That said, OS X kernel panics are the most tasteful of all operating systems I've seen crash - the screen fades to grey and a nice box (rounded corners and everything) appears in the middle telling you, in four languages, how to reboot the machine.

Yeah, that really lowers my blood pressure. Instead of an annoying blue with circa 1995 text on the screen. It's soo much better. Still can't figure out why my (GeForce 8600M) MacBook Pro will go on kernel panic rampages - every couple of weeks, Bridge will KP the laptop. Cleaning out the caches seems to work, perhaps it's just the dead goat and the candles in the pentagram. But I really appreciate tasteful screwups.

I had the same issue for a number of months before my MBP's logic/motherboard was replaced. After that, it seems to not happen nearly as often.

Your post is almost entirely incorrect.

Evolution is, in fact, a theory. In science, facts do not exist because science can only disprove beliefs, not prove them. While scientists may point out heaps of evidence supporting this particular theory, they cannot "prove" that it is fact. Even the current majority-held idea about gravity is comprised of mere laws and theories; these things can be found to be incorrect at any time.

That's simply the nature of science.

While factual statements can also be proven incorrect, I do not believe that this is the sense that you, like most people, consider the word "fact." In your case, it appears that facts are indisputably true, which they are most certainly not in regards to science.

To sum up this post, science can only disprove things, not prove them. Please do us a favor and refrain from thinking that the scientific community's majority opinion on a subject is the end-all to its correctness.

Just take a look at this screenshot.

I do this with my Saitek Eclipse keyboard and my MacBook Pro, and the setup works pretty well so far. I have Alt remapped to command, and the Windows key remapped to option, so everything is essentially in the same place.

Taking up and paying for two seats on the plane but only getting one skimpy rubbery meal?

While the plane may be consuming a constant amount of fuel based on weight alone (let's say a 400lb person paying for two seats vs two 200lb people), overweight individuals are proportionally using more resources in the process. This is due to the fact that fewer individuals are being transported on that constant fuel consumption, decreasing the plane's fuel efficiency per person. While the same amount of weight is theoretically being transported with a static efficiency of unit of weight per unit of fuel, more people can be transported with the same amount of fuel if they were able to fit into a single seat.

Of course there are other factors involved, but this was the simplest method of presenting the argument.

On the note of only receiving one meal, I cannot really argue with that, except the prospect of that extra meal simply being sold to the overweight person or being thrown away when it is not distributed to a traveler.
