They are too stupid to realize that the very fact they can post like that and stay out of some camp is WAY more freedom than anyone in China or Vietnam currently enjoys.
What country are you from?
Here in the USA anyone with a job over the bare survival mode can fly if they really want to. Our local glider club is cheap and NOTHING but maybe sailing puts you in touch with nature like gliding. Plenty of room for geeks to write neat gliding Palm apps too.
When I worked at Aberdeen Proving Grounds they made transparent aluminum. This isn't as odd as it sounds, some jewels (ruby, saphire??) are aluminum compounds. The intended use was bullet-proof glass.
No one has ever doubted FORWARD "time travel". This isn't what most people mean by that. They are thinking of going back to WW II and shooting Hitler or shagging their great-grandmothers or something.
This true, but that is NOT how people think. So what if I am "richer" than almost anyone from the 19th Century. Where I live $100K/Year is bargain basement land. By most objective standards, even for the 1st World, I should feel "rich" but I sure can't seem to feel that way:(
FUD= Fear-Uncertainty-Doubt
There is NO doubt or uncertainty that BPL trashes HF comms of all kinds. This has been proven over and over and over. To make this comprehensible by the/. crowd, telling people that an enterprise wide rollout of Windows 3.11 would cause support issues is not FUD.
NO!
Well, technically it might work, but the cost-per-house would be HUGE. The only place this technology might make money is the same populated areas where DSL and Cable make money.
Totally agree!
My BMW has instant and average MPG readouts and I find myself trying to max out my economy. I have managed to get about 31 MPG on a highway trip and rarely go under 28. Not bad for a 6 cylinder 175 HP car:)
I have a BMW with both average and instant MPG displays. I find that ANY acceleration drops the instant MPG under 15. My conclusion is that hard acceleration with the throttle just under WOT (to keep the fuel injection out of open-loop rich mode) is best.
Because then I won't be able to eat it? If you eat meat you either kill or PAY SOMEONE ELSE to kill. Kind of like a Mafia Don saying he never has hurt a fly. True, but only because he has people to do all that for him.
When you try and do something like this two things happen. A large and ever expanding group of people discover they can basically do nothing all day and still get by. At this point the best and the brightest decide to move to another city/state/country and not support them. See the UK in the 1970s for an example.
There is a cultural issue here with perceptions of class. My father, who grew up very poor, wouldn't ride a train or a bus if you put a gun to his head. There is also georgraphy. In the USA only the Northeast Corridor supports profitable train service. You can ride around DC all day on the Metro, hop on Amtrack, and then ride around NYC all night on the subway. This all works preyy well and it is worth noting that most of Europe resembles this population density.
This is a real nice theory. Too bad I don't see any evidence of it actually working. The price of things that matter is going up fast. Housing, health care, and education are all getting more expensive at a rate far exceeding growth in wages. What exactly IS this mythical "new high value" industry we are all supposed to work in? What I see is only the very top of the job pyramid staying here. Sure it is nice for the very few who are at the very top of their field to make the big $$$, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE COUNTRY? Why do people always assume that the "outsourcers" will never be samrt enough to do THEIR job, just everyone else's?
Are we going to turn into a 3rd world shithole with everyone working McJobs and buying cheap made in China DVD players?
It IS a dumb idea, but all they need are TOURIST visas to come ashore for fun. Or not even that if no one sees their dinghy landing:)
BTW, why not put these people in Mexico?
I guess it is a good thing that Al Queda gave up on renting trucks ever since U-Haul ripped them off for their deposit on the 1st WTC bombing. Otherwise they might load up a truck with more TNT than an airplane could ever carry and just DRIVE to DC!
I do photo flights in the ADIZ all the time. It is a huge PITA and a huge waste of time. I call to get my transponder code before each flight and I could be ANYBODY. They don't seem to pay ANY attention to where I go as long as I stay clear of the Class B and the FRZ. Exactly what purpose does this serve besides making me fly around in circles for 20 minutes waiting for them to answer the fsking radio so I can get home again.
The Allies started WW II?
In what alternative universe did this happen?
The French hardly did any fighting AFTER the war started, let alone before it. If Germany had quit while she was ahead with Poland, Checkoslovakia, and Austria I am sure France and Britain would ahve kept hitting the snooze alarm and gone back to sleep.
Just to be a pain, flying cars have been around for a long time and have been regulated by the FAA and the DOT for that entire time. (See http://www.strangebirds.com/SB-WU-Aerocar.html)
IMHO the REAL downfall of a flying car is no one wants to beat up a very expensive aircraft driving it around on public roads.
I think the idea that there are any girls that need frequent sex with random strangers but were frustrated in this desire until Bluetooth is perfectly rational.
1999: I am a contractor visiting a gov't agency. "How do I get a job with you guys? Federal IT sucks, I need the big bucks"
2005: I am a Federal IT worker. Contractors ask me "How can I get a Fed job. Contractor IT work sucks, I need the big bucks"
I guess everything is relative. Where I live you would have to have a hell of a lot more than an old boat worth $1500 to look rich, even if you are 10 years old. Most junior programs have a fleet of boats for the kids to use for a minimal fee ($50-$100 per year). Racing a larger boat requires quite a few people. Anyone with some enthusiasm and willingness to learn can usually get a ride. Some of the "upper crust" pay some of their crew, but most boats rely entirely on volunteers. Most would be quite insulted to be called the "help". There is no requirement to be a club member to wander the dock and look for rides. Since club hospitality extends to the boat's entire crew I suspect most of the non-owners don't see the need to join themselves unless they want to join a club that maintains a fleet of boats for members to use.

Wasn't this the plot of Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Yeah - they shine a red and green laser on you! What a fsking waste of money!
