You need to hold on the power button to do a hard power off. It should take about 3-4 seconds and then just power off. It took me by surprise when they started doing that too. Hope that helps.
You know back in the day, we had a light on the front of the case that indicated when the hard was being read. It was used as a way of determining when the computer was really locked or was just slow as hell -- waiting on IO. After a while a person wouldn't even look at the light, but learned to listen for the drive.
Nowadays there is no light on many cases, and the drive noise is all that is left -- when you can hear it.
I mean, how the hell else am I suppose to know when Winblows is thrashing or the lastest game has locked?
Anyhow, am I the only one that finds a computer's white-noise calming and smoothing?
P.S -- Why the hell don't many newer cases come with a fucking proper reset button!
It is in 1.3 dumbass. Go to Edit Bookmarks -> Bookmarks -> New SmartBookmark or is that too fucking hard for you. You can also just import your old bookmarks.
And no I'm not going to apologize for swearing at this dumb mother fucker for posting ignorance.
While it didn't scare me enough to run the other way, the game is completely immersive.
I would tense up upon entering a room and hearing Space Pirates near by. Going through the phazon mines the first time is nerve racking.
Of course a large part of this is all because of the amount of detail put into the helmet and visors. When I first saw Aran's own reflection in the visor from an incoming missle, I just about shit my pants.
Also, the music in the game really sets a mood. If we are going to talk about FPSs and their ability to draw a person in -- Metroid Prime is hands down the best.
I'd say that if they want to see your credit report to tell if you are more likely to steel or be troublesome. That you should be able to request their credit report.
It is only fair with the recent downfall of many companies. Not to mention those companies abusing their employees and stockholders all the way down.
I'm checking Mplayer's CVS tree and I don't see it. Mind pointing me to where you found their plugin? Google turns up webfreetv links and half mailing-list discussions.
Regarding past attempts at startup notification. No I don't think they are talking about the KDE equivalent. They are most probably talking about Xalf. I library that you set in your LD_PRELOAD variable, that allowed startup notification on all sorts of apps, not just Gnome, IIRC.
I thought Xalf was pretty cool and would make a point of installing it if my distro didn't. And most distros probably didn't because there would always be an odd application or two that for some reason or another wouldn't load with it. Eventually, nobody maintained it for 2.0 and it was drop so far as I know.
It's good to see some application notification is back in 2.2.
First off, I want to say I agree the XBox is a technically superior system. But this doesn't matter for the following reasons.
All the other systems have Dolby 5.1 capability, it just depends on if the games support it.
The network adapter and built-in hard drive don't mean swat because nobody will be taking full advantage of them until the other two consoles get them. Hold on, I'll justify why.
It is because XBox is no where near #2 -- worldwide. It may very well be #2 in the USA, but with Japan's big gaming market, that doesn't mean dick. Take a look at the hardware console charts half way down the page.
http://www.the-magicbox.com/topten.htm
XBox is holding less than %5 the total market. And remember the GameCube came out 5 or 6 months after the XBox and holds around %15. Not many gaming companies are going to develope a game that utilizes the hard drive and network adaptor exclusively for the XBox. The market just isn't there.
Hell, last year somewhere around 300-400 games came out for the PS2 -- remember all the Japaneese stuff we don't see. And only 68 for the XBox. Not to mention all the PS1 games that are still being produced.
If you still don't believe me on the numbers search for the lastest sales annoucements from Sony, Ninetendo, and Microsoft on last years consoles. I don't remember Ninetendo's but Sony was around 50 million units and Microsoft around 8 million.
Hell, most developers still make XBox games that look like ass and by the time they figure out how to take advantage of that hardware, the PS3 will be out.
For those of you that don't follow Western religion and even for you slackers that do, but don't read much. A cubit is a commonly referred to method of measurement in the Bible. Generally thought to be the length from the tip of a man's middle finger to the tip of his elbow.
He's helped all of us programmers, system administrators, and consultants earn more by adding substantially to our customer base. More computer users means more of a market for computer experts like all of us.
You are right, he is a saint. Hell, I bet the whole time he was thinking about how he could create more jobs and push forward the computer industry.
Oh, wait, he probably couldn't hear himself think with the sound of his hands shoving fists full of fucking money down his pants left and right. All the while insanely cackling his head off.
You know, everyday I hear "computer experts like all of us" thank the Lord for the blessing that is AOL. It really has made the Internet better. I remember the years shortly after AOL came onto the scene, how the Internet started to read my mind by changing each one of my searches for information into porn. And where would spamming and online-chat be without AOL.
I know the porn industry has a lot to thank AOL for, but that is about it -- grow up.
Anybody who has studied early Christianity knows that there were two groups. The Apostlics and the Gnostics.
The two of the many differences being that
1)Apostlic Christianity is more along the lines of what is present today. A hierarchy within a church structure. Example -- I believe (don't quote me) that Catholics have a Pope, then Cardinals, then Bishops, Deacons, etc. with power decreasing further down the line.
2) As I said Apostlic Christianity believes in the apostles, Jesus son of god, etc. like the majority of Christians believe today.
The Gnostics on the other hand
1) Have no hierarchy whatsoever. It doesn't matter if you have been a member for 5 minutes or 50 years, your opinion and input are equal. It doesn't matter if you are adult/child, young/old, man/woman, your opinion and input are equal.
2) They also had many other writtings, of which many came earlier than what people have in there bibles, and took a completely different point of view with the teachings of Jesus. BTW, I will not argue whether he existed or not -- for the sake of arguement let's assume he did. They heard what he said to mean that, and I'm really summermizing here, this world is a fake and rather unplesant. It is presented by a quasi-god(not the devil) and that Jesus came to tell everyone to wake up so they can return to heaven(not as people picture it now) and stop the suffering of which we were all accidently placed.
The Gnostics were actually a much larger group after Jesus, but failed to become the present day Christianity because of the Romans declaring the Apostlic Christianity the one true Christianity because they had a hierarchy similar to the Romans. After all when you hold a meeting to discuss the matter, who from the Gnostics will represent them? They are all equal.
Now, many Christians when they have this first explained to them take the demi-god to be the devil and that sounds an awful lot like what this "Dark Material" story is going for. I don't know, I haven't read it. But if it is a source of material. I find it funny that any Christian who gets upset, is getting upset over a common believe about a misunderstanding of the Gnostic CHRISTIANITY religion by Apostlic CHRISTIANITY that has been turned into a story.

Okay, I know what a CAD program is but what is a DCC application?

Preach preacher.
Right on!

This sounds familiar, would you mind spelling out what it is in reference to?
Thanks

Jesus man, I don't know if it is because I'm tired, but that was so fucking funny it hurt.
I think I speak for the majority of slashdotters who aren't EE majors when I say -- WTF?
All and all it was a good attempt.
After this crap, I'm not supporting SciFi on shit. I don't think I'm the only one.

Thanks a ton man. I can't believe Google didn't pick this up and that there is no mention on Mplayer's site.
I'll be fine from now on.
I'm checking Mplayer's CVS tree and I don't see it. Mind pointing me to where you found their plugin? Google turns up webfreetv links and half mailing-list discussions.

What is your problem Timothy? Did you root my box or something and now think it is funny to post links on /. to things I'm 50% thru downloading?
;P
First the Animatrix thing and now this crap.
One of these days I'm going to bump into you at a convention or something, and beat the shi^H^H^H cookies out of you.
Where did you get version 0.34 of the plugin? I only see version 0.1 available.
Being that you are emotionally involved, no you wouldn't know better. He is still right. ;P
No, he is right.
Did they just seriously link to a page that easily allows the blocking of all banners on Slashdot and other sites?
If you can't call this website sucide, I don't know what you can call it.
BTW, for Galeon users, check your preferences under "Rendering" to add a CSS and check the box "Apply by Default" to use the adblocking CSS.
