    Right. Because Apple's market share is huge, right? That'll lower prodution cost.

    Reality is that when Dell starts sporting AMD, AMD prices, which are already usually the best bang for the buck, will go down even faster. I think this will allow AMD to get so far ahead with bang for the buck that INTEL will be scrambling.Even if not that, AMD will be able to spend extra money on other features... more cores, more stability, etc.

    And why would not know something as obscure as Ctrl-L be ignorance? I can't even think of what it would stand for... "Long path name" or what? Oh, but it's Gnome-wide... yeah, that makes the Ctrl-L MUCH more intuitive.

    Because then everyone would whine, anyway... "Everytime I put an Audio CD in, it just plays it. I want to rip it instead. or browse it. Why doesn't it give me that option the first time?"

    Yes, but think of the advantage... if WWIII breaks out or an ice age and thousands of years from now, someone comes across my basement and manages to extract the data, they'll have a gold mine... think of it... my papers from high school, college, etc. They'll be in heaven! Heck, they could reconstruct nethack and possibly MS Windows which they would then install and crash all of their technological society!!!!!

    Growing resistant to antibodies is way different. Have bacteria ever jumped to another species? Almost every mutation in science degenerates a particular species, not improve it. Bacteria never forms into more complex organisms to any large effect.

    I've found that most SUSE users would not respond with "Red Hat" They are different distros, package management aside. (K)Ubuntu, however, are the same distro. I can go back and forth by choosing at the login screen (apt-get install kubuntu-desktop ubuntu-desktop), for the most part... not true of SUSE/RH.

    It's not that they have more knowledge.. just a different experience. Face it, if you don't have kids, you're unlikely to have wiped crap off butts or had a kid spit up in your mouth as you laughed holding them over your head. It's more of a "been there. done that. understand your situation." kinda thing.

    Yes, because it's totally clear that Microsoft leading allows them to control the market. In no way did those "playing catch up" impact MS in making this decision. We're just all lacking and wishing, huh?

    Ever think that since they usually write drivers for OS X/(BSD-type), Linux is a small step... or use a standard that simply allows ndiswrapper. Oh wait, maybe if they support them, the market share would increase, too. And what about the fact that Linux is on a large number of servers. Wifi access points would be easier... oh heck... why am I even replying to an AC?

    The actual download is pretty silly. You download a tar.gz file. This unzips into a total of 1 file (so why the .tar?).
    Um, did you compare file sizes? That is, the tar size vs the actual file size? That's the same reason some companies zip a driver that is only .exe or something. The main diff is that Linux doesn't really have a self executing compression. (and if it does exists, face it... tar is much more common).

    I love irony. After all, that Windows LiveCD or install cd detects everything out there without having to download drivers from the manufacturer's website or use an enclosed disk. Compared to Linux which works with probably over 95% (FTR, I pulled that out my butt).

    Point is, Linux hardware detection is far beyond anything else out there right now. If something doesn't work when I'm demonstrating, I normally tell people it's too new or not within standards most likely, and challenge WinXP or whatever to detect it (which it never does). They normally understand.

    Tell you what. Why don't you even the score. Have FF start on startup (put it in the start folder) and then, after he system is running (all the programs loaded). Check to see how fast it starts up... oh yeah, it's already running... just like IE.

    Lets see... the average user buys windows pre-installed and installs almost nothing... so if they bought one preinstalled with OOo, firefox, t-bird, etc. setup....

    Not to mention the fact that if you take all of 3 minutes to show them, "Look how neat this program is called Synaptic... thousands of free programs.... just a click away."

    Even if two or three don't set up completely perfectly, the other thousand usually suffice.[br][br]Users are only a stupid as you assume them to be. (ok, you know what I mean with that)
