    as a poster above stated, security is best in layers. I run an IPCop box AND kerio4 on windows machines.
    Application level privileges is a good thing(tm)

    nitpicking: blackice is not a firewall, never was.
    Google

    on a side note, I disabled TinyPersonal Firewall on my mother-in-laws
    computer while on the phone with ISP tech support.
    Within 10 seconds of disabling it, I had a windows popup.

    Renabled the firewall immediately and disabled messenger service.

    kinda like waking up on a cold morning and diving back under the covers. its nasty out there !

    bit of a broad stroke there. tinypf, kerio and sygate have good reputations, and have for awhile.

    Kerio4 even added popup blocking and application execution policing (one app spawned by another).

    no. why ?

    with windows, you are stuck with the kernel it comes with.

    with linux, you can pare it down to the bare essentials when you compile it yourself.
    sure, Lindows may be a little bloated for usability, or Xandros.
    but Debian or Gentoo ? hardly.
    can you tailor you WinXX kernel to your hardware while removing extraneous crapola ?

    they bought it from RAV, who consistently score in the top 5 in virus detection tests

    actually, Intel recommends against using HyperThreading with Win2K (all flavors)

    squeezbox is most definitely not a client.
    it is a streaming media server, and you dont need the slimp3 devices to use it.
    it streams to WinAmp just fine. runs pretty sweet.

    thats strange, windows XP boots faster than any linux distro
    Ive ever run except debian with almost no services running.
    it surely beats the pants off any linux install with a normal set of services and GUI.
