  1. What about XDMCP on Microsoft Developing Windows for Low-End Machines · · Score: 1

I use an XDMCP connection to transform my old PII266 laptop into an AthnlonXP 2800+ powerhouse ;)
It's much faster than vnc and takes just a few minutes to set up.

  2. A second soundcard is a good thing. on Simple, Bare-Bones Motherboards? · · Score: 1

There are advantages to having a second soundcard particularly for games. I use my on board sound for Flight Simulator as an online ATC sound system allowing for quick and independant volume control of the ATC service. You can also use it as an extra set of outputs for music production if the need arises. :)

Now let's look at my army of typists. None of them know how to use Linux/GNOME, OpenOffice or Evolution. So I train them. I hire a training guy to come in for a day to give them a crash course on how to use Linux, and he charges me $200. However, I've got to pay my typists anyway, $100/ea for the day. So that's $100x10 + $200 = $1200. You have to spend all that to train them?? I've installed more than a few copies of Linux on Office machines where the boss has been too tight to buy a windows licence
All I do is place icons in the default Gnome taskbar for Open Office, Firefox, or any other programs the secretary/worker need to use.
Not one of them has complained that is is hard to use and they adapt to OOffice very quickly without extra training apart from a 5 minute familiarity crash course in the Gnome desktop. All they need is just one click away! :)

In the last 6 months I have gone from KDE to Gnome to Xfce and I think (as of 4.2) Xfce is the best of the lot.

If you compile Gentoo on a slower system (PII, PIII etc) you will notice a huge increase in performance over a pre-packaged system. I have a PII-366 laptop that could not play movies until I installed Gentoo on it. Sure, it took 4 days to get everything installed, but in the end the old laptop is now quite usable with a cutting edge, new OS rather than just opting for the recommended win98 ;)

So, you see, selling rocks isn't that bad ;)

What if you are on a limited bandwidth ADSL plan and the SPAM actually puts you over the limit and costs money. Could you then sue the Spammers?
