I've said it before, I'll say it again, why is Microsoft bundling IE any worse then any other bundling? Notepad, Solitaire, Calc. Get rid of them all! Then you have Apple that bans programs that duplicate their programs (iphone, not sure about the mac). Why can't Microsoft ban Firefox and Chrome from their OS saying it duplicates their functionality?
That sounds like something wrong there. I've downloaded tons of stuff and none of it has ever magically been put into my temp folder. If you unzip something it goes where you unzip it to, and ONLY there... so it sounds more like that's where the guy was 'hiding' it from his GF.
Why do others (America especially) put up with old technology? It didn't take me a week to realize the iPhone was nothing more than a gateway to the iTunes store with a touch screen an accelerometer and some basic phone features.
Back when IE's competition cost money I could see why they would be in trouble for bundling a free program would cause people to think they were using their power as a monopoly. How many web browsers does OS X bundle? In KDE, isn't the web browser also the file manager?
In 10 years when MS is gone due to their so called non competition (and lawsuits) we'll have the same issues with whoever is the BIG company at the time due to these laws not being enforced across the board. Either you can bundle whatever you want or you shouldn't be able to bundle anything.
So... lets imagine a PC with every single web browser installed by default... which one do they put in their start menu? Do they put a program that says pick a web browser? What order to you put them in? Alphabetical? Well, who is at the top, they have a better chance of becoming the standard due to people being lazy and picking the first one. And you better hope it doesn't have anything selected by default or definitely that will be the monopoly version in no time at all. How about anytime a new browser comes out it should be a automatically installed as a critical windows update and so nobody is the majority, when you click Internet in your start menu it randomly picks a different one each time.
It this real or just some paranoia to scare stupid people?
What are they going to do when anti-malware programs and firewalls do their job and block them? It would be like they say they are going to start searching peoples houses... but breaking into a PC isn't like breaking into a house. Maybe they break the firewall, then what? They crack my password? Good luck...
And do you know what? The people they will hack easily will be the people with nothing to hide... I guess they will then say if they can't hack you you are hiding something? I'm glad I live in the US where you don't have to worry about stuff like thi$##$ CARRIER LOST
The prices may seem higher for no reason but you have to pay for that expensive logo... it may not look like it but the Apple is actually a platinum covered diamond.
However, until I can build a computer and load OS X on it myself, it isn't even an option for me. I haven't spent money on an OEM system since last century and don't plan on doing it again anytime this one either. I kind of thought Slashdot was that way, but I guess nerds aren't as smart as they used to be. If you are on Slashdot and get spyware or other malware on your system you should be banned. No, everybody should use OS X because it is invulnerable to everything.
I guess in the "real world" an average Windows installation gets 70 viruses per day, so if it lasts more than 2 consecutive hours it is probably having network problems. Also apparently there is only one person in the world that doesn't despise Windows and it is probably some compulsive liar because there is no way in this world a person could like something as horrible as it. I have had to reboot 42 times just typing this post and had to re-image my PC 3 times. There were 958,394,995 Windows Critical Updates to install and that was just today. They don't even fix anything, just waste space on my hard drive.
Sure, I am a computer technician at a company with 1,500 computers which all run Windows, and we have so few problems that we fight over work requests, but it's just because their computers are so slow and crash before they can get to the web site to submit a request. I guess the phones aren't working either since we don't get any calls to the help desk. If we all ran Macs with OS X my life would finally be perfect. (Score:-1, Flamebait) perhaps?
I've never understood the attitude that "imperial is so hard".
Measures of length
Who doesn't know how many feet are in a furlong?
My car gets 10 leagues to the gallon and it doesn't make any sense any other way.
There may not be a "change to default" button, but there is a "restore to default" button. At least on version 2.0.0.1 on Windows. Clicking that button changes the home page to: http://en-us.start.mozilla.com/firefox?client=fire fox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official It is the Mozilla Firefox Start Page which is similar to the Google with the Firefox logo.
The price is the same, as far as I can tell the selection is just as good, and the shipping (in my case) is better. It costs $17.99 to get 3 discs from Netflix, but I get 2 coupons a month which I can print and take into the local blockbuster and rent any movies or video games for free, which is very convenient for me. They also give me other coupons such as buy one get one free for used dvds, or a free used dvd. Those coupons can add up to more than the $17.99 fee. When I used netflix they said on 5 occasions that they never received the disc, then when we said we were going to cancel they magically found them and tried to get us to stay with them... which we didn't. I have never had any problems with missing discs since I switched to blockbuster.
So, I'm not sure what Netflix could be doing that was better than that... anyone care to
enlighten me?
Cedega? I don't know much about it. I tried to download it, but it talks about having to sign up for some transgaming subscription for $5/month. Is there a version that doesn't have a fee?
Welcome to a website called slashdot.
This is an American website. Obviously everybody in the world (except for China) can post articles, but most articles are submitted by Americans. So if something is news to Americans, it is probably news on slashdot. Just because something has been around in Poland, doesn't mean it is old.
Besides, do you want Americans going to polish sites and making stupid comments about stuff being old because we've had it for years? Of course not.
I have a Dell 4100 that I bought late 2000 and it came with an IBM 75GXP 45 gig drive. After about 11 months it started doing the clicking. I called dell and told them I thought the drive was bad. The guy had me go into dos and do a whole bunch of debug commands and everything ended up fine after 10 minutes. I've had the hard drive in 3 different computers since then, and now it's back in the 4100 and my dad uses it with no problems.
What's my point? Good question... I have no idea, but I just wanted to share.
I'm not sure what your point is. Everybody I know has camera phones with java and games. Also, Nokia phones are the same here in the US as in Europe and the rest of the world. We're not as far back as we were 10 years ago.
Nokia USA
There is the nokia USA site... look at all the phones available here... even the Nokia 9290 Communicator. Heck, the link in your post is going to the nokia usa site. Why do you think it isn't available here?
People will find a way around everything. We block attachments here at work, and still get viruses. People have laptops they use at home or on trips and connect to their personal email. How can you stop that? Even keeping virus definitions up to date doesn't help if it is after the computer has a virus.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, why is Microsoft bundling IE any worse then any other bundling? Notepad, Solitaire, Calc. Get rid of them all! I can download all of my pirated torrents and view pr0n in one convenient step? If so, this is one brilliant Nutt!
I had to explain what default meant to my dad a few years ago... to him it meant this:
Failure to perform a task or fulfill an obligation, especially failure to meet a financial obligation: in default on a loan.
Although from your subject I'm guessing your part of the world and my part of the world are far apart... :)
That sounds like something wrong there. I've downloaded tons of stuff and none of it has ever magically been put into my temp folder. If you unzip something it goes where you unzip it to, and ONLY there... so it sounds more like that's where the guy was 'hiding' it from his GF.
MP3 port = AUX Input
This = Dock Connector
Ignorant and uninformed? Hmm...
Why do others (America especially) put up with old technology? It didn't take me a week to realize the iPhone was nothing more than a gateway to the iTunes store with a touch screen an accelerometer and some basic phone features.
So MS is stealing from Apple again?
Back when IE's competition cost money I could see why they would be in trouble for bundling a free program would cause people to think they were using their power as a monopoly. How many web browsers does OS X bundle? In KDE, isn't the web browser also the file manager?

So what's next? I think freecell has a monopoly.
It this real or just some paranoia to scare stupid people?

But does it check when you launch IE and install updates if they are available?
The prices may seem higher for no reason but you have to pay for that expensive logo... it may not look like it but the Apple is actually a platinum covered diamond.
I bet they put that feature in for selling Vista volume licenses. In bundles of 850 the price is $77.10 each which is $100,000.

What a coincidence, I used to beat up kids in the 4th grade and steal their bikes. It was the best thing that ever happened to me!
