It is worse than that. They are simply wishing to line their own pockets. With universal high bandwidth broadband there is no need for commercial add placements nor the campaign funds to pay for them, as anyone at any time can view any add, speech etc streamed from congress or the senate for free, as such they can all commercial adds can be banned outright.
This of course cuts off corrupt politicians from the 'teats' of the lobbyists and their corporate backers (apparently they do have prostitutes on the payroll). Hmm, apparently stimulus funds to protect and prop up banks and their executives bonuses but very little for broadband.
It is really quite straight forward. When Lenovo purchased bought the thinkpad unit, they naturally enough in business terms, dumped that purchase price into that units debt structure. In order to start paying off that debt, which basically adds say around 5 to 10 percent (depending upon how quickly they want to reduce that debt) to every notebook sold. They simple cut corners and hope to trade on the prior reputation of quality, basically lie about the current quality and pretend it was the same as before in order to sustain higher profit margins. This is done for as long as possible, until sales start to suffer and then they either return to a higher quality to rebuild the image or drop the price.
Typical lie, cheat and steal, modern business marketing and sales tactics. Quality it doesn't have to be there as long as they can spend enough of PR=B$ marketing to convince you it is there when it is not.
That is 'socialist' broadband and everyone knows the intent. Once you provide broadband to everyone in you country even to the point of declaring it a right, then you can immediately ban 'All' privately sponsored political adds, as anyone who wants to can view any high definition broadband political commercials, speeches, announcements et al when ever they want to. Now if you haven't guessed it yet, that is pretty much a death sentence for all lobbyists as they have nothing they can legally (campaign funds are no longer required) offer.
That really represents the greatest threat to governments of the rich, by the rich and, for the rich and is unfairly biased to the 'socialist' concept of a government of the people, by the people and, for the people. This naturally happens as the political left always tends to be more informed and active than the political right where a wealthy minority control a gullible majority and can only maintain that control when they can use their capital to control the flow of information. As every knows, when given equal access, the truth always unfairly competes with lies.
Easy, the threshold could quite simply be measured by employment levels and, export offsets. Thus generate sufficient export income and use that income to employ locally and a patent licensing credit could be provided. Personally I would prefer that when ever the government gets involved in research, that the research be done upon an open patent basis ie, any subsequent patents based upon that patent are also bound the original open patent licence and other countries governments, companies as well as individuals could all contribute to achieve worth while technology more rapidly but that technology would also be far more accessible.
Well the answer to that is pretty obvious, what's in a name, when marketdroids use, the mind boggles but at a guess very little to do with what reality might define that name to mean. So Vista SP2 might be marketdroid terminology for Vista SP1.2 if you want the full version of SP2 buy the latest version of windows or more logically if you get stuck paying for it as an OEM you might as well use it as you've already paid for it. Now if you pay for an upgrade for what a shockingly buggy OS considering they have been working on it for over fifteen years, well, your a schmuck and, if you don't think you are consider how many other products you would from a manufacturer after they have stuck you with a lemon.
Far safest is to have strict limitations on the size and number of transactions and to ensure the bank is liable for all transaction that it can not legally prove you made. Reason why, think armed bank robbers and how you home via the digital age has now become a branch of a bank, sure only limited cash but there are many ways to obtain your password as demonstrated and approved by the US government and with transfers and withdrawals it can become very risky.
Biggest problem with the digital age, it has taken the secured fortified bank vault and stuck it out in the wild with easy access by any miscreant and only secured by a user name, password and the will power of the person securing both.
Going with something new is better avoids paying licence fees for nothing. One scenario corporations/organised crime versus law enforcement, pick a side and work you way up, set in current time with a but of exaggeration, you know start wars for profit, poison whole populations with junk chemicals, bankrupt pension funds, oh wait, it already being done, still would make an interesting game though. I wonder if you would have to pay licence fees for using the name and images of recent corporate leaders and politicians, there are so many to pick from just over the last 10 years;).
On a more serious side steam punk looks like it might work well into a MMO, that whole 1930s scifi really has so many interesting possibilities and makes for great artwork and even music, plus a whole bunch of stuff is coming into the public domain so it can be readily incorporated.
Well, no, you have met the sociopath. They spend all day, seriously, all day plotting and scheming how to get ahead or how to entrench themselves in their current position. The plotting and scheming includes the two most important skills of the sociopath, how to blame others for the mistakes the sociopath makes and how to take the credit for the good work down by others, often simultaneously ie. they bugger up come to you for solution and before you know it, you made the mistake and the solution becomes theirs.
The multiple personalties are nothing more than masks and they will create and use as many as they need to further their schemes, The most difficult part is surprise, surprise, they get into their position via nepotism, best solution, leave, you might as well if you are any good you will be targeted for termination as they will recognise you as a threat, unless of course you are a willing accomplice in their inevitable criminal schemes to rip of customers, other staff and of course investors, in that case watch out, they will have a plan in place to ensure you take the fall while they take the money.
Now you might think sociopaths are smart, that is not really true, what you have to realise is, they really do spend all day every day, day in and day out, plotting and scheming, ingratiating those who will benefit them and back stabbing threats. They really do derive very little pleasure from life it is a part of their mental disease and ties in with they, from their own point of view, being the only person in existence, everyone else is an artefact, a piece of furniture, a chair to be sat on or thrown against the wall.
Except once the toxic waste starts leaching off the, now government owned site and they have to dismantle the solar/wind farm in order to clean up the site, all at public expense of course. So environmental impact statement to prove the pollutants will not leave the site through natural processes, be it wind or ground water movement, second the property should have a nil or negative value to take into account it's true non-existent value, thirdly if the property is only borderline and there are substantially better energy generating sites than the better sites should be used. The whole idea makes no sense for wind farms, as the tower represents only minimal land use, basically a small garden and a large tree per site, so pretty much 99.9% of the land still remains viable for other uses including orchards and grazing. When it comes to solar farms there are literally millions of acres of un-used government land, not only in deserts but also in the huge number of military bases ie. for a start the military should be forced to generate their own electricity from renewable energy sources on those bases because of the millions of acres they allow to go idle (methane, solar and wind), they can then distribute surplus energy to local communities at cost.
What you really meant to say is corporate PR=B$ public relation firms are trying to changed the image. Gambling ain't gambling when one side of the equation has the odds wildly tilted in the favour, that's just losing for the mug punter. You end up with a black mark because of that inherent deceit and that deceits inevitable draws corrupt exploitative people to it (people that believe in honesty and integrity will generally avoid that whole industry).
When you profit by the harm caused by an industry and the gambling industry cause a huge amount of harm to the industry, your greed reflects your personal desire for enrichment regardless of the impact on others, so your reputation is tainted, and in competitive situation where your qualifications and experience equals some else's competing for that same position, you will likely lose at the subconscious decision making level.
For those that are driven by the greed in support of the gambling industry, either equal the odds and you can gamble along with punters or your just a pack of cheats.
The flip side of this, is those that profited by polluting the land in question will inevitably use lobbyists to inflate the price paid for the land where it matches the value of adjoining unpolluted and leave all that pollution behind. Either the contaminated land is already government land or the polluters pay to clean it up. This just sounds like another greedy arsholes dream to dump worthless land onto the taxpayer at enormous profit.
Let's see wind farms, ridge line and cliffs, both places generally completely useless for dumping of refuse or manufacturing plants, so all suitable sites are likely pollution free. Solar farms, flat land not suitable for farming, certainly plenty of desert acreage, in fact millions of acres, so plenty of pollution free available. The reality a whole bunch of polluted land not really suitable for wind or solar farms, very low energy generating capacity but, no problem they all will still be dumped on to the public purse for maximum lobbyist greased profits.
Technically speaking of course those people only impact the local economy they are in, where as the cost is reflected in the greater community. This of course doesn't even take into account those that make not contribution at all, they just claim the credit and the profits. Always far better to focus upon direct personal service and support as the bulk of the income always remains within the local community, rather than bankrupting the local community to enrich a few isolated billionaires who invariably cheat on their taxes, offshore the profits in tax havens (to absolute no ones benefit but the other criminals that share and make use of that tax haven), driven by ego consume the planet's resources and generate pollution thousands of time beyond what the normal person would deem acceptable and to add salt to the wounds, corrupt the political system to further enrich themselves regardless of the harm caused to the rest of society.
Now that is not taken to the extreme but is the reality, what is actually occurring now. So are intellectual protections still a benefit to society or have they become a destructive burden and, due to the insatiable greed of it's main proponents and benefactors (the already insanely rich) will it become even more destructive.
Don't miss the fact that their biggest out and out, completely undeniable, absolute lie, was that piracy was hurting the economy. The truth is, when the money is not spend on licensed content it still ends up getting spent on others things in the economy, like food, clothing, accommodation etc. often things in the economy that are locally produced, have a much greater impact on employment within the local community and are often of far greater 'real' value.
Technically speaking of course piracy is often far better for the economy as it keeps money in the local community and it even has environmental benefits as it cuts down on media manufacture and transport costs. Whilst it is true that piracy does interfere with the accumulation of huge profits for handful of individuals, in truth for the majority it provides economic relief and a bit of mindless escape in a difficult economic situation.
To be fair, to crack down on piracy we would also have to crack down on the other side of software licensing, false advertising, non-warranties and cost recovery for damages caused by faulty software. So I have to think making the software companies pay the full costs for their deceits and misbehaviours would likely far out way realistic losses caused by piracy. It is also hardly surprising that an association that supports for profit publishing that adds no value to anything apart from a lot of false advertising is also opposed to P2P the free to publish network, where content creators can use the greater community to publish their works directly to other users.
Isn't it interesting though, a corporate corruption of government is considered a demonstration that government is a failure rather than corporations are inherently corrupt and prejudiced against the public good. The reality is when you cripple the size of corporations you limit their corruptive influence on government. This report came out of a government institution, the research was conducted by government employees at another government institution and it demonstrated the better value of a product produced at another government institution by other government employees and it's superiority to the corporate produced and corruptly marketed solution.
So a demonstration of failure by private corporations and their corruptive influence on government idiotically becomes a right wing chant for the superiority of private for profit over government for cost. What this does emphatically demonstrate is that private corporations should be specifically excluded from any and all government decision making, sure you can participate as an individual but never as a paid to lie flunky.
I see the Sun Oracle merger producing and very interesting mix of closed source and open source software 'systems'. Proprietary and open applications on top of an open operating system. They are certainly large enough and have sufficient commercial activity to do very interesting things not only with MySQl but also OpenOffice and even Linux. So potentially an enormous and probably lethal threat to the single monopolist incumbent. Of course the convicted monopolist can't really say all that much so it is stuck with behind the scenes shenanigans and operating through puppets 'er' trusted partners.
Meh, it is all one great big fat greed driven lie. Here's betting that if google news 'search' pointed every where except to News Corp owned web sites they would immediately sue google for that exclusion. Search directs people to sites, to read the stories and of course any accompanying adds. What that lying sack of refuse Murdoch is really bitching about is that google news search points to a whole bunch of news sites carrying basically that same news story (some of course will contain profit driven distortions especially the Fox network) creating a huge amount of competition, especially for news in English, with a choice from US, UK, Canada, Australia even places like Russia, India and, China.
So not 'News' but advertising Corp reworks news coming off the Reuters network and is grumpy because no one but right wingers goes to read it on the various Fox web sites (most of them being some what ignorant 'er' uninformed aren't high on the pay scales so aren't that desirable to advertisers outside of the junk food market).
So News corp has tainted it's image and is no longer seen as a reliable news resource and fails in the very highly competitive internet news market. News Corp basically wants subscription based news because when you pay a subscription you become tied to a single news/advertising source, your paying for it so you use it and due to a lack of time you check no other sites. To really under stand News Corps failure on the internet you only have to look at the Tea Baggers basically a News Corp internet marketing exercise that has failed and that attempt at a political profit driven manipulation really is a measure of their commercial presence on the internet, from a general public point of view 'eww' something to be largely avoided.
Unfortunately it can be far worse than that. An intelligence contractor seeking a cut of the reward money or perhaps seeking contract renewal just picks anyone available. Even government agents seeking promotion are not above fabricating what ever evidence they need in order to gain a promotion worthy arrest and prosecution record. These of course are the underlying reason why public trials are required and why the case must be proved in a court of law and why people are not punished prior to their being guilt being proven. Just consider the rewards paid for all those innocent (until proven guilty in a court of law) at GITMO, how much of it actually made it to the so called informer, how much was kept as 'purchasing' commissions along the way, a formal investigation of each and every 'terrorist' reward paid would likely find some very interesting results and prove fraud upon major scale.
Late or wrong really are pretty much the same in journalism. What is different is the correction, in old world media the correction had top be fought for under threat of civil suit, now the correction often comes out just as quickly as the original story and eventually overtakes and replaces it. This seems reasonable apart from of course commercially driven lies and of course government propaganda.
So the trick in modern internet journalism is to differentiate between commercially driven for profit lies, government lies to manipulate the general public, people individual seeking revenge and amateurs just making mistakes. The reason of course you need to differentiate are intent and the harm caused by that intent and of course suitable retribution for that fraudulent action.
Extreme internet distortion designed to misinform the public upon a major scale and distort the nature of community governance could for example be considered treasonous, as it's intent is to harm the greater community for the benefit of a few individuals, so obviously with the potential for extreme harm should come an extended term of corrective incarceration. For typical commercial distortion the corrective measures should obviously be a balance of the penalty significantly exceeding the the value to be gained by the distortion and incarceration based upon the harm to persons caused by that distortion. Beyond those the corrective nature of the internet seems to pretty much self regulate after a fashion, not perfectly but in a rough and tumble fashion not to badly.
Some Americans are really wound up, originally the domain addressing without a country of origin ie.com versus , com.us were and are specifically defined as international. It is only after the republicans wanted to take over the international domains and portray themselves as the imperialistic world government enforcing it's rule, the rule of violent force using it's global military ie. a massive self driven ego trip. In fact to this day if you add.us on any American government web address it points nowhere a real sign that ego trip of a handful of imperialistic individuals controlling the whole world is still alive and strong. Expect this to remain a permanent point of contention and be the likely driver for breaking up international domain name control, to localised mirroring.
Hmm, substitute 'internet' for 'software' and 'service' for 'licence' and, you pretty much have the typical system for altering the nature of your internet connection online, for number of, period, capacity and speed. Sounds like some tea leaf (that's cockney rhyming slang nothing to do with crazy republicans) at M$ documented their ISP's system and is trying to patent it because it hasn't been patented yet. It should have been really obvious and recognisable to all the M$ executives all the way up the line but, lie, cheat and steal is just in their nature from the top down, really a lame effort of this one though.
The story is nonsense, The only reason steam is picking up market share is because it is mirroring with ISP's, so rather than downloading off it's servers it uses the servers from ISPs all around the world, Steam saves money and so do the ISPs as they are not importing additional traffic into their network. Other DRM digital download distributors want to catch up, they basically have to do the same thing.
Not that I like Steam, I think the service is no what it claims to be, from loading banner adds into games you have bought, to requiring an internet to play games you have bought (it will shut you down at regular intervals until you do the required regular updates). As far a software digital downloads, I'm waiting until download and burn, then install from dvd or hdisk or usb stick (they are starting to get cheap enough) become available. Forget DRMed downloads because you can absolutely not trust them with your gaming investment, they will inevitably try to monetise your investment, either by dumping adds into it or by selling analysis of your gaming habits or the nickel and dime route where they keep charging you for bits and pieces of the complete game.
Well in this case it is even more interesting, they are not just trying to claim copyright theft on their works but on the title of their works. They claimed 29,914, hmm, did they download and validate that those titles as listed where in fact the works they claim to have ownership or did they just look at the title and pretend it was evidence. Lets see 97,942 instances even music at three minutes a piece that is still 4,800 hours of works they claim to a checked and confirmed as their content.
So the Federation Against Copyright Theft claim that iiNet has not monitored and censored their users, well I should hope not, as that would be an illegal and criminal act and iiNet would rightfully be sued for attempting to do so by their users and, of course prosecuted under law. In Australia it is a criminal act for companies to monitor telecommunications for any reason other than strictly limited checking of quality of service, not to be recorded and, not to be censored.
There are even privacy laws in place to protect employees from excess invasions of privacy, let alone customers and of course non-customers, those people the customers are communicating with who have no connection with the company providing telecommunication services.
That is the catch with any pointing device attached to a computer it must be intuitive for the majority of people and it must be reasonably functional for the majority of programs. For web browsing the forward and back thumb button are really useful.
About the only really useful configuration change for a mouse is to change the two main mouse button to low movement, high resistance joysticks for better scrolling actions and introduce a similar button/joystick for the thumb on the side of the mouse and drop the scrolling wheel.
Here green is clearly not the colour of a fruit but the overall colour scheme of the company. Creating a 'green' image, typical PR=B$ because just like every major retailing chain they purchase their products from the most exploited, polluted, anti-labour markets they can find, only proviso is, it is cheap and they can add a markup of well in excess of 100 percent, so green has absolutely nothing to do with apples and everything to do with their corporate colour and of course attempting to create the false impression of being a green, natural, organic company.
This is lawyers being lawyers, some executive somewhere at apple in the marketing department is trying to justify their inflated salary. Then it is off to lawyers to see if it is worth challenging and, of course the answer is yes, no money for the lawyers otherwise.
The logo, apart from looking pretty bad, is really generic, so apple, tomato, pumpkin, peach, apricot, nectarine in fact in round fruit/vegetable that has stem near it leaf and, to be honest I wouldn't have seen any fruit at all if not for the apple lawsuit, it just looks like the typical child's big 'W' from some primary school project, honestly I think they good have managed much better than that.

Some Americans are really wound up, originally the domain addressing without a country of origin ie .com versus , com.us were and are specifically defined as international. It is only after the republicans wanted to take over the international domains and portray themselves as the imperialistic world government enforcing it's rule, the rule of violent force using it's global military ie. a massive self driven ego trip. In fact to this day if you add .us on any American government web address it points nowhere a real sign that ego trip of a handful of imperialistic individuals controlling the whole world is still alive and strong.
