And Paul Linebarger was mentioned as an expert on Psychological Warfare in an early episode of Earth: The Final Conflict - you know, one of the early episodes when it was middlin' good science fiction, before it turned into complete and utter crap. I doubt less than 1 percent of their audience caught the reference...
Sheesh...you anti gun guys are mighty scary - you always posit a "bad guy weapons escalation" scenario, that, fortunately, out here in the real world, almost never happens. Criminals are not fighting a war, and will not gear up for an encounter with a hard target - they are lazy cowards, and when confronted with a target that might possibly be able to shoot back, will tend to avoid that confrontation and look for a safer target, or some safer scam to generate some revenue. Although, now that I think about it, restricting weapons possession of you types, that seem to always have this scenario on your mind just might make a difference (Ha! Just kidding!). In the real world, practically free access to weapons, as occurs for instance, here in Texas, has driven crime way down, and not ramped up incidents of these "high tech, highly motivated armed criminal" bogeymen your kind always presents as an argument...to sum up, it's an interesting fantasy (and, really, valuable insight into YOUR mental state), but, except for very rare instances (the LA bank roberry is the only one I can think of off the top of my head), not present in the real world.
But, if you allow guns to be sold to anyone, and the majority of people are peaceful, law abiding, life-andproperty rights respecting people, then it's a win. If you believe the vast majority of people are vile, despicable, lawless and likely to commit gun crimes, then civilization is lost already (and you are probably a democrat).
But, the prolem is, as explained on Penn & Teller's Bullshit, the lefties have managed to sieze the high riund in American universities, and then slammed the door behind them, suppressing all other viewpoints (how's that for mixing metaphors?) The presetnation of radical ideas is very one sided....
I agree 100%. Gerrold has claimed that it was accident, and not intentional that he stole the plot from "The Rolling Stones"...to which I reply, bullshit. Anyone who was a rabid Heinlen fan as a youth (as David Gerrold was, by his own admission, and as is obvious from his work), would INSTANTANEOUSLY realize where that plot idea came from, no doubt or hesitation. The only curious thing was that he though no one would call him on it. He discussed it with Heinlein years later, and Heinlein told him he didn't mind, and that he himself had "borrowed" the idea from a short story called "Pigs is Pigs".
I'm hearing a lot of talk, but not much in the way of results...if you're not going to do anything "cool" until I'm dead, you'll be waiting another 40 or 50 years...by that time you'll be as old and unhip as you suppose I am now...that's a long time to wait......
Yah, whaterer you say Forrest...my generation invented rock and roll music, went to the moon, and stopped an unjust war. Your generation...wrote a web page and invented rap music? Ya have a lot to be proud of...
There's no arguemtn, Fight Club was a great film...but Forrest Gump came out in 1994, and thus is ANOTHER film that indicts YOUR generation...Easy Rider came out in 1969...that's the generation I'm talkin' bout...
My generation's defining film - two guys do a big cocaine deal, drop out of society, take drugs and have sex with beautiful women while crossing America on outrageous Harley choppers (Easy Rider)....your generation, two dorks on Segways...
Teller's one of my heroes! He spoke at Rice University, circa 1975 or so. I was in the audience. A Greenie type got up during the question and answer period and accused him of encouraging the US government to increase the number of H-bombs in our nuclear arsenal. He hotly denied that he wanted the US government to make more H-bombs! He then smiled, and said it was his goal to have the US government make BETTER H-bombs instead! Teller was not at all ashamed of the role he played.
Yah, those requirements in ads are a crock. As well as being written to target someone's pal, a lot of them are just plain impossible. I once interviewed at a place that wrote in their ad they wanted someone with 4 years of VAX/VMS experience...in 1977 (the VAX was introduced in 1975).
Yer laffin', but one of my pals at work swears he got hired at a big company to do a Powerbuilder application. He didn't know anything about it, but he figured he could fake it until he picked it up from his coworkers on the project. Turns out, that the other 7 people hired to do the project had done the same thing! Needless to say, this project was not on time, or written very well...
"Some year, some decade, it might just come into the popular conscious to start making things more beautiful for people."
It's a great quote, and a great idea. It's happened before - the Art Deco and Art Nouveau periods were a time when even common everyday items were expected to be beautiful. It could happen again.
First computer job I quit, my boss got so mad he fired me before I could leave his office, then chased me out of the building screaming at me at the top of his lungs, screeching about me being a traitor. He was kind of an excitable guy....

I can think of no way to kill your love for something quicker than having to do it as a job...

Only reason to buy one is that it's the current hardware implementation that runs VMS...

I don't wanna explode!
It they're still running Windows 95/98, it already sucked to be them...bug, patch, or no...
Bullshit. Inadequate/complete lack of frequency coordination and plans for inter-agency communication != lack of bandwidth.

SO, you're saying, just the citizens of Animal Crossing?

Another clue...when the Bounty Hunter said "that's no Shepherd".
Charlie never killed anybody...
Yah...when primes are outlawed, only outlaws will calculate primes.
