When I worked at Motorola in Schaumburg, a few people in the 70+ person group got the idea of bringing small plastic fish to code reviews and other meetings. Team building, or some such. It was an "in crowd" thing, and much like the Sneeches, it got ridiculous, at one point. So I sent out a group email proclaiming a new counter-movement called "PAIN - People Against Ichthyoid Nonsense." Shortly after, the fish thing at meetings quietly died. One of the senior members of the group - this guy actually had a doctorate in some field of biology, but preferred to work in software engineering - asked where I got the word "ichthyoid." I told him I read it in a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon.

  6. Yes, the recently concluded "blue chip" investigation into the massively fraudulent 2016 election proved all of that. Oh, wait...

  7. I'm from western NY, which is about as "red" as you can get in a "blue" state, and, yes, we absolutely don't use photo ID where I vote. But that's likely because for at least 20 years, the same voting place monitoring folks have watched while I sign the voter registration book. They know me. One of the monitors lives four houses up and has known me since my family moved in in 1972. I don't know if she's [R] or [D], but it doesn't stop her from using common sense: she knows who I am - she knows everyone who votes at that polling place - so she doesn't need to see photo ID.

Driving between western NY and Boston, MA, for example, is hit and miss. When they spiff up their coverage, I'll probably switch from pre-paid AT&T.

I know you said you'd like to move from AT&T, but that "$55 / mo" bill seems a bit high. I use their pre-paid service ( https://www.paygonline.com/ ). At $30 / mo, I get unlimited texts and calls, and can use any phone that uses a SIM. I don't know if they cap either of those in any real fashion since I don't push the limits of texts or calls. Coverage seems pretty good wherever I go - western NY to Long Island to Boston, MA, and all points in between. In case you can't really leave AT&T but want to give them less money...

Being your child's friend isn't inherently a bad thing - if you consider that being a friend isn't the same as being an enabler. My son, now 33, was my best buddy from minute 0. That didn't mean that I allowed him to run amok, or rewarded bad behavior because I didn't want to hurt his feelings and tell him "No." Screw that - if he needed discipline, he got it. He went on to become a standout scholar-athlete in high school, started his own family, and runs a successful business. He's a child of which I can be very proud. And he's still my best buddy.

I repeated what she said - for his benefit - and he jumped all over us, threatening us with federal prison for lying to a federal agent. I just repeated her answer - that's it. These fuck-tards can have your ass thrown in jail for the most trivial of things, in addition to what the OP said. That just about makes it a form of Russian Roulette. I consider that dangerous - to the point where if I don't have to come back into MY OWN COUNTRY, I'll take a pass on it.
