I haven't found on TFA , but then again i read it on a rush because my boss was in the room, but i guess they performed the test the way most regular users use a personal firewall.
This means press install, press next, next, next, next, OK and done I have my own personal protection!
If you take the time to tune the software firewall, i'm pretty sure you would have much better results.
well, if you are really looking for some fun in the wrong club at the wrong time you're not really concerned about protection! you'll probably just play with the odds that nothing wrong is going to happen...
That depends on what you consider investment
you could get some money out of it renting it for parties perhaps, opening a LAN-House, or even better you could build a hyper-resolution arcade with it and resell it with profit!
It all depends on how much you see opportunity where others see entertainment....
Maybe, and remember, just maybe, this spending of money will produce as side effects a lot of new technologies.
And sometimes, again, just sometimes, things such as researches work as a chain of events in a way that we can't see the results until they are already upon us:
take for instance this to this this
And Ta-DA!! We have NASA's technology reducing poverty in the world! Isn't science marvelous!?
Unless he's trying to get into USA as an american citizen, I don't see why a german would like to pass as an american in any other place in the world, considering that, unfortunattely, american people are the favorite target of terrorists around the planet.
Of course there's the "I told you so" factor, just to prove that he could do it, but anyways we all knew that this E-passport thing wouldn't take much time to be proved wrong, i guess we just didn't know that it would be that fast!
I remember when an old friend told me back at school that he had the ultimate anti-copying technology ! He said let's go back to the vinyl discs! I remember that i laughed my heart out back then, but everyday now I wonder what would the market become if he's right? Not to mention the users...
Does that mean then that I should buy a palmtop instead of a diamond ring to my girlfriend when we decide to get married?
I'm pretty sure that I'll enjoy the present as well! Not to mention that it's way more useful than a ring unless, of course we're talking about this ring
I don't know about the rest of the slashdotters, but from the experience i got from college i would get some books on the matter before attending any kind of training. I know this is not the quickest way out, but is the thorough way, and believe me sometimes in IT doing it right is much more important than doing it quickly.
There's so much good stuff available for free on the internet that i can't even point out where exactly you can start, that depends on what you want to learn first
But, anyhow, if budget is not a problem in your job, as it is in my, you could still benefit from some by-yourself studying before you face some formal training.
And to think that Microsoft decided not to launch the Xbox 360 in Brazil because of the high piracy rates! What they probably don't know is that most of the pirate products selling there comes from China ! Not to mention a lot of hacking techniques that comes from china on how to hack their systems found freely available on the internet.
So what does that mean now?
It means two things, piggy:
first it means that the US government can now hold someone( ICANN in this case) responsible for what happens in the internet
and second the government can now concentrate their efforts on how to tax it!
Bombs away!!! ICANN you're next!
The thing is...
how can you, and the RIAA, be sure that the mp3 you're downloading comes from a person that actually owns the cd just the way you do??
In this case the issue is more about sharing the files than getting them . If you are sharing your files to anyone that may not own the CD, you're probably on RIAA's black list as well!
just a thought....
What about the evil force that bogs down the internet??
I'm pretty sure that if we could eliminate all the PORN of the servers we wouldn't use half the bandwidth available on the internet!
But then again what use could we make of so much bandwidth on our hands??
Hooray for the opposable thumbs!!
What about the slashdotters that are not american, you insensitve clod!?
We'll probably enjoy much more watching it dubbed by the same guy who dubbed the animated series!
Our aim is to use the computer to understand better how the brain works [...] and to see if biology can help us see how to build computer systems that continue functioning despite component failures
Wait a minute! He wants to study new computer networks topologies and the human brain at the same time?? Make up your mind, dude! You're either a computer engineer or a brain surgeon! Leave some research material for the rest of us!!
But seriously now, I'm not an artificial inteligence specialist but don't neural networks algorithms already give us a pretty good idea on how to be fail safe based on our central nervous system?
I don't know about you, but it seems we have another scientist with too much unjustified budget with a deadline!
Putting on this perspective of abundance, could we say that entertainment, present here as movie DVDs, be a practical example of Giffen goods ??
I mean, if netflix decides, hypothetically, to lower their monthly fee, would consumers get more or less interested on movies they are not watching anyway.
Any comments from economy geeks ?
Do you know the disaster recovery plans of your offshore services provider? Are their plans integrated with yours? And how prepared are these providers?
yeah ! Let's make a back up of our chief engineer's brain, just in case he gets blown to pieces, you insensitive clod!
I guess we can reformulate the theorem to:
Two billion chinese hitting keys at random on their computers for a month or so, eventually one of them will almost surely break your code!
Well, I'm pretty sure I could write pages and pages listing the good things the cold war brought to the world, but i guess nobody would take the time to read them so im gonna list just a few: Communication sattelites, anti-flame clothing, orthodontic appliances, arterial measuring devices, Heart's pacemaker, smoke detectors, better airplanes engines, GPS, weather forecast, not to mention our good old internet...
if they can get youtube's Audio and Video to synch again that's good enough for me!

Really, we're supposed to believe the study had exactly 49 participants? Not 50, or 150?
Pssst, there were 150 participants, but 101 of them died.
Or they got kicked out of the research because they got HIV in a night on the town celebrating that they were now immune to AIDS!
well, if you are really looking for some fun in the wrong club at the wrong time you're not really concerned about protection! you'll probably just play with the odds that nothing wrong is going to happen...
...And after all that your post got to be rated as interesting??
your post should be rated as SAD

Easy to police two, just the bear population. Unless they are considered terrorists too?
That depends on your level of paranoia...
for example: " What do we got here ?"
Should we buy the Teddy bear in order to stop terrorism? Or Should we stop funding those terrorists bears?
Not to mention the opinion of one of america's top minds: Colbert on Bears
Just to add some information to the post ( and to share a good book ).
There's a really good book about this story: How the Irish Saved Civilization

"Auf wiedersehn, Herr Optimus Roboter"
