I have had a win2k server box running my home webserver and ftp server for several months - the only real reason it has been down at all is because I moved recently. The win2k server I have running at work has been going strong for even longer - and thats on some really crappy hardware. I have had my redhat box running a cvs/ssh server for just as long - only took that down because I wasn't using it.
Guess it is just personal experience really, depends on what hardware you are running on, what build of linux/windows, what third party software - etc.
Westwood studios didnt get as much. Now when I head to their website I just get directed to an EA page, on which half of the "support" links are broken - and no news whatsoever on any future C&C projects is offered.
Stand strong Blizzard... you are one of the few left standing. The stalwart remnant of a dying breed.
You obviously are not a gamer.... or at least not a very serious one. Like cpus, processors run better when they are kept cool - so people who want to squeeze every last fps out of their chipset tend to use custom cooling rigs on their graphics cards. More airflow to these graphics cards can only help the situation.
Simply because one person out there understands something, does not mean that that knowledge is accessable to everyone else.
Someone understanding a piece of software, and that software being well documented are two entirely seperate things.
Actually I took the monitors more to be the possibilities of Neo's action as the matrix sees them. If you will notice, the camera always seems to focus on one and then go through it, as neo's mind chooses that path out of the many possibilities.
Remember people, CAPS LOCK does, in fact, make you smarter.
I work at an investment firm in Milwaukee. Most of our computers run windows. However, the main application that the traders use is, in fact, written entirely in Java. The operating system has not limited our ability to use competetor's products in the slightest. We have.NET apps in production right along side the Java based applications.
Now if, on the other hand, you mean that Microsoft restricts its tools to its own OS... well then I fail to see your point. We dont expect Ford to make parts that fit in a Toyota as well.
I find it interesting that you choose to find one of the more obscure points in the article and turn it into the start of an MS vs Java offshoot, which is hardly what this article is about.
JavaMonk indeed:)
Generally not. Most computers of the server type have both an input and output fan. One sucks air in, the other blows it out. The power supplies are the same way. Reversing the direction would just redirect the dust. Most power supplies also get their intake from the inside of the computer and blow to the outside, reversing this order would significantly heat up the inside, and just get the power supply even more dirty as its directly sucking air from the outside. The easist solution is just to have simple mesh filtering screens in front of the fans. Keeps most of the stuff out.
Im looking way further ahead than that...
Heres my plan... I buy the normal versions now, simply because they are excellent movies... then, once all 3 movies are out on DVD - they will inevitably come out with the uber-ultra-collectors edition box set, containing all of the special editions and some more extra footage to squeeze those last few dollars out of the devoted fanbase...
I buy that, and give away my 3 normal DVDs to a few friends/relatives, and I enjoy my complete collection with maximum efficency:)
I fail to see how writing software for free will ever be illegal... thats kind of like saying the act of generosity will be punishable by death.
RedHat is a company, and as such is more than a valid target for any legal dueling in the world of business. If you somehow think RedHat is the embodiment of open source made flesh... I think you need to reevaluate your definition of Open Source.:)

I believe the guys over at digital convergence had that same idea, just look at how right they were :)
