There's probably a reason why this happened actually. If you bought Windows 95 boxen from a vendor that had NetBIOS on by default (giving the PeeCees all the same NetBIOS name) they would all crash except one if they booted up on the same network.
I'm certain MS has fixed this bug in 10 years though;)
I've noticed the same thing, but I turned the distractions off, the little sounds, the popups, the notifications.
Some people can focus in a crowded busy lecture hall, some people can't even focus alone in their rooms.
People are as focussed as they want to be it seems, take this with a grain of salt, given that it's the middle of the work day, and i'm posting on slashdot.....;)
The reason it's most likely not in base yet, is because X.org has problems on other problems. The older version of X in the base system has been hacked up a great deal to really make sure it'll work on as many platforms as possible.
If it ain't broke....
The attitude seems to be that, if you want the newer features of X.org, it's not a problem to upgrade, otherwise, the older X is 'good enough'
FOSDEM is going to be a blast, I wish they would have posted interviews with more of the other speakers, like Marty Roesch who's doing the Snort talk, and the Gambas guy Benoit Minisini; or even some of the guys doing talks on the Linux kernel.
Unfortunately, there are going to be no BSD related talks, although I know the FreeBSD folks are going to have a booth, I think NetBSD and OpenBSD are showing up too (oh, and us MirBSD folks;))
Overall, it'll be a weekend well spent if you find yourself in Brussels that weekend;)
These accessories I'd think can be useful, but not *that* useful. I mean, what is the point of the 'Mac Mini skirt?'
I'm really trying not to troll here, but I think worthwhile accessories would be to the tune of, a dock type thing, that has a built-in USB pro-audio card that looks kind of like this "Mini Skirt."
The Mini is already stylish enough, and I think the only merit of the two latter products is stylistic, if they expanded the usefullness and capacities of the Mini, then i'm all for it;).
When big business realizes that Apple's offerings are not only very competitive, but very good quality wise, I think Apple will be the one that's waiting.
Apple had no enterprise customers really pre-Xserve, and then they showed up with it, and the Xserve RAID, it's just a matter of time until big business gets into the act.
Human destiny lies with the stars, simply because eventually the Planet Earth will no longer be able to support human life, soon then later at our current population and resource expenditure.
While this may be true, you have to wonder if it's a good thing to venture into other worlds now, I mean, look at our world.
Our main fuel source is a non-renewable, polluting one that won't last us into the next century. We still have billions of people living in utter poverty, and children aspire to be rock stars, and the likes.
I don't think our (american/european) culture is ready to venture into space and colonize, we need to start putting value on the right ideals. To where children aspire to be scientists, to where the best idea wins out, not the shiniest one, to where corporations and people in general terms aren't "out to make a buck."
I'd hate to see these ideals brought into space. Militarization of space? No thanks.
We could support many more billions of people on the planet if the right alternatives were taken to sustain life, and not just make money

Unless she turns out like my little sister, a working girl with drug/alcohol addictions.
:P
well aren't you just a bright ray of sunshine in the morning.....
*rolls eyes*
or enconding an MP3?
Why do you want to know?

I thought slashdotters were smarter than that.
;)
You must be new here
On-topic....hrmmm....
I for one welcome our new ever-evolving overlords..?

`cd /usr/pkgsrc/meta-pkgs/xorg; setenv X11_TYPE xorg; make install clean`
:)
It's been in pkgsrc for a while, and works fine
1) Turn off eye-candy
2) Profit?
Seriously, it's not that shabby once you turn off the eye-candy; it's not like OS X with Quartz (as in, does a lot of GPU offloading)
KDE can really be as fast or as slow as you want it to be....

Yes, actually.
;)
C'mon, this has been known for a while ;)
From the Office of Virginity, it's right down the hall next to 'Abuse', and across from 'Arguments'
Oh damn, I did it too.
You probably have an older, pre- El-Torito setup, which means, basically, boot off floppies to install things.
My old P-166 Toshiba can't boot from CDs, it's not too hard to install from Floppies
Wow, much respect, most people here won't admit that they run Windows, and have to use Cygwin to get their *nix fix :P
-2 Overuse of Sarcasm
Come on, cut them some slack, a even improving the little things is still helpful

For the sake of all our sanity, just install Debian :P
how do you know they haven't been spreading their own rumours... ;)
Now if the Telekom wasn't so worthless... ;)
Will this quota of 1/3 of public donations need to be held every year from now on? Or is this just to _acquire_ non-profit status.
;)
None the less, woohoo for the foundation, help make FreeBSD 6.0 even better

If you're going to do a hoax, do it well, do it geeky, and they will still love you. ;)
:P
Nice work Alek, I especially liked the part where you proved to the WSJ guy that it really was a hoax
...I mean, I'm sure I could back up my entire life to one of these things... ;)
;)
Seriously, imagine backing up every single thing you've ever heard, seen, or read. 40TB maybe?
w...t...f...

amazing what things the internet has to offer
