    Streamripping produces a perfect copy of what was "transmitted" which can be copied perfectly ad infinitum. Recording off the radio onto tape produces a lower fidelity analog copy and subsequent generations of copying of that copy introduces more noise at each generation.

They could drag just about anybody into "court" for this and get them to account for every media file on their computer... nobody who's had a computer for any period of time would be innocent here... everybody does it... anyone who says they don't is a liar... what we need are switched on jurors to do their duty and return not guilty verdicts...

    I have a six year old Logitech TrackMan Marble FX... It has a "drag" button on it (the small red one just by the middle button) I have never been able to get it to "drag". Does yours have a working "drag" button?

    And they were still able to strip your contact details out and replace them with their own... Foxit PDF Editor & PDFedit. There's several others out there as well...

    TFT backlights are still on even if entire page is white text on black... they only go off when energy savings kick in and turn the display off.

    using a different ebay doesn't work... stuff gets taken down on those for the same reasons. A friend on mine has had to give up selling his replica Fender Bass guitar as every time he lists it, it gets taken down. He's not mis-selling it, he actually describes exactly what it is, a Replica Fender Bass made from Warmoth parts... he believes the problem is Fender has people policing ebay looking for what they consider trademark abuse... and he's falling foul of them as he's got a genuine Fender logo on the headstock...

    the annoying thing is that they aren't going after the real fakes... the ones that people are actually misrepresenting as actual vintage Fenders.

    It'd be better to encourage folks with huge buy-to-let portfolios to divest themselves of all those spare houses to get some balance back into the housing market. Then maybe folks could afford houses in London again (that aren't next to crack houses or crime blackspots) and people wouldn't have to commute so far or indenture themselves to the banks for the next 25 years.

    blame Gordon Brown for that... when he started raiding the pension funds, those who could got their money out and got into buy-to-let... those who got in on the ground floor are raking it in now. Leaving the rest of us with worthless company pension schemes...

    they have no case... doctrine of "Unclean Hands"... they should not be allowed to proceed in court otherwise they will be profiting from their own crime.


    Could you imagine a burglar suing the manufacturer of surgical gloves because they tore and left fingerprints at the scene? or a rapist suing the condom manufacturer because it had a hole in it and let semen through thus leaving DNA for forensics to find?

    Sony raped peoples computers and got caught... unfortunately they were allowed off with a pathetic slap on the wrist. The Execs responsible should have been jailed for it. And now they want to use the rootkit supplier???

    How about a machine running Tivo-style Linux (so you can't mess with the software) that lets the user pick one out of several choices, then prints a receipt and says "Does the receipt match the screen?". It's /not/ /that/ /hard/.

    even then, there's no guarantee that the vote actually got registered correctly... if they fudge the vote just enough to avoid flagging it up, then they can easily steal the entire election with just a few votes here, a few votes there in the constituencies that matter... they're not going to attempt to steal "safe" constituencies, just ones where the incumbent only has a very narrow majority... the machines that do the tabulation matter, not the actual machines in the voting booths... As Stalin famously said, it who gets to count the votes that has the power...

    pilots use degrees yes, however, the software in the navigation computers is using radians... and there's all sorts of conversion shenanigans going on between different units communicating with each other... you may find this hard to believe, but the system I'm currently working on transmits position from the GPS to the Inertial navigation unit in radians, between the INU and the navigation computer in degrees, internally in the navigation computer, all calculations are done in radians, it is displayed in degrees to the pilot on his multi function displays, but transmitted to the Head up display in radians and yet again displayed there in degrees...

    they keep repeating this everytwhere they go... "Open XML"... their format is not Open... it's closed off with licensing and other restrictions... all the really good stuff in the specification has been obfuscated out and hidden behind indirections to the behaviour of legacy apps that only microsoft know the real ins and outs of... not only that, there's still an easy means for them to merely use XML as a wrapper for binary blobs...

    to give it a proper name, the format is "Microsoft Open Office XML", they deliberately went to a lot of trouble to pick a name that's as easily to confuse as possible with OpenOffice
