Duh. For every game I buy I'd have to buy 4 albums to spend an equal amount of money on music.
It's like saying that people spend more money on their house than on their car. It doesn't mean that they'll own more houses than cars in their lifetime, it just means that houses are more expensive.
Excerpt from the article adjusted for the real world:
Gamers spend more than $200 a year: $100 on blank media for console titles, $100 on blank media for PC games, and another $30 for labels, sharpies and cd sleeves.
A few more of those rallies and perhaps we can save cancer, aids, and maybe alzheimer's, too? If cast members show up for those too we can abduct them and get answers!
Amazing what people will do to get their tv fix, isn't it...
So you're comparing child pornography to "Moonrise over Hernandez"? Yikes. I'd say the subject matters are pretty damn different and obviously require different skills. I seriously doubt that those who put children through this kind of abuse worry about composition, light or colours.
And how about for archiving everything you have ever come across/created digitally on one single disc? I would LOVE to have that. Think of how tremendously convenient that would be.
its not like you can explain to a client that your page is the one that's complient and IE is wrong
Does the page break in IE 5? I can't check from this computer. If it does, it'll be much easier now, since we can show them that even Microsoft's own MSN.com no longer supports outdated browsers. If Microsoft does it, the people will follow.
I know they sell plenty of other mice with more features than the apple mouse... that's what makes the whole thing so absurd! Stark's museum mouse is cheaper than the apple mouse, and it has two buttons plus a scroll wheel! It doesn't make sense.
The apple mouse hasn't changed since it first came out, and the marketing was even worse back then: It was called the Apple PRO Mouse, and it could be yours for as little as $90. Yikes.
I'm a long time mac user, and I admire their software as much as their hardware, but the mouse stuff... it just drives me nuts.
Well I think the control key helps to prove his point... It's a "solution" to a problem they created by refusing to modernize their input devices. The fact that Apple implemented control-clicking shows that they were fully aware of their hardware limitations even while their software was evolving for two-button mice environments.
If the one-button mouse was truly the way to go from a design and interface standpoint, then control-clicking should never be required. Software should be engineered to be easily and COMPLETELY usable with a single button mouse. Now that would truly be "thinking different".
But the truth is that even OS X, Apple's primary software, was engineered to be used with a two-button mouse (or via control-clicks of course)... So their hardware contradicts their software, and coming from a company that presents itself as the leader in interface design and usability, I just find that mind-boggling.
Well I hope it's seen as an insigthful wake up call, a much needed slap in the face of all those who think that they can just keep twisting and bending the legal system to maintain their monopoly. Go NCSoft.
No, I agree. It's a sad attempt at making the whole thing seem cool, edgy, or dare I say... Artsy. Wow dude, look at that camera moving all over the place, it's like you're right there on the ship with them! Lame.
I am in a very similar situation. I have pretty much no formal training and I have completed 4 albums at 26... the last one entirely on my laptop. Not to say that I am exceptional, not at all... but simply that music composition has become very affordable and approachable. I'm tempted to say that you no longer even need to be tech-savvy, a good ear and a fair sense of harmony can be enough--things that can be aquired simply by having listened to music all your life, which most of us do.
Now, of course not everyone will pick that up, but the fact that the tools are relatively cheap and easy to use gives the same chance to almost everyone.
The warez scene might also be helping a lot with this--in the same way that it helped 12 year olds master Photoshop, it's now helping young musicians master tools like Reason (I first got a taste of Reason through a cracked 1.0 version, and ended up purchasing Reason 2.0).
Heh. I'd like to see a poll here to find out how many of us actually got started with pirated software. I wouldn't be surprised if it was most of us...
A-men. Mod parent up!
...South Korean Zergling Rush?
In Canada.
New game with taxes: approx. $80 Canadian. New cd before taxes: $15-$20. 20x4: 80!

Step 1: open Photoshop
Step 2: render -> lens flare
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!

I'm not sure if it's your reply or my cloning of the first post, but now my head hurts...
Let the cloning begin! ...

Well, perhaps it should be one of the upgrades on the apple store.
Customize your Apple Pro Mouse! Add a second button for just $399 US.
It would be right on par with their memory upgrades...
Yikes, I hope it's a BYOK (bring your own keyboard) type of deal.

Atmosphere is usually a direct result of good art direction.

Yes, but only the Italian version will have that feature.
Spelling! And I thought you were telling some sort of clever joke with e-o-an-ue-ed-au. No wonder I couldn't figure it out.
I am thoroughly disappointed.
Or maybe it's the thought that whatever step 2 entails, step 3 will never happen.
The first thing I thought of is the Centurion, from the roman military. The commander of a century, a century being a unit of 100 men...
What are the origins of the 5-steps-to-profit joke? It's brilliant and I've always wondered how it started.
Anyone?
