If you want to OPT OUT, then don't put it up on the net. The NET is a public utility, put content out there and expect it to accessed, cached, and backed up in numerous ways by LOTS of individuals intentionally or un-intentionally. If you want your data private DON'T put it on the net, seems fairly straight forward and simple.

Somewhere some fool convinced the ad companies that banner ads work, that guy is a genius, and the ad companies are blind morons. I can honestly say I HAVE NEVER clinked thru a banner. I am a UNIX type, I've a M$ platform simply because of the games, and because of work compatability, Excel is the scourge of my existence. All technical stuff aside I find very little difference between apple and microsoft as companies. Both would like to control the world, and EVERYTHING in it. A Jobs' world might look a bit slicker but gilding a cage does not make it less a cage. As to how to break the OS lock, find a BETTER system than DirectX, GPL it and get the developers to use it, it would have to be backwardly compatible to the existing prodcut and superior enough that a simple upgrade from M$ would not be stomached. I'd LOVE to move to an OSS platform for day to day usage at home.
