Every iPod/iPhone ships with an USB cable: i use that one together with a $5 USB charger.... Where's the problem? Why do i need to build my own charger?
As for China, they don't really care about your religion that much as it is made to seem, as long as your religion does not get political. It's a kind of easy to follow rule. Falun gong is more a cult with clearly defined political intentions than a religion, anything else is just a plain lie.
if you have to work late, then it's because he failed as a manager (planning to short, failing to extend dev-time in advance, failing to communicate it to superiors, etc...), so of course he should stay too.
Well, because we already broadcast enough, so sending yet another message does not really matter anymore. What I worry is our regular TV programming, which in the eyes of any advanced culture should make earth look like it's populated with some crazy monkeys flinging shit at each other.
Get a china mobile prepaid card (rmb 100 )and have somebody chinese speaking call the service line to enable unlimited gprs for rmb200/month. it's slow but get's the job done.
but yeah, the price is crazy... one year 2mbit adsl in shanghai goes for rmb1500.
It's funny that most posts here suggest using SIP instead of Skype... which is *unencrypted*. Of course you can use addons like Zfone but hardware clients can't be used with that and SRTP/TLS/etc, again, is not supported by most providers and sip clients.
This may be true for some backyard manufacturer producing bolts and washers, but (AFAIK) Foxconn is producing Apple stuff and they have better things to do than cheating their customers. PS, it's a Taiwanese company. Most of the iPhones come from all around the USA, a port of it may fall of the delivery truck. If i remember correctly there was news report about a container full of iphones "falling off" a cargo ship in Hong Kong few months ago.
That rendering is the most ugly shit i've seen in years. It does not even look close to anything i'd want to get even for free. I wish you teenage fanbois could just shut up and go back to your mamas basement to tune your shitty alien dells.
I am running Ubuntu on Acer Aspire 5500 series. It's the best distro i ever tied. I have been running Fedora Core for over year on the same machine, but every update would break something (x11/hibernate/suspend-to-ram/etc...) and every new release would start pissing contests with ATI, which is sadly inside my machine, leaving me on the console until i figured out how to fix it. Since F7 still has no x1300 support, I decided to switch to Ubuntu, and it's worlds better compared to FC6.
As a added bonus, you can chat on MSN and Aim/ICQ, get news feeds and it has an api for developing your own extensions. works with most Wap and Java (MIDP1 and 2), Symbian enabled phones...
What's up with that Skype hype? It's a proprietary protocol with lousy quality over crappy lines.
Dedicated Cellphones.... skype... uh... How about using SIP and one of many subscription-free VoIP providers (FWD, Sipgate), an old box and Asterisk@home?
You can not only call your VoIP friends, but also make cheap calls to regular phones, setup several VoIP providers in Asterisk.. you can buy a sub $20 modem card for connecting your home line to Asterisk and have voice mail and fax too...
The highlight of the "discovery" is, that they did not manage to get enough money together to pay the hunters to catch them a life rodent. I guess they spent all of their research money on asian hookers the night before.
According to NYT "As far as he knew, Dr. Timmins said, no Western scientists have ever seen a kha-nyou alive."
The whole subnet of 218.106.34.0/24 has no reported spam, our current ip is somewhere in there. We are being blocked by the 218.106.0.0 - 218.106.63.255 clause, which... also has no reported spam (as far as I can see it in the spews "evidence file"): http://www.spews.org/html/S2171.html
SPEWS does not block whole of China. Only the network providers that do not act on spam complaints. Exactly like the SBL does.
By blocking nearly all netblocks of chinese providers (there are not many of them), you are effectively blocking whole China. There is no chinese IP I could take that is not blacklisted, except probably some government owned. I know that, we tried all of the providers here, several times.
No person in this country is able to do any pressure around the actions of those ISPs. When we and several other companies I know of have contacted them several times about the SPEWS entry, they said they do not care about that and it's our business to get the ip removed from there.
Nobody at those ISPs gives shit about the block, the only people who suffer are those who cannot do anything about it. You even cannot white list your own IP with SPEWS, no chance.
It's 2010, get a life. Comments like this were funny sometimes around 1996.
That's why there are also rumors that a amazon is going to launch an android tablet at the same time:

Yeah, blau.de is pretty good. But you will need internet access and some basic german skills to activate the card on their website.
100mb/30 days: EUR 3.90, activate by calling 1155 and pressing 8,1,4,1
1Gb/30 days: EUR9.90, 1155 and press 8,1,2,1
Unlimited/30 days: EUR19.90, dial 1155, press 8,1,3,1
All plans auto-extend the next month, to disable dial 1155 and press 8,2,1

The chinese firewall at work. That's how it works, it was covered many many times previously here on Slashdot.
Btw, we here in Germany are getting our very own firewall very soon too and our proletariat seems to love it.
Nice troll, but I don't think so. You must be confusing china with your government.

So what's up with Youtube censoring that ..censorship subverted with a popular pun... video all the time?
China has it's firewall, we have big corporations doing the censorship... i'm not sure what's better.

Many expatriates here in China think it has something to do with this:
Xiamen demonstration today - live reporting on blogs and video sites
EVENING UPDATE 18:30:
The link to the Flickr.com photos of the demonstration that Feng 37 posted below in the comments has been
blocked by the Net Nanny. The rest of Flickr.com seems to be unaffected.
A Guess: The shit hit the fan last week when one of their servers went offline and they started to forward to farm1 which seems to be blocked here.

That's what we are going to do, we have a secondary mx in Germany, I am setting it up currently for routing all of our mail though it.
That with the spamcop was a mixup, we use spamhouse.org for killing, which is quite reliable for us after extensive testing.
