I thought I just read "Freedom of Expression snatched".
These atheletes have full right to discolose any non-sensitive information. How does it violate any contract? It hasn't happened before, so why now? Apart from that, newspapers almost tell the whole version themselves.
Talk about pictures, they don't carry a camera in all the events they participate in all the time. You could find more footage from those broadcasting streams to billions round the globe.
I thought I just visited slashdot after reading about story of Indian losses whole day yesterday, followed by comments from many atheletes, and journals and blogs of theirs too.
Does that make any sense? And now I read they weren't supposed to.
The very point about this is if it would deliver any benifit to the people. Using email, etc is fancy stuff for the villagers, but its neither powerful(yet) nor communicating because no relative of theirs have an online identity. Ooo, now all they require is Chatting, and they're destroyed, as has happened in semi-urban regions in India.
Just because you're getting seed prices and fertilizer news over a box, which makes rounds in 10 villages is not effective. You'd rather want the print media, which you can read for later.
"I want to work and make a name for myself. I want to see the world," she said, adding that she hopes to get a job in the city and then travel more widely. Just how do you consider that would happen. For this, you first require extensive theoritical in computers. Need to know how the information bounces all over the world, how 0&1 come together. And yes, you need to be associated with a comp for long time if you require any job related to it. For seeing the world, how is that possible with whole village breathing down your neck for their turn, and power backup of the PC ending?
It seems to be more of philosophical jump for the people of IIT, wanting to do good for their country. And why couldn't have they used laptops?
WTF is wrong with slashdot? Posting a cheap review of a mediocre phone on front page is foolish. Or does it have some hidden handshake with certain *uhmm* manufacturers.
The phone obviously reeks of average functionality, with a not-so-good camera, same ice-cream bar design, average features, etc. They haven't talked about its voice clarity, signal catching strength, enhancement software with camera, durability, software, and many other things. Am I supposed to read directly from the company's press release text?
This is insanity!
One obviosly hasn't tasted India

I am living in India's capital, New Delhi. And the condition of government departments here is stagnating. According to the official hours, you work from 10AM to 6PM. But the schedule goes something like this:
10AM - Crowd bundles up at the office 10:30 to 11:00AM - The staff arrives 11:00 to 12:30PM - Work! 12:30PM to 1:00PM - Closed for Lunch 1:00 to 1:15PM - Getting-all-the-gas-out break Then it is followed by some work, lots of bribery, lots of chatter with friends while the common man waits for his turn and so on...
On paper, its actually 40-45 hr weeks, but in reality its much less. And thats the situation in cities. In villages its worse than anything. No work for days, and that too only thru bribery. And OTOH, the private sector employee works his ass off till night to make himself and country proud (and also to pay off those heavy bribes). Sad and sic!
Just because something becomes far too omnipresent for the public now, it doesn't make sense that we decapitalize it. I can guess the "-" in email was always a source of little confusion and also took those extra milliseconds of your typing. But making Web web is nothing very intelligent.
Like that, we must decapitalize Microsoft bcoz 100s of millions of ppl use its OS (and many others use pirated versions). Or make Linus, linus, due to his sheer popularity.
SF has been the most interesting and most devoted reads of mine recently. I, just following the crowd got some ACC and Asmiov writings over mIRC, and was exhausted on seeing their imaginations. As mentioned in article, NASA sometimes used SF writers as consultants, I totally agree with that. These people carry a vision and have dreamt of workings and dangers in far far future.
But then, its all "imagination extrapolated". I don't actually presume most of this would come true, at least by the times mentioned in the books (acc to the article, scientists had been able to simulate Lobster's workings uptil now, which involved 14 neurons after abt 30 yrs of focussed research, and human's is 10^11 neurons). Singularity is a good suggestion, but do you think it's possible in next 30 yrs, with genocides and poverty in major parts of the planet??? And I find mind uploading foolish concept, no matter how geeky it is. Bcoz that means you are never responsible for anything.
Then why not portray human species come to an extinction, and nanomachines build their own highly adept machinic humanoids?
First would surely come Quake IV in little time. After that comes RTCW: reloaded.
After that I think Carmack and team have picked up the idea of some other genre. Because they have used Doom so so much that its originality would have been corroded by end of DoomIII phenomenon, hence no DoomIV expected by me.
I think they'll continue the Quake series tho, and alongside release other games, but in major partnerships with companies. But then would there be any changes in the id because of that??
eBay is really trying to squeeze itself into every possible market it can, which deals with basically buying/selling.
It has also bought of India's largest trade portal baazee. Lets keep an eye on its tale of acquisitions in 04.
PC gamers are waiting with hands on all their moolah to purchase all the gold that comes out when HL2, Halo2, Stalker, etc are released.
This might actually put the buyers of other consoles at confusion, since they might find they should also stay back for some time. Also, as handhelds are putting in more of gaming, people are choosing mainly between a mobile, a PS2, or PC.
It is actually impossible to keep two separate categories for the atheletic. To say "enhanced" would be like slapping the atheletes sayin "You're good, but they're of a different class. We appreciate your years of hardwork, but because of their mutation, they are more entertaining."
Just like you don't find a special "Drug Addict" soccer matches, you won't find it in olympics. And moreover, how'd you define enhanced? One whose leg is of titanium, or one who has had gene terapy, or one who is 50% cyborg or greater???
Its beginning to be seen that Linux is making waves all over now. First on Servers, then on PCs, then on mobiles/handhelds, and now as a base OS for a game.
I toally agree. I have never heard that Java is dying. It is still a part of almost all the professional computer courses. And the best thing about Java is that its simple to understand, hence you can have groups of people to code the same branch. I have never heard from someone that Java is dying. Simply bcoz its widespread.
Other than that, what else do you have for the purpose? Phython, sure is language of hackers, but its not that easy to grasp it as whole, plus the lack of teachers for language. Other than that, Perl, which I have never seen mentioned as part of any course. So what would be the use when the fresh people out from college don't know single thing abt the language. To code massive programs, you need something thats already widely accepted and practiced.
One could start introducing the "new" languages as an experiment in college, and after that when it takes more space, and is widely documented, companies can start adopting it in huge projects.
[lust]Oh yes, oh yes, search engine!! Strip me and search all of me...... oh these guys are sooooo hot. I think PB should put more articles like this. Next week they should do one on Linus. This is even better than all the nude pics combined.
[normal]Does it make any sense putting this interview in PB? You wouldn't want to learn how to put in a new proccy in your machine when you open the mag up for some steamy sexy stuff.
I wonder if IBM has any intentions of cutting their dedications to Outsourcing, if at all. It is just that their expansion is taking place, henceforth, they need new people on the job. This job offering means nothing if you're still going to put out majority of your work to India.
Other than that, it hasn't said "programmers" here, so you shouldn't expect sudden improvement over the ranting crowd of America because IBM would be employing lawyers, analysts, etc too.
The figures don't matter much to one when we look how much is the contribution of men/women towards social and technological upliftment. Its just that the interest of women differ from that of men's. You cannot say that just because there aren't many women graduates, its going to harm us.
If you work on this theory, you might also conclude men not taking up cookery courses, or stitching classes.
I sure would like to see more and more of OpenGL seeping into mainstream. It beats other specs by high margin, plus is very efficient. But the probs of integrity and stuff are keeping it behind the line. Make the package solid, get good reviews, and OpenGL would make a record sprint when you press fire...
...have installed SP2 on all their XP machines, and then ran it, longer than anyone has done since its release? If MS can go trouble-free for the past week on the PCs with SP2, then why are smaller (only slightly) companies like IBM feeling danger in insatlling it?
I'm sure IBM's business is run same as MS. Its not a hospital where great specialization is reqd in software and single error turns you in jail. If MS has released it after much confusion, I think it'd be good.
Well, Penguin really does raise fears in your mind. Because nobody would otherwise choose it. Just because it bit you in your childhood doesn't mean you make it your logo. If thats the thing, one should go on naming all the tools doctors used when they were small, or the stuff they used to enhance their sexual experience! Other than that, it might be some conspiracy to send subliminal messages to linux users. Penguin has lots of curves and shapes on body, you know.
Reverse Engg is absolutely nothing illegal. Its a part of hacking, not cracking.
Wikipedia quotes:
Reverse engineering (RE) is the process of taking something (a device, an electrical component, a software program, etc.) apart and analyzing its workings in detail, and after that to reconstruct a new device/program/etc. that does the same thing, without actually copying anything from the original. Reverse-engineering is commonly done to avoid copyrights on desired functionality, and may be used for avoiding patent law, though this is a bit risky: patents apply to the functionality, not a specific implementation of it.
Reverse-engineering things (like software) for the purposes of interoperability (i.e. supporting file formats etc.) is mostly believed to be legal, though patent owners often aggressively pursue their patents.
Isn't your breath supposed to be based on what all you've eaten recently? And there's no way to 100% verify that the breath really simulates a T-Rex. Only calculations of anatomy, and diet constituens.
Please give me a list of all those really interested in it. All receive free shelter in 3*3 cell.
I'm 16. I just scored with the hottest chick in my school. How the hell do i show/tell the amorous encounter to my friends all over the world??
Clearly, this is against free speech... Those adults have just made our world so cramped. I hit puberty, hormones raging, and i can't even announce that. Can there be anyway i can win war to stop my movie frm being distributed in public?

But here's the most expansive article i've read about him online. Really connecting and interesting: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.11/
ever tried playing scrabble of *only* technical words? Very interesting.
SLASHDOT = 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 12points
Now thats one of the lowest scoring words...

Venality and slackness would kill Indian dreams.

..a herbal plant's name. Clearly, from the first look i was thinking it was some biological article. "Meschube", what a small, funny name
