The biggest mistake that you can make is to believe that you are working for somebody else.
Job security is gone.
The driving force of a career must come from the individual.
Remember: Jobs are owned by the company, you own your career !

The rest, loyalty to employer, family, pay, job satisfaction and so on is very individual so YMMV
So YOU need to decide how to balance things to may it work to your own satisfaction. /Life does not come with a manual
Can only talk from my own experience - and it all boils down to the bottom line, litterally.
I have heard arguments ranging from 'not company policy' to 'too expensive, everyone will want one'.
At my present employer the standard machines is a 32-bit Win7 with a max of 3GB of RAM. Having to develop locally means having Eclipse, a db-server and a web server running. So with all the other 'crap' and email aso. running, my machine is having a hard time and I do a lot of waiting.
To solve my missing second monitor problem I have settled on installing a virtual desktop, I still have to switch around. But structuring what you have where helps.
Not that the above has much to do with monitors;-)
To err is human - to blame it on a computer, even more so. - Robert Orben
I have already done this several times in order to fit two SIM cards into a dual SIM holder for my mobile.
Although I have to admit that I only used a pair of scissors - the use of the meat cleaver is a nice touch.
Also makes for a cleaner cut with the scissors:-)
"education was secondary to better technology solutions" - was it a hearing or a sales pitch ? I think this quote say it all "The best AV product resides in the cerebral cortex", so start teaching some common sense in school or even better at home. Like you help your kids with homework, I think it is n execellent idea to help them surf safely. I don't care how much parental control sw you install, that is not going to teach anyone common sense or safe surfing.

Murhpys law ? What an optimist
In this globalized age I feel the need to raise the point that 3/14 will not work world-wide, nor is it a mathematically correct notation. So I would like to suggest an alternative, namely 22/7, which will yield the same result - at least to 2 decimal places;-)
One argument I often hear qouted as coming from gun enthuiasts is that people, not guns, kill. Taking that at face value the problem is not the number of guns but rather the people owning guns;-)
I have now been exposed to Lotus Notes for about 6 months now, after using M$ Exchange for 6 years at work. To be a bit diplomatic about it - I have finally found something I like less than many M$ products.
Why ?
Well I had no major problems getting to grips with Exchange. But Notes UI stinks, it is counter intuitive to work with and is generally so slooooooooooooow.

Well as long as only waste is used, I'm all for bio-fuel.
But using crops / foods, is dis-tasteful to me - no pun intended.
Using food for fuel may very well set back our civilisation to the first stage of three - the three stages being, Survival (How can we eat), Inquiry (Why do we eat) and Sophistication (Where shall we have lunch)

Normality has been restored, anything you can't cope with is your own problem.
Amazing how a 30+ years movie suddenly is 'relevant'
The event triggered me to watch the movie last night:-)
Wildfire and comet Wild - a coincidence ???;-)
I cannot really say anything about the 'Sun Java Desktop System'. I have not yet been able to run the live demo CD !!! On an old AMD K6-2 400 MHz I get an illegal instruction error during startup. Under VMWare 2.0.1 I get something about an illegal video mode. When I try setting one of the syggested modes I get a kernel panic shortly after. So IMHO the minimum configuration described on the CD does not fit the bill, and I could not be bothered to spend more time on the CD.
Either we do live in a Matrix style environment or we don't.
Sounds like humans are left out in that scenario
What goes up must come down. But don't expect it to come down where you can find it. - Murphy's Law applied to Newton's.

I missed it, what happened ?

Ah I see the makings for a religious confrontation already ;-)
April 1. would be my guess :-)
And equally important, don't do company stuff on personal time/system

Some one is annoyed for not having nailed down the hardware side ;-)
