    Ahh yes, the VAT is one of those particularly lovable realities of socialism. It didn't take the EU long to assume the authority to arbitrarily set a dollar value for EVERYTHING, and essentially tax it for whatever the hell they wanted.

    Sadly most Europeans don't seem to mind being fucked in the ass by their rulers.

    A successful "flying car" wouldn't be rocket-powered, but air-breathing.

    With rockets, the craft would be heavily weighed down with the necessary O2 tank. An air-breathing engine would be much lighter, not to mention less expensive.

    If a flying car is ever to be practical, it won't be using rockets.

    I don't think you read me correctly... I'm talking about clean installations, not upgrading an existing one.

    I can't install Linux on my PC because I am using an SATA drive. Upgrading the 2.4 kernel isn't an option since I can't even install the 2.4 kernel to begin with.

    I will; Mandrake 10.0 is the only distro that I know of that has 2.6 support right out of the box.

    As long as they can prove/demonstrate the perp's intent to break the law, it's not entrapment. Just like the "bait cars" the police use in cities to catch car thieves. Just like how they caught that soldier trying to sell intelligence to Al Queda (even though he was actually talking to undercover authorities, not the real terrorists).

    WHY install Linux on a toaster?

    WHY make a cell phone so small that only an ant can use it?

    "Why" is such a great question, but unfortunately the only answer here seems to be "Because I can". Didn't science have a purpose once upon a time?

    A lot of the old bats and goats that the government communicates with (Medicare forms, anyone?) can't see 2 feet in front of themselves. Documents HAVE to be in large font; otherwise they can't read them!

    I recently helped my parents purchase a 41" Sony DLP for less than $3000. The parent poster is 100% correct; the picture is outstanding, has a surprisingly good sound system (of course no substitute for a good home theatre system), and the whole thing only weighs 70 lbs!

    Just my 2c.

    Wouldn't that imply that I'd have a working kernel to work with? I don't think you understood my gripe: I can't INSTALL it on an SATA drive! So how can I modify a kernel I can't even install in the first place??

    Would it be that hard to make SATA an option on the install, along with the rest of the IDE controllers?

    I'm admittedly not as literate in kernel negotiation as I'd like to be (I'd sorta have to have a good install to work from in the first place, don't ya think?), but I'm sure I'm not the only one frustrated by the extra work ya have to do to get basic functionality to work.

    And thanks to the mod who modded my original post down. I guess it's easier to moderate questions down than to answer them. But then I guess that's par for the course in OSS tech support!

    Native support for SATA hard drives!

    I've been wanting to dual-boot for several months now, but the Linux installer (any distribution) does not recognize my SATA hard drive.

    For an OS that's supposed to be innovative and cutting edge, Linux is really dropping the ball on this one!

    Well a "return" is much different from an "exchange", so let's be sure we're talking about the same thing.

    I'd bet an exchange would go much more smoothly, but just try and get your money back on a return...

    Unfortunately a lot of stores won't accept opened CDs or DVDs; afterall, it's easy for someone to buy a CD or DVD, burn a copy of it, and then return it the next day claiming it was defective.

    It's a shitty policy, but this is a perfect example of how a few bad apples can ruin it for everyone.

    Mark my words! After SCO gets slapped around in court, Darl & Co. dumps their shares, SCO's stock price plummets, and stakeholders get all pissed off, this will end up one of the worst (and most publicized) corporate scams in recent memory.
