    Get a china mobile prepaid card (rmb 100 )and have somebody chinese speaking call the service line to enable unlimited gprs for rmb200/month. it's slow but get's the job done.

    but yeah, the price is crazy... one year 2mbit adsl in shanghai goes for rmb1500.

    It's funny that most posts here suggest using SIP instead of Skype... which is *unencrypted*. Of course you can use addons like Zfone but hardware clients can't be used with that and SRTP/TLS/etc, again, is not supported by most providers and sip clients.

    This may be true for some backyard manufacturer producing bolts and washers, but (AFAIK) Foxconn is producing Apple stuff and they have better things to do than cheating their customers. PS, it's a Taiwanese company. Most of the iPhones come from all around the USA, a port of it may fall of the delivery truck. If i remember correctly there was news report about a container full of iphones "falling off" a cargo ship in Hong Kong few months ago.

    I am running Ubuntu on Acer Aspire 5500 series. It's the best distro i ever tied.
    I have been running Fedora Core for over year on the same machine, but every update would break something (x11/hibernate/suspend-to-ram/etc...) and every new release would start pissing contests with ATI, which is sadly inside my machine, leaving me on the console until i figured out how to fix it. Since F7 still has no x1300 support, I decided to switch to Ubuntu, and it's worlds better compared to FC6.

    Dedicated Cellphones.... skype... uh...
    How about using SIP and one of many subscription-free VoIP providers (FWD, Sipgate), an old box and Asterisk@home?

    You can not only call your VoIP friends, but also make cheap calls to regular phones, setup several VoIP providers in Asterisk.. you can buy a sub $20 modem card for connecting your home line to Asterisk and have voice mail and fax too...

    The whole subnet of 218.106.34.0/24 has no reported spam, our current ip is somewhere in there. We are being blocked by the 218.106.0.0 - 218.106.63.255 clause, which... also has no reported spam (as far as I can see it in the spews "evidence file"):

    SPEWS does not block whole of China. Only the network providers that do not act on spam complaints. Exactly like the SBL does.

    By blocking nearly all netblocks of chinese providers (there are not many of them), you are effectively blocking whole China. There is no chinese IP I could take that is not blacklisted, except probably some government owned. I know that, we tried all of the providers here, several times.

    No person in this country is able to do any pressure around the actions of those ISPs. When we and several other companies I know of have contacted them several times about the SPEWS entry, they said they do not care about that and it's our business to get the ip removed from there.

    Nobody at those ISPs gives shit about the block, the only people who suffer are those who cannot do anything about it. You even cannot white list your own IP with SPEWS, no chance.

    That's what we are going to do, we have a secondary mx in Germany, I am setting it up currently for routing all of our mail though it.

    That with the spamcop was a mixup, we use spamhouse.org for killing, which is quite reliable for us after extensive testing.
