My last move took me from one of the newest buildings to the oldest, compressed my cube, and moved me very near the door. My co-workers that were moved with me joke that we're 1 step away from being kicked out the door.
Back to the topic. Reception sucks when you are half underground in a cement building. If I want to use my cell at work I have to go upstairs or near the windows.
I would think they would have a big problem with the
panty brigade. I am surprised that it was not on their Hall of Shame. Are they OK with it or just didn't see it.
Why does this cliche exist? Isn't it wrong?
How many of these succeeded?
Tandy Color Computer 3
Apple 3
Any movie sequel that goes beyond the second
Windows ME (95 = v1, 98 = v2)
Of course there are successes in the 3rd iteration as well:
Pentium III
Windows 3.1 (sort of)
But usually the 3rd iteration just sucks!
Too bad I can't quickly find that web page of all the items that all failed in their 3rd version, that would have really helped my original argument...
Easy mode in most games is what I would consider to be "normal". What EASY mode should be is so easy that only an idiot would fail.
Easy mode should give you too much gold so you can buy all the equipment you want. Monsters should be simple to defeat. Timed traps and tricks should allow you to walk through unharmed, or be really slow. Easy mode should have lots of hints.
Easy mode should allow a user to see the end of the game without having to struggle. It should teach you the basics of the button sequences to get around in the game.
Easy mode should NOT force a user to play a section 20-30 times just to get past it (LOTR TTT : Cave Troll vs. Aragorn). It should not be so hard that you give up (LOTR TTT : Helms Deep Courtyard vs. Legolas). It should NOT force you to do difficult tasks (Harry Potter Sorcerer's Stone Broom Flying).
Sure the date could turn into a relationship, but with a contest situation it most likely would not. Heck, she may not even put out, making the one night just an ordeal!
The Playstation 2 on the other hand is guaranteed fun for a years. So many games, so little time.
Most of my shows were reruns or not on this week, so I turned off my TV this week. Heck my TV was off for most of March (due to reruns) as well. I hope this counts as my "week" of TV turned off. Next week looks like all new shows.
So what did I do with all that time?
finished Neverwinter Nights : Shadows Of Unrentide
shopped for stuff online
beat Baldur's Gate : Dark Alliance II in Extreme mode with a necromancer.
experimented with new (to me) technologies that I may want to use for my brother's web site.
read more of the Wheel of Time series (book 8 of 10)
Only those who work in the company, or are on my list of 25 valid email addresses actually stay in my inbox.
Now if I could only get Outlook (what the company forces us to use) to read the spoofed headers to eliminate the.05% of spam that looks like it came from within the company I'd be spam free.
It might be a good idea to use them especially for LAN parties. You forget how loud all those systems are until you make a Subway run for dinner. When you come back, the noise seems unbearable until you get back into the thick of the game.
For those of you that were going to respond: "fan noise at a LAN party? I can't hear my fan over my speakers!", we ban speakers from our LAN parties due to conflicting noises from people who get separated makes for a confusing experience. Bring headphones and keep the volume down if you have to have sound.
There is a video rental service here called Family Flix (Flicks, Fliks, however they spelled it) that provides movies that are cleaned up already for rent.
Last time I looked it was only VHS, but I'm sure they could do it for DVDs as well. They had an extensive list of movies available (1000's) which seems more comprehensive than 500.
If you are inclined to watch censored movies, a better alternative already exists.
The Exile game could be loaded so no CD switching was needed. Just choose the FULL install.
Brad did an awesome job being the villian. I had fun going through all the different endings just to see how he'd react. I'd say that stranding him was my option of choice even though it was not the "best" ending.
I agree that Exile was a bit linear in places, but in other places (the one with the dam and airship) puzzles could be solved in different orders. I would have enjoyed Riven more if it weren't for the 5 CD switching. That really broke the flow of the game too much.
I would say a lot of the fans of Myst would like another game. It's been several years since Exile (the third one) came out so even the busiest of us have had time to complete it at least once.
In my opinion URU does not count as a version since there is no compelling story to drive the player to want to solve the puzzles (as stated in a previous posting I made on this topic).
My kids and I spend a lot of time playing games, video or otherwise. And watching them gain in analytical thought processes due to that play time makes me desire another version of Myst where we have a non-violent, non-sexual atmosphere, that is beautiful to see and hear, and provide their sponge like brains a reason to think out problems.
For those of us that want our kids to grow up knowing how to think for themselves and reason out the correct answer, yes another Myst game is greatly desired.
Not that a guide is really needed for Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 2, other than for item creation, even that can be worked through on the screen.
Anyway, back to my point. For those of us who pre-ordered this game (at least through Game Stop) we were promised a guide on DVD. The DVDs printed all failed. None of us got them. After a couple of weeks Game Stop said the manufacturer is not going to bother creating the DVD now.
Guides are not usually necessary. In some cases where a game is not intuitively obvious (like the Gameboy Color/Advance Zelda games) a guide can help a lot to find where you need to go next.
It would be nice to have some accurate hints that you don't have to call a 900 number for. The other option is using GameFAQs which is ok for occasional use, but all "facts" are suspect.
I have been reading about "bugs" in Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II and have not been able to reproduce 1. I have read about the "bugs" reported by users of NWN that are typically not bugs, but OS, driver, or patch issues. Several "bugs" on Diablo II realms were caused by hacked items and 3rd party applications not intended to work with the game, we all put up with server crashes and lockouts due to these. So I have reason to be skeptical.
I will have to pick up Champions of Norath once I get bored with BG DA II just to see if these problems occur.
If there is actually a problem. You all know the stupid user syndrome where a particular problem occurs due to their inept use of the system.
I saw there were hundreds of posts on this over at the Sony board, but I would guess that millions of copies were sold. If millions of people had issues, there would be a recall. I wonder if the people having probelms are doing stuff like modding their systems or using Game Sharks.
Put anything in one of my microwaves without changing it's position and you'll burn a hole through it. So I can reproduce the same results with $1's, cookies, bread, a shoe, anything that does not have a lot of moisture!
What some people report as news! If I'd known this would make Slashdot I would have built a site for my defective microwave a long time ago, and blamed it all on RFID.
I'll start off by stating I am a huge fan of the first 3 games. I really enjoyed them.
I felt there were a few issues with the service. Yes I realize that it was a BETA, so the service may not have been complete.
The download of new ages was slow
The download of new ages was not always error free
The download of new ages was impacted by ad blocking software since it went through HTTP
There was no compelling reason to solve the puzzles.
The prior games did not have most of these issues, obviously because it was not online. The lack of a compelling reason to play was a big thing for me. This is why I did not buy the game.
Other issues I saw with the online version is that in order to play with others, you had to go to the age solo, then share the age linking book. This seems an odd way to implement multiplayer interaction. Then there was a compelling reason to not share your age because the other person could come in and solve the puzzles for you, whether you wanted them to or not. I can just see the guy with the strategy guide coming in to solve a puzzle for me with out giving me the chance to solve the puzzle.
Also some of the puzzles were exceedingly difficult. Lack of "hands" was a problem at times.
I am a Myst fan, and I refused to purchase the game, and if someone gave it to me, I would not pay for an online service unless the value was worth the cost. In my opinion the online service was NOT worth the cost in the state it was in at the end of the BETA test. Not to mention this was the only application that caused my 256MB XP machine to increase the size of the cache file.
While contracting as a programmer for the U.S. Army, in the early 1990's they required us to spend 3 summer months "testing" in Fort Hood Texas (Just outside of Killeen [semi-dry alcohol laws], Copperas Cove [totally dry] and Parker Heights [non-dry]).
We'd go into the "office" a single wide trailer at the south end of the Fort property at 3 am. We had 5 "servers" in 1/3 of the trailer where 4 of us worked. The middle of the trailer had 4 XWindows terminals, and the last 1/3 of the trailer was where the Military personnel hung out, it is also where the air conditioner was. The outside temperature would be in the upper 60's (Fahrenheit, I'm too lazy to convert the temps for the rest of the world, Do it yourself if you need to.). Not too bad, even with 90% humidity. My boss would crank the A/C to max. Bringing the interior temperature into the low 60's.
The sun comes up, and by 10am the outside temperature is 75 degrees, inside is also 75. By 12:00pm, the outside temp is 85-90 degrees, and the inside temp is around 95.
From 12:00-6:00pm the outside tempurature's go into the upper 90's the inside tempurature is in the 100's with the windows open, doors open and non-essential equipment turned off.
The STENCH of the port-o-potty 20 feet from our door was strong enough to taste!
We'd get dinner at 6pm, get some sleep and do it all over again.
Some of the other items that made this situation bad was:
Upper Officers expected to see "green"/excellent status on the monitors anytime they stopped in. Even though the status was moderate to poor most of the time.
The officer in charge of the developers would ask for a status on the latest developments, including unfinished features. Then he'd go use the unfinished features (they were hidden from normal users, but he had additional access), crash the system and blame us for shoddy programming.
There was nothing closer than a 20 minute drive. So bringing lunch and at least a gallon of water was necessary.
One of the "lead" programmers would spend the entire time gabbing with the enlisted men instead of working.
We were required to wear canvas like button up shirts with baseball caps to identify us as civilians that are allowed on site.
Needless to say after 2 summers, I was done with this job!
At least according to the Neistat Brothers 18 months is the approximate lifespan of the unreplaceable battery. The only option is to buy a new one or spend nearly double to have them refurbish it.
I am told that GM has done this with a Hydrogen Cell for fuel. Much better than any diesel in my opinion. We'd be better off if we eliminated diesel from our repertoire of fuels.
Like I'm going to publish what I use at home. Just know it is not this model.
My last move took me from one of the newest buildings to the oldest, compressed my cube, and moved me very near the door. My co-workers that were moved with me joke that we're 1 step away from being kicked out the door.

It's about time we get a link posted here that you can visit without being the first 5 people to see the post.

It was supposed to have released November 2003, delayed until "January 2004" or "1st Quarter 2004" depending on your source of information.
That's a long wait for my pre-purchase that was given to me for my Birthday in August!
Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance is the best multiplayer PS2 game there is, I am expecting the second version to be as good if not better.
