yes although music is a commercial beast some of the bodies have begun to realise that record companies don't develop bands any more, and seeing how music is a top UK export, its important to keep the grassroots side of it going.
Also Al Gore was closer to Ralph Naders ideals than Kerry was - he was certainly deeply committed to the environment. It does seem like the result of Naders actions last time has resulted in a huge body blow to how he himslf wants America to be.
The only reason why this should be modded down is that the Anonymous Coward should have written 'First Past the Post'. What a great opportunity missed.
Though as last time showed, the USA does not have a first past the post system, so maybe not.
But watching Blown Away always makes me feel hungry. The Banged Grains aren't enough so I always end up going to Harga's House of Ribs. Even though its in a different multiverse.
Half-Life 2 (DVD ROM) is whats advertised on Amazon.co.uk - is there a seperate collectors edition as well as this one? I haven't seen one on CD install over here in the UK.
Getting nothing happening when I try this in Opera - I don't know if this is my Opera not doing anything (but it still doesn't crash) or if/. has broken the site. Revenge is sweet!!!!
A mobile going off is not like coughing or sneezing - its more like someone getting up and humming a TV theme song.
And when it goes off in class it usually takes 20 seconds to be turned off as the person hunts around in their bag to find the stupid thing in the first place.
When I was lecturing I had a simple if your phone goes off it gets confiscated until the end of the lecture policy - after week one of that noone left it on.

Everyone talks about the "movie theater experience", but I just don't get it. Other than bigger and louder, the theater experience just is not as good to me.
Yes, but when you see Reloaded at the Imax theatre you can check out Monica Bellucci's 60 foot wide breasts!!!!
The only previous mention I'd heard of them being made from water comes from a short story I read ages ago... plot was something along the lines of 'Mars is Short of water as earth is withholding it from the mars inhabitants, but then a martian exhibition comes back with water from Saturn and tables are turned'. Any idea which story and author? I suspect its an Asimov jobby.
What happens next time I bring a lady in with me and we sit up the back an eh... you know... do the things that slashdot never told you about... can this see us then?

I already have a job but I'm looking for a gf if any ladies are reading this in Perth West Australia. I am not pathetic.
Why not worry about that when you get to it? Anyway this is in North America, though they have the night vision goggles now over here in the UK as well. And I'm sure there would be anyone with a criminal element in their blood in Australia who would do such a thing anyway;-)

If they were carrying a 'Hello Kitty' torch they could blame it on Doom 3. Except the game wasn't out when the crime was committed.

And sitting in Newton's chair no less. Go figure.
Newton had an electric wheelchair with a speech synthesiser? Man, that guy was way ahead of his time.
If I don't want to use the Windows in the office I can just pull down the blinds and turn on the air conditioning.
Well a very good friend of mine already has a 10-disc set with all the Matrix films on....

I would also recommend Dark City for a different take on the alternate reality thang.

Aaaah, but we have a wide range of crooks here, and the French ones take some beating not that Inspector Clouseau is not hunting them down.
Oh. I see you have Dick Cheney.
