Very interesting about the downtime on tuesday. Xbox live (service and site) were also down for scheduled maintenance. Wonder if they are going to start playing nicer together soon.
That sounds great, but Apple and MS are BOTH are both in a situation where they cannot do that. Well, they could but apple would basically lose iTunes (or at least the majority of the tunes that make up iTunes). MS would lose whatever service they are pushing today. That xbox video marketplace would evaporate like a fart in the wind. Hell, the media companies might love for them to do it. Push us back to buying CD's or piracy (where the RIAA lawsuit machine can make up the difference).
In the case of Crackdown there are loads of billboards all around the city. They used to have adverts for dodge trucks. Last night I noticed that some of them were for Intel. I thought it was pretty slick, to be honest.
Both? When I said office 97-2k3 I was refering to Office 97, Office XP, and Office 2003. It seemed more appropriate to use 'all' instead of 'both' in this case.
Yeah, when you have hundreds or thousands of documents.
The poster I replied to mentioned he had to install office to "send some documents". I'm pretty sure that "send some documents" does not mean that he wants to convert and send "hundreds of thousands" of documents. For this user I am quite sure that the "save as" function would have worked quite well, and he admits as much in a followup message.
Compatibility pack?! You're killing me. You have to install an extra in order to make MS Office compatible with MS Office?
Is it that unreasonable to have to update older versions of a product to consume newer versions of file formats? I mean if I grabbed a copy of mosaic from 1990 I don't think it would do a very good job of displaying PNG files, would it? Or CSS. Or modern HTML. (much like the IE of today, HAHA). It would require a *gasp* update.
You save a doc in 2000 format, and suddenly 97 can no longer open it. Save it in 2003 and 2000 can't open it. And so on. A customer/vendor/friend sends you a doc file, and you can't open it. Time to upgrade!
You're misinformed. All versions of office from 97-2k3 can open each others files with no need to do anything special when saving or loading.
I'll bite, then. I have a Wii (camped for it with my 10 year old daughter). I spent more time in the line than I have playing the system. I have zelda, monkey ball, and (of course) sports.
I bought monkey ball for the GC on the day that system launched and still play it on occasion. The Wii version, using the new controller, was a royal PITA. Sports was moderately fun. Zelda pissed me off becuase it looked worse than windwaker (trying to do realistic instead of stylized on underpowered hardware is a huge mistake, IMP) and had irritating platform jumping. It just wasn't fun:/
With all of that said, I know I am in the minority here.
Holy shit, you're busy! How many "omfg m$ buys awards" posts do you have in the comments section of this article now?
Not sure what they hell they are thinking that plan is going to accomplish, but they seem to be completely focused on it.
Assuming that this award/review buying is true (it's not, I have he game, it is very good) then I can tell you exactly what the plan was. To sell 3 million copies, silly!
Huh? Nintendo came out said (and proved through actions) that the Wii was not about graphics, but gameplay. Why should it be a surprise that Epic took that to heart and decided not to invest in getting it's latest engine to run on underpowered hardware?
And really, is this a loss for Epic or Nintendo? If a killer game comes out using unreal 2 I think I'd still buy it.
There is nothing particularly sad about the extinction of a species, really. It's been going on for billions of years and it will continue well after we, ourselves, are extinct.
I hope the fact that you are supposed to hold locations stops folks from camping the spawn point.

It's posts like this which make me glad you don't live in the USA!
Heh, yeah, that would be annoying.

I actually started playing Final Fantasy IV while waiting for day to change to night and eventually just turned the game off.
Um, next time try using the 'wait' command. Hit the back button. It'll go by quicker than the boot screens for FF IV.
I call bullshit. The speed on GA-400 never gets above 5-10MPH. Unless it's 3AM, and in that case you just pass the jackass in the right hand lane.
The cop did.

Why? Is saving as "Word 97-2003" document difficult?
Also, folks using Word 2000 and later can use the new formats with a compatibilty pack
Then let's settle into a nice discussion about how vista sucks because it's more of the same and office 2007 sucks because it's not more of the same.

Only a bastion of fine news reporting like slashdot can say something like this without sounding pretentious.
Uh, doubt it. Perhaps "query".
Amen. This was the huge one for me.
I'll go out on a limb Slasdotters 2008: Open office now has the ribbon interface! Cool!
Doesn't seem like they really want to take them to court.

Pretty much. Half dollars, though, were actually 40% silver from 1965-1969. You can still pick these up in circulation on rare occasions.

There is nothing new about strncpy().
I hate to feed a troll, but you decided on whether or not you liked a game by WATCHING someone play it?
