  1. Abuse? on EU Says Microsoft's Abuses Are Ongoing · · Score: 2, Insightful
Well, at the risk of having my karma beaten like a red-headed stepchild, here goes.

According to both the CNN and BBC articles, the EU is having an issue with M$ 'using its market postion in an abusive manner to crush competitors to its Windows Media Player.' According to the articles, those competitors happen to be Quicktime and RealPlayer. Now it might just be me, but i am pretty sure that neither one of those players has ever been a real competitor to Media Player. Realplayer has certainly tried to beat them in the realm of streaming content, but due to such little things as shit for quality and lack of content, they didn't do so well. Quicktime has really always been a Mac format, and was brought over to windows for some reason or other, and while it has done fairly well, never really got quite big, despite the fact that it used compression tech that was way ahead of its time back in the day, but with divx, xvid and 3vix out, just cant really compete anymore. So to sum up, the EU is accusing M$ of abusing its market power to include a product that is evolving with technology to 'put down' legacy media players?? That's like accusing an accounting firm of using something other than COBOL to write the latest version of accounting software because its not fair to COBOL, despite the fact that it's a dead horse being held up by poles.

So what you're saying is that Nintendo, which actually gives away dev kits, fails to support their 3rd party developers the way Sony does, when they actually charge an arm and a leg? The only factual statement in their is that M$ not only gave away devkits, but paid for a huge chunk of development costs.

The whole reason Nintendo is having such a hard time garnering 3rd party support is because all of it is either going to Xbox or PS2, because they feel that a vast majority of the games they are developing won't have a place on GC, which is a 'kiddy console'. IMO, that is a bunch of crap, because im certainly no kid, im 23, and own a GC. As far as whether or not some of the more risque games could do well on the GC, there's no way they could without being there, and its quite apparent that they can seeing as how well the ResEvil franchise has done, as well as Eternal Darkness.

Here in the US, if a company doesn't submit to the will of the ESRB, then they usually don't get a lot of shelf space in stores, which is pretty much a death knell for the game. Most Large chain stores, like wal-mart, toys-r-us, etc. won't carry a game that doesn't have an ESRB rating at all, and most smaller stores will stuff them in a dark corner if they carry them at all. But banning games? I didn't say anything about that.

Here's how I look at it, without most of the sarcasm seen in my previous comment. These days, nearly every new computer that comes out is more than enought to run any title out on the market. When buying a new computer, what software you buy, what OS you buy, it all comes down to a matter of preference. Most benchmarks can be manipulated, as we have seen with Nvidia, ATI and most recently, Apple. As far as usability goes, Every OS out there has software that is equally suited for various applications. Even for gamers, choosing an OS can fall to preference, rather than selection due to the fact that more and more companies are releasing PC games on all systems, including Linux, of late. The bottom line is that it really doesn't matter what you buy, as long as you are happy with it in the end. If not, then sell it and buy something else. As far as a way to compare options and make an informed decision goes, hardware wise, everyone is equally overpowered. But for information on that sort of thing, read reviews done by your peers, CNET.com has a lot of those.

For the most part, all you would really have to do is replace the fuel tanks with something along the lines of an oversized SCUBA tank, and install high pressure air hoses in place of the fuel hoses. the pumps themselves could remain the same, as they could measure the amount of volume transferred the same. As far as cost on that sort of thing could work, excavation and removal of the old tanks would be the most costly project, with disposal being the major cost. I'd expect their would probably be a joint subsidization on part of fuel manufacturers and the DoE on that.
