"Other than the fact that Microsoft has already disclosed that it does not plan to bring the breadth and correctness of CSS support in mshtml.dll, the layout engine underlying Internet Explorer, anywhere near that of Gecko, the layout engine underlying the Firefox browser?"
I think that Free and Open Source Software Movement, though it binds many people with different views together, is more about freedom than about features.
If Microsoft introduce tab browsing in IE or they fix the big security problems you'll be left with no reason to switch to different products (beside cost). Remember, till Microsoft released SP2 everybody was recommending Firefox because of it's pop-up blocker.
If you don't value your freedom there will be plenty of companies who'll find it useful to take it away from you. Microsoft being the most successful in doing that.
Preaching about freedom can be tiring and it's like waxing lyrical if people don't care about that. But since this is the feature that I value most (I can get Windows for free and I know how to configure it to be pretty secure) than I will continue to talk about that and not about how nice is to have tab browsing.
Capitalism is not perfect, but I have enough names to give you beside Pinochet that were good presidents in democratic and capitalist states.
Actually if I think well I like how US and Western Europe function (with different degrees of free market and state intervention in economy) and I wouldn't like to test once again on my skin any cucu idea. I support though the idea of communists living in their own state or community with their own rules, I just don't want it imposed on me.
If communism would be applied by ants or bees than it would probably work. Applied by people for the people it doesn't stand a chance no matter if it's applied by Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Kim -- somehow the fact that many of these people would deserve to be judged for crimes against the humanity is a telling fact...
Yeah yeah... I know the communism is something beautiful and all the "communist" states were a perversion of that beautiful ideal. We can say the same thing about the "democracy" or "capitalism" we live in.
I'm not going to give you a lesson about what communism is, I'm too sick of that, but I just want to remind you (if you knew that) that "communism is the dictatorship of the proletariat" that doesn't strike me as a type of world I want to live in.
OK this is off-topic a little bit, but I always wondered why some people think that people who advocate software freedom are communists?
Communism is not about freedom, is about taking the freedom away from you for "higher" purposes (I know, I lived in a communist state). That's exactly what those kind of people who hate Linux say: "we should give up our freedoms to have a better economy" (which by the way is a false argument, but I don't want to go into that).
I like your quantitative approach in establishing the scientific truth.

I always wondered what would happen if there would be a day without news, today I find out the answer: the Earth is still spinning... the sun is still shining...
I think that that kind of behaviour would make the constructor liable for prison time. Hard to prove... but it still doesn't mean that we, as a society, we accept that there should be some crashes in order to have cheaper tickets or higher profits for airlines.
So comming back to Microsoft issue, maybe we should not accept the high level of bugs in their products either.
I don't think we accept airplane crashes. We don't even accept space shuttle crashes. We want 0 crashes, it's not like "it's ok to have a crash each x number of flights"

I really hate it when the Bible is presented as fact. I don't agree with the Christians/Jews/Muslims view about world.
I really hate it when religion is endorsed by the state "in God we trust" and "one nation under God". I really hate it when politicians bring God into discussion.
And I really hate it when people kill other people in the name of God (no matter in which languages his name is pronounced).
No. As long there will be money here scientists will come from all over the world to work and do research.
Students also come here to graduate schools and plan to remain. I would be concerned if most of the foreign students wanted to go back to their country... but that's not something that we'll see soon. There's still an American dream and as long as there is money and personal freedom I wouldn't worry too much about US losing the technology edge.
My guess is that means something like this: if one company tries to use a patent agains Linux than CA will use their own patent(s) against that company.
In my understanding this is how the crazy world of patents work and that's why companies rush to file in as many patents as thay can.
Don't like it? than don't watch it, it's really that simple. Why do you want to take the decision for me? Please let me choose whatever I want to watch.
Is this how democracy is supposed to work? People vote other people to think in their place?

"Good luck getting users to understand that"
LOL, I just rearranged your words...

People make ideologies and people apply them.

Actually open source fanatics dislike Macs too.

So, you want the imature Slashdot crowd to go check out your Uber Technocrat.net... well, you can count me in :)
Sorry but this is a bad idea, Ubuntu doesn't even have a complete KDE package yet.
Thanks for clarification... I just clicked on the "RSS" notification that apears in Opera, I didn't study to see what kind of feed that is.

Otherwise totally agree with you.

I'm not sure that people who cannot learn the difference between left click and right click should use a computer.
Aside from this: old people might be slower, but not stupid.

Right on. News are crap here (especially local news)
