  1. well well, well.. on Moving Net Control From ICANN to Governments? · · Score: 2, Insightful

another case of papa governments trying to decide what's best for everyone in the world.

the whole principle of the net is freedom, freedom of information, the internet is just the pipe. it's up to the individual LANs of the internet to control content.

people want to make the internet just like TV, which if you havent noticed, it incredibly shitty, and people are flocking to the net for entertainment, so now big companies behind the government or governments who control the media want to turn the net into another television..

last I checked, the net was for development and the trade of ideas and information, if a few weirdos want to express their horrid obsessions, and it's legal where it is.. fine, it's up to where it isnt legal to block that content.
thing is, the US government would get in trouble for blocking sites as of the current situation, but if th net is a controlled medium by large governments, they cant get yelled at.

in most other countries, it'll be taken just like that, here in the states, it'll be taken away, with the horribll ie of "It's to protect you from yourselves and terrorism, because we care about your safety!"

ah, this is the problem, see, the US government can be changed the way it currently stands, though it's getting harder every day. they keep wanting to do things that will make it harder for us to run our own lives independently.

before you know it, we'll have to call the local police to ask if we can go play in the kiddy pool because those big deep pools are dangerous for people who are even in their 20's.(note: sarcasm)

keep the internet open, it isnt television, and I think this is why developers of various universities are repeating what was made in the 60's and 70's with the internet2, because intener 1 will be a pile of ash within the next ten years at this rate with ads everywhere and TV commercials popping up on your monitor every 5 minutes, or propaganda ads reminding you that the government is your all knowing source of protection, etc, along with those required safety cameras in your monitors to ensure that you're safe all the time.
we're living the last days of internet freedom here, enjoy them while you can.

and I wouldnt be surprised if independent companies start their own networks again like back in the early 90's with aol and compuserve and link together to provide a friendlier internet if at all possible.

notice that most of the violence related deaths because of "videogames"
have all been by kids who have been picked on a lot, or ones with a violent background or are just violent themselves?
some kids who get picked on cant handle it and snap. some kids are just already fucked up due to chemical imbalances.. and some are screwed up because of a bad family life.

but, people started blaming videogames becausei t was a much simpler scapegoat than all the real reasons. and the fact that the kid who shot up columbine had some FPS games.. but they leave out the fact that he prolly got the fps because he was already fucked up, not to mention the videos of him and his friend shooting targets in the woods and cheering and going "DIE!! DIEE!!! YEAAAAH!!! DIEE!!"

the columbine kids were violent, and they were picked on.. it's like provoking a sleeping tiger with meat strapped on you.

voip offers some mobility (have the same number no matter where you go, but can be unreliable, but is good for low priced long distance calls and casual calling)

POTS (analog) is tried and true, and reliable in most situations. makes good for a good landline, can be used when the power goes out (in most cases, unless the lines got completely cut, or if you use a handset, hence why I keep a "tethered" phone around)

liek I've said before, technologies really never die, we just find other things to use..

not much more you can do with a watch than put a buncha crap that interferes with you needing to tell time, analog looks more stylish, digital watches remind me of a child's watch, before they learn analog.

it's like with cell phones, while it's neat that it has a buncha new stuff on it, it isnt really that much of a useful advancement in technology. I just want to use the phone, not play games and stuff, some of the only usefull addons are address books, email, and speed dial. (which has been around for ages) otherwise... most of the other features, such as voice recording, cameras, games, ringtones, etc are useless and often annoying. I dont want to hear some pop song in 8 bit or in polyphonic tones.. bad enough the music sucks.

basically, any technology that can do its job efficiently and is still useful, will never die, people just like newer things, it's like tv's...
"GET THIS NEW SONY 476ZSDSX! now your screen can be one pixel larger than before! now with tons of useless features you'll surely never use!"

computers are one thing (though never truly obsolete, unless it's an apple II or ENIAC)
but with most technologies we have, they've hit their pinnacle and there's really not much to improve on to necessarily make them better, if they want to make phones better, they should make the sound quality better.

in the us, namely retail, if you actually have any brains, you cant get the job, they want stupid, inexperienced, young workers who need their hands held on the job and need the manager's "brilliant guidance" to help them along, that way, none of them never will have the chance of getting promoted to a level near the manager, unless they're complete sheep.
all the jos my mom has worked, every time she'd get promoted, they'd find some reason to demote her. She has way more experience than anyone there, including management.

but I say, make it look like you're a dumbshit when it comes to jobs like that, get hired, then start kicking some ass.

and I know in the computer field, it can be tricky, because there are companies who want incredibly talented people, people who know what they're doing, because management is tired of people who have no idea what's going on running the company.. and of course, I'm talking about low-level computer job stuff, like network technicians for some random corporation, etc.. not stuff like working at IBM, or some random big company that is computer centric.

    it's a lottery, sometimes you'll win, sometimes you'll lose.

btw, I know the experience discrimination thing all too well, tried getting a job at 5 different computer places, put in all of what I know, didnt get hired, but some people who didnt know shit got hired and they had to read off a list to know what the hell I was talking about when I visited to look for parts.

Compusa didnt hire me, and I know exactly why, their manager is a dumbshit.
I ask him for a vga box and he's like "whazz vga?"
