Right now Mac and *nix have the best of both worlds: they dont have many virii and worms by comparision and they dont have to advertise it - users of both platforms know thats the case. Bragging about the fact would have bad consequences I think.

Mac users do think and work differently than windows users. They dont approach work in the same manner and they use their respective platforms in different way to get that work done. When I had a G4 I didnt use it the same way I use my XP system. I was more focused and more concerned on how to do the job in the best manner possible - with windows I find I spend more time trying to figure which of the 4 different ways I can do the same thing would be best.

Small example - the 3 different ways one can get to control panel in XP. You shouldnt have to HAVE 3 different ways. If the new systems are what the leaks say they are, I'll buy one and this machine will be a game machine only from then on.

I fix computers all day for a living - I just want to have fun when I get home. I sold the G4 to a graphic designer who was starting her own business over ebay, she got a great machine, and I got to play RTCW along with everyone else when it come out.

Waiting for the PPC 970 machines to see if they are the jump ahead for mac that they are rumored to be - if they are, then I buy one and have the best of both worlds. :)

The USA is on a course that will cuase it to break up due to it's internal self contredictions, just like the former Soviet Union did. It will just take about 20 years longer to do so.

Seems like many posters are unhappy with the Apple postings recently. The fact is that it's news in the computing world when Apple is going to be introducing new products, becuase those are the things you will be seeing in your windows boxes someday. Apple has a reach far beyond their own product line - witness Firewire and the Music Store. Their current line of hardware in the Pro area stinks, everyone knows that, that it would seem that they are about to make a huge leap forward in that regard. I want to read about it here on /. and I currently DO NOT own a Mac, though id the new macs rumored to be coming soon do measure up to the windows world I will be buying one - the speed gain plus a mature OS X would make me switch over to mac for everything except games, which will always be better on wintel.....and of course, we know that all these MAC=GAY flamers on /. do nothing with their computers besides play games. If they ever actually DID something with computing......... :/

I think they are. They have a apple controlled browser out (Safari) and I just bet they have had a Office type suite with full file compatability hidden in some dark room for a while now just in case MS kills Office. I dont think Office is much of a threat anyway - when I had my G4 I could have cared less, and nobody in business is using Macs anyway! They can just use Office on their PC'S. Apple does need a foolproof file converter for anything Office does however.

The days of Apple and MS making nice are coming to a close. After 10.3 OS X comes out with nice 970 dual hypertransport enabled in tow things are going to get interesting. Thats the only reason MS bought Virtual PC - to hold it over Apple's head. Look for another round of platform wars to start later this year.
