Jesus, a lot of people do security, why does he think he understands all of them ? It's another branch of computer science - not being James Bond. In fact I went into security after college because of the allure, but in fact the daily things that have to be done are not that glamorous, and have little to do with his strange psychological theories. And I agree, the book is overrated.

I find it hard to believe that CMU is going to do a better job building a robot tank than industry. Did the academics develop the predator ? No.

  11. Re:Simple (sort of) solution: on The Evolving Face of Credit Card Scams · · Score: 5, Insightful

True, but the fact of the matter is that people DO get into debt more when they use credit cards. But maybe one way to look at this is that a credit card is a easy way to get a short high interest loan, and people are fine with that. On the other hand, most people don't treat it that way and it turns into a long term high interest loan. So it is sort of psychological reasons that get people into trouble. Many people are not disciplined enough to do what you recommend.

A lot of people gamble and get into trouble because of bad judgement. It's sort of like that. Basically a lot of adults act like kids, and you have to expect that as the norm.

Also, my bank still uses those old CRT tubes and they are hard to read, so they really need to upgrade the whole thing. Anyway I went into the bank to sit and talk to a representative about this, and I was reading a DC comic, and the light next to me was flickering. Damn that AC current! I took out my laptop, since I wanted to learn more about CSS style sheets. (Are they under the GPL license btw ?) After about 5 minutes of reading I had a headache - I felt like an ICBM missile had hit my head! Or maybe it was from my LCD display. What I need is a vacation I thought - so I went home and started to pack my SCUBA gear.
