Before any idiots post saying "You're lying! don't be an idiot" - This post is a satirical post critizing the music industry, it has been posted before on slashdot, it is a joke. It is not serious!
Cd baby Works very hard at getting independant music on the ITMS. Cdbaby works as an middle party between the artists who don't really know what to do and Apple who don't have the will to deal with a million artists on individually. Cdbaby then gives the artist a ridiculously large percentage, iirc they can end up with 60c from a 99c song sale.
The problem is that without infrastructure Telstra isn't worth 10billion: let alone $40. You can't win 2 elections on a mandate of selling telstra and then just not sell it.
Sites like www.newgruonds.com turn a profit serving 4-5 meg movies to every single user based purely on advertising. It isn't pretty but it can be done.
Don't be silly. The op had a point but the only exception to it that I have found IS podcasting. I don't want to have to click to download an mp3, and drag it into my player and then onto my dap, i want it to be automatic so that when i wake up my dap is updated with the latest. Rss makes this a far simpler process.
Opening my rss agregator is just as easy as opening my web browser, only my browser gives me more information.
Bad example. Donald Trump is smoke and mirrors. He gets money from Asia to invest and then has to pay it back. His businesses are going broke so he choose to do a TV show as the only way to save himself from complete bankrupsy.
Why would Dave Winer need money from apple?! He is a fucking millionare who doesn't have a job because he doesn't need one! And for that matter, what the hell kind of money trail will there be? Podcasting costs nothing! I'm all for cynicism, but you're looking for a conspiracy where there isn't one to be had.
The irony of podcasting is that it was created to circumvent big media companies. The itms top 20 suggests that as much as people love to tell themselves "I hate those clear channel motherfuckers" When it comes down to it, thats all people really want.
Both coles and woolworths have online stores for you to browse! You have never seen them? they deliver to the major capitols. They make extra money by the virtue that they NEVER have any specials. It is always list price
You'll find thats not how Australia works. The ACCC is charged to enforce the law which prevents unfair competition.
Key examples of what they do is forcing the major telco not to undercut competitors because it has wholesale ownership of the infrastructure. This theory could easily be applied to not letting people get a pc without windows on it.
``Free software'' is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of ``free'' as in ``free speech,'' not as in ``free beer.''
Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it refers to four kinds of freedom, for the users of the software:
* The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
* The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
* The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
* The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.

The iTunes Freebies are about one song a week and they make you give away your credit card. Chances are most people who signed up probably bought a couple of other songs. I doubt the free song download on iTunes would be bigger than 20million.
Because ears gain perception based on direction. The more directions a sound can come from, the more immersive the experience for the end user. Thats why when The latest action is at the cinema you **feel** it, yet when playing it on your PSP you watch it.
Perhaps more interesting.. there is also an ipod update available!

This means that your podcasts will FINALLY be organised on your ipod, and your ipod will treat it like an audio book: press pause, come back later and it remembers where you are!
The podcasts are held on the server of whoever makes them. Slowness of teh podcasts is most likely due to the fact that Curry/Madge can't handle the bandwidth hit.
Its different people everytime. Its satirical. A JOKE. and it gets funnier every time it gets posted. I might post it sometime. Hilarious stuff. I wish i had mod points
In Australia, the rating system for movies and games ensures that if a game is MA 15+ you have to be over 15 to buy it. Doesn't this follow logic? What on earth is the point of your esrb rating system if it is not used.
It is not as if it stopped me playing GTA:1,2,3 when i was under the recommended age, but the idea was that my parents knew that i was.
Incidentally I pirated them so my parents didn't have to pay, but they **knew** what games I was playing. Isn't that the role of every good parent?
p.s. this new authentication image has the worst clarity of any I have seen. Took 3 times to get it right!
Would you want to pay 250 euros for something that won't play umd movies you buy at your local store? If you don't but an EU psp, you will be stuck with US region encoding. So be careful before you think about importing!

I call troll... Nobody is stupid enough to say a monopoly is good.

The problem is that we haven't gutted them enough!
Think about it! If they didn't have money for internet, our phishing problems would be solved!
