I hate to be nitpicky but that analogy doesn't work. The font size comparison is about legibility - irrelevant in the 30GB or 50GB debate. We are talking about a container which isn't the same thing. A better analogy would be comparing a 50 inch tv with a 30 inch tv... Who doesn't want a bigger screen?

More space, more content, it's as simple as that. They may cost a little more in the short term, but in the long run I think we'll benefit from having 20GB of extra content.

It makes sense, but it has no marketing value. People who stopped playing because they reached 60 will not come back for 5 (or 6 to make it an even number) more levels. That's just not enough of an incentive.

I'm betting that the new cap will be around 20-30 levels higher, with new instances added to scale the "end game" content with it. It's a huge undertaking for Blizzard either way, and it'll be very interesting to see how they do it.

You're absolutely right, and most people with a brain will agree with you.

But it's not the issue. The problem is that the studios that will spend $40 million producing a game will also spend millions to advertise it and put it in your face. How does an indie game, as wonderful as it may be, compete with the latest EA game as featured on MTV? (Did you catch the xbox 360 infomertial last night?)

As is the case in the movie world, distribution is everything. Marketing is everything. And unfortunately, when it comes to marketing, only one thing matters: the budget.

No budget, no voice; no voice, no sales. It's that simple.

So we'll see you again in 2008 for the official anouncement of Unreal Tournament 2010. Or something.

I wonder, if development takes longer than planned, will they just call it Unreal Tournament 2008? Means nothing anyway, right? Why not just name them like magazines: Unreal Tournament, vol 6, iss 1. Or perhaps like the video cards they could be bundled with: Unreal X850, or Unreal FX 6800 maybe? Whatever.

The lack of originality in so many modern games is equalled only by the dullness of their title. So depressing.

Finally, some sense in this thread.

They're basically just using the PODCASTING buzzword to be trendy and attract more peeps. Not to say that their project is bad, but it's unfortunate that they'll distort the meaning of podcasting for the sake of their marketing scheme.

The equally meaningless "open source radio" tag is bad enough.

Yes, that's what I meant. For viewing images, photos, or film: great, obviously. My concern was with text apps. With two such large screens and their high resolution, you're either going to be doing a lot of leaning forward (& sideways) to read the screens, or you're going to be squinting like George Costanza when he's spotting pennies on the sidewalk.

Either way, it's not very healthy or productive. The point is that I think there's a limit to how large a desktop area can be, over that threshold it becomes unpractical and highly inefficient. Just my own 2 cents.
