  1. hey... on ACM Eyes Policy Position on Electronic Voting · · Score: 2, Insightful

why not try to make evoting just an interface to already used methods, like punch cards. no, seriously, that way we dont get those crap about hanging chads again, and the elderly can have a touch screen which would be simple to select the candidates, out comes the card, and into the ballot box it goes.

it can be that simple, and I'd rather have punch cards than electronic storage, since electronic storage can be corrupted, or changed. one hard drive failure in one voting machine or system could lead to a panic, punch cards may be old and simple, but they work! so, why not just combine the best of both worlds?

  8. Answer to your question on Linux vs. Windows: What's The Difference? · · Score: 1

Linux is really neither, since it's a kernel, the OS part is decided by the distribution makers.
and in the kernel, the desktop part is an option, linux can be used for more than just an OS, it can be used to control devices and hardware, and many other things. bash, X11, and all that crap is just an option, hence why linux will always have the upper hand, because it can power a desktop OR server OS
bsd is an os, and windows is an os, linux itself, its entity is a kernel, that can power a lot of things.

also, he didnt make matters good for himslf with the movie title, because bradbury is pissed because he didnt ask for permission, bradbury prolly woulda said yes, but he's pissed that moore didnt even TRY to even ask him about it. that's the prob right there, moore is too much of a reactionary, if he thinks "HEY! I CAN DO THIS!" he does. he's a bit arrogant in that respect.

however, I still would like to go see this film and see what it's about.

We lose tons of species every day, either ones we dont know about and some we do, it's called natural selection, if one species isnt able to survive and adapt to change, manmade or nature made, nature remedies this.

  24. Re:the NX feature on WinXP SP2 Sacrifices Compatibility for Security · · Score: 1

think about it, SP2 is getting rid of legacy program support, correct?

what is windows 98? legacy support.
By forcing software makers to use the newest features for the programs to work, it must break workability with older systems like windows 98.

Get it now, basically, Microsoft is making sure people are forced off systems like 98 and to use XP instead, thus buying new systems and software, equals more revenue for microsoft, and they can finally kill off windows, such as they already intended to do. Since people are staying with the older systems, Microsoft might lose money if they dont act quickly, so they have to "persuade" the user to switch, by basically killing off legacy support, thus NEWER APPLICATIONS THAT WANT TO WORK ON NEWER SYSTEMS MUST ONLY WORK ON NEWER SYSTEMS, THUS PEOPLE USING OLDER SYSTEMS WILL BE LEFT IN THE DUST OR UNABLE TO USE THE NEWEST AND MOST SECURE VERSIONS OF THEIR FAVORITE PROGRAMS.

got it now? I hope that clarifies what I said.
Microsoft has found a great way to get people to use their newest stuff.
Kinda like how Y2K was abused by OEM's and microsoft to get people to buy new machines, thus boosting sales.
I think the only company that was gonna fear anything was Microsoft, since before 1999, a lot of Joe Average people were still on windows 3.1 because they didnt need to upgrade to a 400 mhz system with windows 98 with 1000 different features, they wanted to type up their documents, and use it for simple things. and Microsoft would lose money. get people in a Panic by believing they'll lose their data if they dont upgrade, bam, new computers are sold, big OEM's make a lot of money, and the ultimate victor is Microsoft, saving their own hides, and preventing people from seeing a glitch in win 3.1 that makes year 2000 look like ":0"

Not everything is a conspiracy in life, I know, but there are conspiracies, and then just sneaky tactics to gain a quick buck.

Much like those expensive kits that checked your computer for the y2k bug. meanwhile they did nothing.
I know people who were online on New years eve, '99 and they said the internet was at an all time best.

Anyon else think this is nasa basically shitting its pants in the reaction of spaceshipone being successful?

    you're damn right it is.

Now they wanna try getting innovators to innovate for them, since they're stuck, one catch though, they'll basically take your idea, give you half the money you deserve from it, and then they end up getting 10 times the funding and the control over space again. Just like any good monopoly over anything, they're trying to pull anything to ensure they keep their superiority and political rights over space. My science teacher did contract work for NASA and recalls it being the worst job he ever had, spending was horrible, and many people were underpaid, and only the higher ups made the most cash. it was a job you had to have a passion for, and NASA did a great job at killing a lot of people's passion for space. My teacher actually gets paid more for teaching than he did working for NASA. Sad as it is.

I dont think too many people will jump at this, because the x-prize is much more fun, and you get to keep your soul afterwards.
