Just recently I experimented with overclocking my Radeon 9600 Pro to get some more FPS in DOOM3, the result was about +8FPS. Then I tried underclocking. DOOM3 was of course unplayable, but even at 108/98 (default is 400/300) Quake3 ran at over 150FPS. When I was testing this underclocking even more resulted in image corruption, but right now 66/66 works fine, while 62/62 doesn't.
I've read about such thing a few years ago in a magazine. I think it was developed by a russian guy and the final price was expected to be about $4-5k. Right now I'm not sure how the movement was measured, but I guess it was similar to what is used in a usual ball mouse.
Anyway, an AC below already gave a link to the offical site (Actuality Systems) they do have a gallery, but there are some more images here, the text is in russian but there are about 15 pictures of this device.
What about Windows 2003? Can this SP be installed on 2003 systems? Are they planning to release a separate SP? IIRC there's more than the new firewall etc, a lot of stuff was recompiled to include NX, it would be strange not to update the W2003.
Different architectures. Overclocking the Athlon to 3.6 would not result in a valid comparison, produce A LOT of heat, and require a 666 Watt PSU. So far 90nm for Intel processors only increased heat and power consumption.
I don't understand this. Look, even a Lincoln Towncar is cheaper than this Ferrari! It even has a 300hp engine, that's only 100hp less than what the Ferrari has. And you also get three more seats! Wooo!
They are both expensive, and I wouldn buy a Dell or a Mac, but saying that one is cheaper than the other (especialy when it isn't) doesn't prove anything.
First of all, it's not cheaper. X800XT now costs over $500, while 9800XT about $250. Also the Dell has two 400GB drives. And anyway, what you're gonna do with it? Play Halo and SimCity?
I'm not a Quake guru, but IIRC air control was introduced in one of the updates to Quake1, maybe Quake World? I remember reading something about how the new air control allowed to jump around corners and some other tricks.
As to how the games feel...well I don't know, Q3 feels much smoother, as if the player is floating but my Q3 playtime is 4-5 hours max (vs about 200 hours in UT99) so I can't really say much more.
The problem with this argument is that if 90% of baseball bats/knives/guns/cars were used for murders(or anything illegal), then these items would be illegal too.
I'm just trying to look at this issue from another POV. However, with P2P gone, where would I get all my movies?
I've got a used Omnibook XE3 from a fuckedcompany when they were getting rid of extra stuff (and employees). It's a PIII 900Mhz, 256 MB RAM, 40 Gig hard drive and a DVD+CDRW. Cost me something under $200 with a bag and additional NIC/modem.
Now the battery that came with it almost dead and won't last more than 30 minutes. The problem is that a new one costs half of the laptop itself, and I don't even know what to expect from it. Any ideas on how long a new one would last?
Not exactly spyware, but still from the dont-run-all-that-crap-dept.
I visited a friend who got a new computer recently, a P4 3.4 EE, gig of RAM, top of the line GeForce (the previous generation/not the 6800), etc. When something didn't work, he decided to reboot and left the room. After it booted back up, I quickly hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to see what was running. Even seeing all the icons in the tray didn't prepare me for 57 processes! Add a browser, eMule or whatever he was using, some other stuff and it's over 60. Then I wasn't surprised that this beast ran UT2004 abot as fast as my P4 2.6, Radeon 9600. I have 18 processes at startup and usually don't go over 25.
It is... took me a while to get through the first level, but I found that walking and shooting while crouching gets you killed much less. Also don't forget you can shoot in any direction while in the air, so you can jump over the bad guys while shooting at them.
heh I had a glass of cocke on the table, between myself and my LCD display (not laptop). The weather was quite stormy, and the window behind my desk opened rapidly, hitting my monitor and sending it right on the glass. I managed to grab it right after it hit the glass, but still too late. There was a huge crack in the upper left corner of the screen, a bunch of dead pixels around it and the whole screen had the colors inverted.
It still works, but it's very hard do see anything because of the inverted colors and somewhat lower contrast and brightness.
Of course here on slashdot I should just say FUCK CREATIVE AND THEIR PATENTS, but seriously...
You don't have to have a dozen speakers, 5.1 can be enough, and some speakers are quite small and don't take up much sapce. A lot (if not the most) of stuff creative makes is of their own, the mp3 players you mention are of their own design, Nomad/Zen and flash-based players. An Audigy 2 (wich I have) costs about $90, without the front panel. Why is it ok to shell out $500 for a video card, and not ok to buy a $90-100 sound card wich would outlive two or three video card?
I don't have a problem using Creative products, and this won't prevent me from buying other creative products.
from the article: [...] a Standby button on the top of the device that puts the U into standby, and also resumes it. It takes maybe two seconds to either enter or resume from standby mode by hitting this button. It's lightning fast. Hibernation mode only takes a few seconds longer with my unit entering or resuming from hibernation in less than 10 seconds.
Also, you have everything bult in, you can type with the on screen or fold-up keyboard which comes with the device.
I agree in that I don't see the point, but why should he tell anybody at google about it? He wasn't [h|cr]acking anything, just using the service they provide. Should I also ask my ISP if I can load this or that page?
WinXP supports the fucking standby mode! It takes my three year old laptop(900mhz PIII) about 2 seconds to go from standby mode to desktop.

What are you talking about? What 250,000? It's really only A9.

Huh? Win98 (or 2k) doesn't come with IE6, you get IE6 as a separate update, same would be here.
Well done
>Fuck those bitches totally
The government agreed on such settlement, why do you blame the RIAA for choosing the CDs?

This(and any other) trojan opens the port ITSELF.
Why did they even bother with screenshots? I can get a slideshow with as many screenshots as I want by switching to Extreme Quality mode...

why would somebody link to a forum reposting the official press release? (well ok I think I know)
