As a matter of fact, that's part of the plan.

If you watch this more detailed video from back in November: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=109_1195663753 they even mention that long term they plan to enable the suits to be autonomous. Soldier steps in and it's an exoskeleton, soldier steps out, it's a humanoid robot.

  2. Less-lethal on Examining the Ethical Implications of Robots in War · · Score: 1

One of the nice things about robot drone soldiers is that you have much more flexability in using less-lethal weapons. When your boys are out of harms way, ending a hostile threat immedately becomes a lower priority and you're free to taser, mace, netgun, springloaded boxing glove, et cetera, the enemy and take them alive. Hopefully this potental for fewer lost lives on both sides will be taken advantage of.

Actually, my understanding is that the old "they're putting stuff in the food so I can't get it up" myth is a result of stress. It's not at all uncommon that a soldier in basic or combat to be so physically and emotionally stressed that they are unable to preform. This is quite normal, however, the male ego refuses to believe this, so it clearly must be the result of outside interference, like the REMFs putting something in the food.

I promptly uninstalled. Mind you, that's just my opinion.

The old "no using .50s on personnel, they're for equipment only" fallacy gets thrown around a lot. In fact, my best friend even had it told to him when he was in basic. According to a DOD legal briefing: nothing in the Geneva or Hague Conventions prohibited the use of .50 cal weapons on enemy personel, the Hague Conventions only apply to signatory nations' UNIFORMED military personel, and US military personel always have the right to defend themselves and other personel with deadly force, using whatever weapon(s) are available; including fists, rocks, pointy sticks, knives, shotguns, cannon, etc.

  20. Re:As a record store owner on Record Store Owners Blame RIAA For Destroying Music Industry · · Score: 1

Getting out isn't the only option. There's a great indie record store( Strangeland Records) not far from where I'm currently living in northern VA. They don't just put a bunch of CDs on the racks and expect people to come in and buy them. They have at least 3 free live shows per week right in the shop. Local bands come in to play and get exposure, local people come and get a free show, the store gets lots of people coming in who then buy things since they're there. It's win/win/win.

They carry CDs from local bands and do a lot to support the local scene. They also make use of the wall space to sell art by local artists, and they have a good selection of records, something a DJ can't just download. I've never asked Ryan if I could look at the books, so I don't know what kind of profits he's pulling, but they just celebrated their first year of operation last month and things look to be going well.

Honestly I'm more worried about a good guy I know who owns an indie record store. He works hard to support the local music scene, sells local band's CDs, and has at least three free shows a week right in the shop.
He's not doing it out of some hope of becoming fabulously wealthy, he's doing it because he loves music. When he moved to DC he couldn't find a store with a decent selection of industrial, so he took matters into his own hands and Strangeland Records was born. He's living the dream, and I hope that enough people see the value in a store supporting the local scene to keep that going...
