Apparently not everyone agrees. Actually the game gets changed cause most of the people from a certain culture might be offenced or want certain item X removed/added.
Of course, there are also regulations, like the German robots/cyborgs etc, but mainly I think distributors change it for the market. And you can't blame them, trying to increase profit.
BTW, I don't know about all of you, but I am glad japanese games get translated, cause my current knowledge of the language is pretty bad;)
I would be rather suprised if Sony came up with a great portable at the start. Nintendo has a long standing reputation with handhelds and many years of expertise.
Anyway, you are right, what will the PSP be able to handle? We will have to see in the future. Frankly I don't really feel like playing any 3D games on a handheld, unless they will be operated with just 2 or 3 buttons.
Anyway a bit competition won't hurt anyone, as long as Nintendo will still be able to continue to make great games, and hopefully we'll see some nice rpg titles from the PS coming to a handheld...
With the current state of videogames it's likely to affect people to a certain degree. I'll reveal something embarassing to prove the point. I certainly felt like playing around with a lightsabre after playing Jedi Knight II (ok laughing break...stop now ok?). However it doesn't mean I'll take my gun after playing Quake 3 and just walk up and down the street, shooting anything that moves.
Actually why aren't tv's and movies banned yet? I certainly feel like fighting after seeing Jackie Chan or Jean-Claude van Damme. This is also the whole point of my post, games will not create wacko's. Society does, it might just push someone over a line, which is not very clear with them anyway. This can be done with any media, so blaming games is just not right.
My next game will be playing a lawyer who should try to save as many murderers from punishment. I think it will be rated R;)

Saving MUDs?
·
· Score: 3, Interesting
Is there a difference?
Apparently there is. Some differences have been named already by others, things that come to mind are:
Price, lots of muds are free (not all)
Cheap to set up yourself (which is the reason why there so many out there.
Freedom. This one is the most important issue for me. I played muds since 1998. I have also played mmorpg's (beta's mostly or free games) and although they can be fun, mostly they are just limited in the things you can do.
I always compare muds to books, and mmorpg's to movies. I am not saying I don't like movies, but in most cases _I_ like the book better. It's quite easy to go to a movie, absorb all the information and entertainment. A book is a total different story though, you use your imagination to shape it, you interpret the words to your own meaning, and in fact you might differ on your view with others, which is the power of a book. Books are more popular then ever (I seem them everywhere when I go from my house to work and vice versa, tram, train, bus) so it seems. So why does it seem MUDs are going down?
Well for one thing, they aren't advertised. Most muds aren't payed for and a few take donations from their players, but even then it's hard to finance anything else then the machine to run it on and a decent link to the internet.
Last thing I think is detrimental to MUDs in general, is that there are so many. Once you know they are around and you make a search for them or look at the mudconnector, you'll find out there are thousands listed. Some prolly won't even be around but still. From those thousands of MUDs there might be just a few worth checking (also depending on your style, rp or h&s) the others are empty muds with just the admin around or muds with just an admin and friends dressing up in ubergear;)
However if that is what you see of MUDs then your view will most likely not improve on them.
Check out some of the more known sites about Emulating and roms like zophar's domain and
cherryroms. On ebay you might be able to get such a backup tool.
we know something we call Human rights. Even if you have a wrong visa (but you still have one!) then why you have to be cuffed and locked up?
Really, would a terrorist get any visa? And if they do, would they mix them up? Terrorism can't be an excuse to do anything you want, there are some rights everyone should have, and one of them is, innocent till proven, so why treat them like they are not?
Why would there be no watching? It could easily be done.
I think friendships/rivalry are pretty much the same you get from other online games. There are numerous of game sites with chat channels and ranking pages which would fit this interest to beat people and at the same time become friends with them.
However, still an arcadesystem is not a pc, and the pc can't really replace it.
And on top of that there should made some funds for real fun games:
-Fluffy beast game, where you get point for hugging the most fluffy beast you can find, bonus points for a tickling hug! Of course this game isn't about getting the highest score which might be the root of jealousy... no in the end everyone wins!
-Pillow fight games, you can knocked out, but you can sleep it off, signs of damage are shown by feathers who stick to the limbs you actually hit!
So much game ideas, now I must be off to find a publisher!
I guess that would not be the case, first of all the SS is considered evil, as they were a part of an evil regime. Secondly soldiers, which they basically are in the game, aren't really law enforcers.
Anyway, I agree that if there was a game called Iraqi Virtua Citizen, where you shoot Iraqi policemen, it won't be restricted, but perhaps I am just jaded;)
To my understanding and experience with the linking of the GBA and the GC it does add to some games.
I myself don't own a GC (yet) but my smaller brothers do, and they really liked the way they could swap pokemon with several games. They were actually playing games to gain pokemon so they could use them on the GB. I know this example is from the Nintendo64, but I can imagine this should work the same for the GC.
All extras are cool anyway. It just adds to the fact you can use your entertainment machines together to get even more!
This certainly sparked my interest. With such an adapter I could play the games I bought for the GBA. Not only that, but for people with a flash card they can play their own made games on it too.
Most likely you can also use a GB-bridge to also play all your old games from the original gameboy on tv, that would be nifty.
Oh and of course, I could also play the great games from the Cube.
Will this also mean, it would be possible for Firaxis to put up the ancient games on their websites for download? I mean, I got my hands on a copy of colonization just last year, but I have been looking for it for the last 3 years or so.
If you look for any of those games, they were still being sold by Micropose (now atari), and sure it's a great game, but I feel it would be a great service that games above a certain age would just be put up for the community (for the fans). It would surely be a great way of advertising for the upcoming sequels!.
Yes please! MOM and Colonization and I won't complain about stupid games coming out all the time.
Pirates must be one of the best games I ever saw. I played the game on the commodore at first, but I didn't understand anything of it (the game was English and I am Dutch). However we soon found out you could attack other ships, conquer cities and enter towns.
Just recently I found another copy of pirates for the SEGA: Genesis/megasystem and I actually played it again for weeks, now understanding everything. It is still a great game.
Which also goes for Colonization which never had a sequel either.
Oh those memories...spending the whole holiday playing Colonization in stead of swimming (I think my mom is still mad at me cause of that;))
I'd rather choose my own package and pay less to the cable company. However it's not an option.
I truely wonder if there will still _be_ an option for sony subscribers in a few months.
It's a good idea, however as the site reads: a potential savings of more than $15 a month I think the savings aren't that big as: Players will still have to purchase each title individually which makes you chose anyway. It's not like you can play all the games at once.
How many people play more then one MMOG anyway? I know I have hardly any time to play one, let alone 7.
Also makes me wonder, will the individual subscription fees stay?
What I do think would be a good idea, is to have total free trials for the online games, if you like more then one game you could decide if you want such an subscription.
Why are they losing out? They have great original games, which is what a console should be all about.
I don't see what the XBox is good for, but making a small standard pc, which can be used to run Linux on;). The games will get on the pc anyway. And on my pc I can play online games as well, and I can do my work on it too. What's so special about the XBox? Halo?
Well I don't really see a disadvantage at PS2, but for the fact I just like Nintendo games better, and I can play the ps games on my computer as well;)
However, I seem to be one of very few. And even though I have such a strong opinion about it, I don't even own a cube yet (donate now!;)). I guess I'll just stick to my gba...
I guess the main issue is that if they sell the console, the games will sell as well. The costs of developing a game is quite high as well, where reproducing is peanuts.
However I think the regular console buyer (addicts excluded) buys 1 or 2 games. For them it won't matter how much the games costs, they just buy a console for a short period of time.
The players in this market all try to get their console in people houses cause they won't get another console most likely if they don't like it much afterwards.
Then a free idea for Nintendo (cause I like them), they should sell the Cube with Sunshine/Metroid Prime on trial, if you don't like it bring it back! How many people would truely bring it back with either one of those great games? (Haven't seen Zelda yet)
If I recall correctly, the bullet time feature was left out of Max Payne multiplayer.
There was no multiplayer in Max Payne. And there won't be; perhaps in Max Payne2?
I guess a solution as used in Jedi Knight 2 could be used, the others don't notice a change just you, so in fact you are going faster.
However I don't have to worry about that;)
This is totally correct according to the site. It reads: Although Tiger Hill only supervises the products and projects it is associated with, we are adamant about their quality and service to our fans
This just means they will produce ideas and have sega produce games around them. I wonder if specialisation in games can be driven so far. How will you control that your concept will become what you truelly wanted when you are not even in the same office?
The whole idea sounds interesting but practically it might be very hard to get a good and interesting game.
Apparently not everyone agrees. Actually the game gets changed cause most of the people from a certain culture might be offenced or want certain item X removed/added.
;)

The quote is fun, but not entirely true I think.
;)

And thus ends the frustation of a mudder,

Totally off topic, but I'll answer anyway.
I just don't like to judge a whole nation, be it American or any other. However I am called anti-American before for not agreeing with all they do.
Thus, I don't wanna sound anti-american, cause in fact I am not (totally;)...

I guess I'll just wait to see who will survive first. With all these MMOG's, some inevitable will fail and stop. The better ones will remain, right?
We call those MUDS (And all it's deratives (sp?)).
There are still quite a few online. And I think the best feature of a mud _is_ the imagination factor.
A mud can come closer to D&D then any graphical game can, like NWN (although that is pretty cool).
For the record, I won't post links for muds, since the are numerous ones, just google for them.
Map which map?
I am a pirate! Aye, matey!

we can just press ctrl-alt-delete when we want out.
Makes the movie really stupid actually...just hit the power button Neo!
Judging from the four-integer IP, we finally have confirmation that IPv6 has still not been adopted after 5 generations of Zion...
You are forgetting it's the matrix. You think you see an old ip. The real truth actually is: There is no ip!
