    The studios delay the DVD releases because they will cannibalise cinema profits. They don't seem to understand that this means that, given the choice, people would rather watch the DVD than go to the cinema. In any sane business, this would mean that they'd release the DVD first, giving their customers what they want. Instead, they intentionally don't give customers what they want and then blame piracy for their profits being lower than they want.

    Cinema is dead... it just hasn't realised it yet... personally, I only "pirate" DVDs that I intend to buy when they hit the bargain bin, or I already own and want a backup digital copy for convenience & safety... I've already lost several irreplaceable DVDs thanks to actions of my grandkids and other handling mishaps... (so much for being indestructible)... so find it's far easier to play the .avi file off the netbook via the HDMI cable to the telly when the kids are involved...

    Hopefully the devs working on Unity and Gnome realize that end users just want customization.

    fat chance of that... they've been working to remove means of customisation from the user for a long time now... basically, it's the Gnome way, or else find something else instead...

    and because of Cleanfeed, the content locker service Oron is useless to UK residents because Oron thinks all requests are coming from one IP and therefore, every month, that proxy IP hits its maximum download limit in a matter of minutes and is useless for the remainder of the month...

    Out of interest what is the legal definition of tailgating in most jurisdictions like? Is it simply driving close enough to the vehicle in front that you can't dependebly stop if they stop suddenly? or is it driving closer than some arbitary distance set by the governement for a given speed? does it vary by jurisdiction?

    in the UK, it is recommended to maintain a two-second gap between your vehicle and the one in front.

    so theoretically you could program the software to check that there is more than two seconds in between one vehicle passing a point and the next

    is that the download is forced via the Android Market... my table doesn't have Android market... it has AppsLib... when I try and go via the android market, I get a snotty message about there being no android phones associated with this account (my gmail account is shown)... OF COURSE THERE ARE NO ANDROID PHONES ASSOCIATED WITH THE ACCOUNT... it's a fsking tablet... not a phone... and my manufacturer has been stupid and not put Android Market on it...

    I'm unsure how anyone could have imagined that the on-screen keyboard for the $79 model would be touch.

    This is a MASSIVE fail... my palm m105 from years ago had touch in conjunction with "cursive" stroke recognition and an on-screen keyboard... this eReader not having touch and also using an onscreen keyboard which has to be navigated using nudges on the "controller" is just so brain-dead as a concept... people will NOT be impressed by it at all... I had been considering getting one to replace my old Palm Tungsten E which I used to use extensively for reading ebooks until the battery started to conk out and not hold charge for long leaving me tethered to the wall outlet...

    so the shopping centre can say "look at what we're doing for the environment"... completely ignoring the energy and pollution costs of making these tiles... we have one of those energy recovery plates in the entrance drive to Sainsbury's in Gloucester... they claim the energy from the cars goes into powering the checkouts.. pure greenwash to make the customers feel slightly happier about the fact they've driven to the store... and effectively they're stealing the energy from the customers as the cars are slowed by the plate... they'd have far more effect on the environment by making it harder to drive to the store and easier to use public transport and bicycles etc. to do the shopping with... PS. the one in Gloucester is positioned in a bad place where people are actually accelerating OUT of a corner into a straight... to be friendly to the customers, it should have been positioned just before a bend to reduce the braking needed

    Forcing users to give up functionality by running Linux is exactly what MS wants. They want Linux to be a less capable, less desirable alternative.

    Exactly... they want to be able to lock Linux users out of seeing the premium content that will ONLY be viewable on a machine that has been booted and verified as secure to play premium content via their key mechanism... there's even a TPM block shown in the graphic on the article. Don't forget that as far as Microsoft are concerned, their customers aren't the end users, but the film and recording publishers... we're the product... eyeballs delivered to watch the premium content

    What I loved about TOS was how they commented on social issues of the time such as race with the two guys, one black and white and the other white and black fighting each other over a stupid cosmetic difference claiming the other was inferior... they also broke many boundaries on the role of women and also in using a coloured female comms officer who was highly respected by the remainder of the crew... not a hint of any prejudice amongst them... plus they took risks with the costumes as well... The futility of war was also explored with the dis-integrator booths where people were assessed as casualties in a simulated interplanetary nuclear war and ordered to report to the booths

Just watch Microsoft start their little tricks to get OOXML manddated in UK Government because it's an ISO standard... a standard which is impossible to implement by third parties because of the legacy backwards compatibility required by the binary blobs that they were able to get away with and an ISO standard which should never have been accepted in the first place if it hadn't have been for Microsoft's behind the scenes shenanigans in perverting national standards bodies.
